Common sense and practical experience, this sadly missed in the TV world! However this is why we love your weather briefings! Keep up the good work Mark!
Mark, thank you for always being the true professional that you are as the phrase goes at KCRA where the news comes first. Thank you for saying the weather comes first.
We are also currently experiencing La Niña weather effect, which brings drier and warmer conditions to many regions, particularly in the southern region of the US.
Thanks for the reporting! Your explanation is so helpful. I remember the Oakland Hills fire, and I used to live in Tuolumne county and I also remember the Rim Fire, and the Paradise Fire. Please continue to give us great weather reports, and air quality as well.❤
Thanks especially for this one Mark! When I talked about the new PDS warning, everyone thought it was a joke. Ridiculous acronym with a sobering reality.
PDS I have not heard of that term before. I'm always learning new things from the Mark, Finan and Weather Center. This may be the first season. I can remember it a long time when rain did not interrupt yard work. Bill
The creation of this ridiculous PDS acronym reminds me of the ROUSes from The Princess Bride. That acronym (for Rodents Of Unusual Size) was intentionally preposterous. This one isn’t. Of course Mark didn’t invent this, others did and he is just reporting it. I hope the people at the top of the weather reporting hierarchy realize how silly they sound, and how they are trivializing what should be a serious and significant warning. They need to come up with a suitably serious and not-at-all laughable way of describing a situation that is beyond the very reasonable-sounding red flag warning. And, Mark is the greatest. We miss watching him on KCRA but are grateful for his efforts here!
For the few of that are disappointed with Mark’s weather analysis and don’t like his use of descriptive terminology, go somewhere else that suits your tastes. You’re just wasting our bandwidth. You’re not forced to watch this channel.
Look up weather report in each area for last week and you'll find that the wind speeds were 0 - 7 mph or so (tops). Also, Pac Palisades wind was blowing S - SW and not north to have started the other fires.
I urge you to look at my post from 1/8. Go to the 3:44 mark and I go through a list of wind gusts. These will be the top wind gusts from the previous 12 hours. My point at the time was wind speeds were being badly reported. They were bad but not as bad as some reporters made it sound.
I think you weather people get off applying new names to the same situation. Atmospheric river for instance? It's called a storm, don't make it any scarier than what it is just for people to click on it. You disappoint more than anything.
Yes we get warnings similar to this every summer in Australia. We are use to it. Total fire Ban is one and and Extreme is another. Common sense really. Living in a high fire danger area, people should be aware of their warnings and use their phone apps.
I have been living on the planet, and in California for 72 years now, and there is one thing I can say with complete certainty... Everyone talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it. 🥸
As always, rational and informative without sensational glitz. Much appreciated!

PDS- news to me. Thanks Mark!
George Carlin would be proud of this new acronym...
Mark, thank you for always being the true professional that you are as the phrase goes at KCRA where the news comes first. Thank you for saying the weather comes first.
Always learn something new. Thank you for holding Weather Class, Mark🎉
Good morning thank you Mark
PDS...new one on me. Thanks, Mark...youre always here for us all.

Hi Mark Thanks for the great reporting ! Learned something new today Always love your reporting
PDS…, a particularly peculiar situation…, indeed.
Love your channel, and your particular way of educating us.
Thank you Mark.
Good morning Mark. thanks for another great and informative post. Thanks also for your updates about the national weather.
Thanks especially for this one Mark! When I talked about the new PDS warning, everyone thought it was a joke. Ridiculous acronym with a sobering reality.
Thanks Mark, hopefully before to long we will be talking about rain.
Thank you Mark! Great info!

Thanks for all the lingo lessons!
Thank you
Good Morning and Thank you Mr Mark 🙏
Much appreciated.

I only ever heard PDS with tornadoes!
Thank you.

May I add don't drag your towing safely chains!
The government has to make acronyms out of everything. I work with the military and they do the same thing. 😅

The PDS sounds like a double red flag 🚩 🚩 warning ⚠️
At least 5 different arsonists arrested, and likely plenty more got away.
magenta.
Red flag warning ... and it's "Pretty Damned Serious"

@@markfinanweather I like the way you think.
@@markfinanweather Speedy winds, can be a pain in the ass.
Well with an ever warming climate and now a new warning level PDS, can a next-level warning HFS, be far behind…
It's a lie that wind speeds were "45 - 70 mph" in all 6 regions last week.
Go look it up.
Look at my post from last week. I showed the list of top wind gusts. The reports of '100mph winds' were greatly exaggerated
(RRR) Ridiculous Resilient Ridge 2025
I am not a fan of that term
@markfinanweather Thanks Mark 😄. It sure looks like it looking at the models. Have a nice day.

Why not?

Couldn't agree more . Whether fear , certainly in my opinion, these news and weather are mouthpieces just repeating what they're being told to repeat.
@@Jeff-uf3cv Mark is retired, he doesn't have to do that. This is his gig.
@andreacalkins5189 they all are talking heads following a script

One question Mark, does La Nina factor into the winds we are seeing in SOCAL? And lack of rain......Thanks for another excellent forecast.
