  • ▶︎ This is still a great audio interface, BUT check out the updated RODE AI-Micro version:
    • Record ANY Two Mics In...
    Easily record two separate (discrete) audio tracks into an iPhone with the RODE SC6-L - and also monitor your sound with headphones too. This is a great accessory for anyone wanting to record multiple mics into one device and it works with lots of apps including FiLMiC Pro.
    PLEASE NOTE... By default the RODE SC6-L is in "combined" track mode, not "separate". All you need to do is use the RODE Reporter app (it's free) to change this setting of the SC6-L. Just plug it into your iPhone and open the Reporter app and go to settings to change it (then it will stay in that mode). I did this a while ago and always leave the SC6-L in the separate track mode, so I forgot to mention it. :)

      Also, it's possible to configure the Rode SC6 audio input levels with the Reporter app with the "Low/Medium/High" input level presets (which isn't possible elsewhere). And turn direct monitor on/off (monitoring with or without latency), and the monitor level.

    Do you need the rode one? Can’t you just use a headphone splitter? Also does this work with the normal iPhone camera, not FilmicPro?
    Third question, if you have a single mic on one side, and the wireless go 2 on the other side (with two transmitters) can you have 3 tracks? Or even more if you get more wireless rode mics?

      It is app dependent and not all will work. I’ve only used Filmic Pro and the Rode app I need to test more, but Rode says it will work with the native camera app, GarageBand and Voice Memos, too.

      If you have the Wireless Go II you can connect it the same way as the Wireless Go via a 3.5mm TRS to TRRS to the SC6-L - and then use with other mics. Or if you want to use both Go II mics you can simply use their SC15 cable and the receiver and send dual channel audio to the iPhone.

      To get split track audio into the iPhone you can’t use just a standard cable setup with it. You have to use the SC15 adapter cable otherwise it’ll be a mono mix. Using the SC6-L will do split track but with two mics or mic systems. Using one Rode Wireless Go II would only go into the single channel. You have to use two systems to do that which is not really practical. Hope that makes sense.

    Could I buy two pairs of RODE Wireless Go II and use this to effectively get the audio from 4 transmitters sent to my iPhone?
    In other words, can I connect this device to two Wireless Go II Receivers?

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  3 роки тому +2

      Yes technically you could using Lightning to 3.5mm adapters. So then one set of mics would be on channel 1 (mono mix) and the second set would be on channel 2 (mono mix). So you could have discrete mic “groups” (each set of two mics) but not discrete tracks from all 4 mics. Haven’t tried this myself, but again it should work.

    When the file is exported its still a mono audio file. Is there a way to export it from filmic pro with dual audio files? So when you detach the audio in IMOVIE or other editing software you have two audio tracks to edit in post instead of one mixed mono stereo track?

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  4 місяці тому

      Not sure I follow. If you record it split track and you have two audio sources then it would be left and right. Or if you just recorded one source/mic it would just be on one channel. And then so you would have access to either in post as long as you didn’t record two channels mixed together.

    Is the standard iMovie built into the phone or that comes standard with a macbook capable of recognizing the two different audio channels? Or do you need a more sophisticated program, like Final Cut to recognize that split channel audio for video editing.
    I recorded my initial audio with two rode wireless go ii in the native video app on an iphone 12 mini for a test. In my camera roll, iMovie on my phone, and iMovie on my computer it was stereo, not one source coming out of left and the other coming out of right. Hence why i asked if I need a better editing software system that can handle the two split channels.
    Looking forward to hearing your thoughts as they would be greatly appreciated.

      I actually don’t know. I’m not an iMovie user, but iMovie on Mac should be able to do split track audio. You could also try using LumaFusion on your phone or iPad. It’s possible though it was recorded as a mono mix instead of split track (essentially it should be recorded in stereo, meaning discrete tracks).

    This Røde 2 mics adaptator needs to have a secondary Lightning port to be able to power the iPhone while recording. Pretty sure the iPhone battery alone is not enough to last for filming and recording more than an hour or two, depending on the version. Did you test it?

    • @iphoneographers
