love that line: "it's not about being realistic, it's about making it believable" - you sir inspire me.
That phrase is not from him, in fact, that's what Walt Disney told to his workers when he was alive. :)
That would be difficult for him to say that after he died really... :P
lol
He isn't dead
That phrase belongs to no one. Yes Disney said it but what if Dinsey heard someone say that phrase before he even said it. Anyone could say that phrase and that doesn't mean they are copying it from someone else. No phrase belongs to no one. Anybody in history could of said it before and believe me they have. Disney taking tooooo much credit.
I always wanted to animate, but never liked digital art that became so popular in my generation. Now, I am not insulting digital artists, but it just isn't for me. But lately I have been practicing more traditional animation (like 30 seconds to 1 minute scenes) and I am starting to actually like what I draw. Anyway, just wanted to say thank you for the inspiration.
fraya1022 oh wow, keep trying. Never give up. I have a dream too
I feel the same way, I have always loved traditional animation
you're like me in that sense. i'm okay with digital animation, but it's just not for me imo
@@furryexterminator9600 what do you mean? flash animation or "puppet" animation? sure i agree, i looks like a cardboard cut out moving the joints only, but digital animation drawn frame by frame looks as smooth as the one on paper
DUDE SAME- i never got into digital art cause it just didn't feel as real as drawing on real...paper!
That is what you call a Master.
ProperSauce more like a grandmaster!

The way you flip those pages ,alone, shows the years of experience behind it. This is basic animation technique, but you go beyond the basics and show real emotions through this 4 second shot. Simply amazing.
I will not lie I laughed out loud when you said "Prismacolors don't erase well, so, I've just learned to kind of, not erase anything". Felt that with my soul, I live to use Prismacolor pencils and I definitely ignore most all of the erasing process now lol
I have so much respect for people who do traditional animation. Animation itself is already a ton of work, but TRADITIONAL animation is just insane. I don't have the same kind of patience, so I'll be sticking with (hand drawn) Flash animation for now.
Daptor animation is animation. In fact, traditional animation is way easier.
+Atitus Evans how come
It's way more expensive to buy a tablet, and the tablets are kinda hard to get used too, drawing traditional is way easier as you can go ahead and put your skills to work.
But it looks better, so it's worth it
Atitus Evans You can get a super simple Wacom tablet for like $70 - $80
I can remember a high-school friend of mine and myself would do animation as a time passer. We'd hook up usually on Friday evenings. He was exceptionally talented at drawing, and animation. Where I am more of a cartoonist. Between his work and mine, the sky was the limit.
Great job here to this master of animation. Thank-you for sharing your skills.
The sound of the paper is SO satisfying! Love this video.
Elyasaf Aloni true
Just watching you flip the pages so easily gave me shivers. I hope to be as great as you someday Aaron, thank you for the inspiration!
ढ
I want to learn how to do this!!!! Ever since I was a kid traditional animation has inspired, I want to make this my career. Ill try my best.
Good luck!! Don't stop!
I wish you the best my friend
I too have the same dream..hold onto that...you can do it.
read books :") push your limits
you need to run in the right direction to succeed
The traditional animation has always been my favourite, for many reasons. One of them being that you can feel how much hard work was put into each frame, each little movement, and the fact that the animator needed to draw the same thing over and over and over again to make it move smoothly. Nowadays, with the help of computers, lots of these things have lost their touch--CGI and computer generated things are hard work, sure, but it's much more simple now because of rigging.
you're right, often times i watched ghibli movies along with friends and usually they are kind of boring to watch animated cartoons as i noticed that i keep remembering them how that shit that seem so childish if a fucking hard work! that one seconds is about 30 frames, this means that one second could have 30 fucking draw man and some movies could last even 2 hours make ur counts!
holy shit. those paper-handling skills. wow
This guy explains it step by step and I still find it impossible to comprehend. Closest thing to a magic for sure.
"Repeat that about 100 more times and you've got a scene *Laughs*"The fact that he laughed makes hime 100 times stronger than me
Man, am I the only one who appreciates all types of animation instead of saying one's true animation?
EDIT:"Am I the only one.." Oh dear god that beginning, of course I'm not the only one!
I love all types of animation too. Sure there is one that started it all but that doesn't mean there is only one true one, I agree with you.
Credin no
Nope. I too love all types of animation no matter what the medium is. As long as it tells a good story through the medium. :)
I really hate people comparing two different mediums used for visual storytelling...like jeez
Exactly. The story is what's important. It's why Disney has certain periods of movies that are more popular than others despite using the same medium. It's why Pixar is more successful than DreamWorks despite both studios using the same medium.
@@ssffe529 It's like comparing dubstep to rock..
the paper cuts
Ouch
Haha yeah
rest in peace
Ooooww
Traditional animation is so inspiring for me.Just seing people making animation on paper really makes me want to animate!
Watching the classic style in action is inspirational. Keep putting out more of this type of stuff.
I'm so happy to find this. I'm left-handed and none of my animation friends could show me how to flip the paper properly. This is great thank you.
This video is a serious page-turner.
Nobody:
Traditional animators who have to draw 15 frames a day to make any progress: *I aM SpEed*
Art isn’t about speed it’s about taking time !continue with your cheap ass animation it barely moves
@@nightisright1873 why so rude?
@@nightisright1873 wow your very nice >:(
This makes me admire Japanese animators way more...
thank you Aaron Blaise, for showing how awesome the art of hand drawn animation is. please make more videos similar to this.
The sound of the paper still gives me chills! More!
You, sir, are an inspiration! Thank you so much for sharing with us. Beautiful, subtle work. Brilliant!
Incredible talent. Much respect.
This is so satisfying to watch! I can feel your joy in being in your element. Thanks for your videos 🙏
This is really what I want to study more on and I enjoy this alot. Animation is fun and it intrigues me.
Back in the days lol
Same here
Thanks Aaron. I love watching you draw. by just watching, i have improved a lot.
Yes! This is such a special video. Old school animation at its best. Thanks Aaron! More please!! 👌
Beautiful craftsmanship!
You're making it seem easy, but that smoothness we're seeing is the product of years of experience. Traditional animation is a very laborious art!
it's always the old people that warm my heart the most, watching this made me happy!! thankyouu soo muchhh!!!
Learning from the best ! Great tutorial !
Is it just me or is it satisfying to see him flip through the pages really quick then draw

I love how you're doing more live art! I'm really excited to see more
Your work is amazing!!!! also the paper noise is so satisfying to me😂
NANI LEFT HANDED DRAWING AAAAAHHH
This... This is...
THIS IS THE FASTEST PAGE FLIPPER I HAVE EVER LAID MY EYES UPON!
That was just amazing, you've gotta do more of thus stuff!!
BTW - I love these real time animation demos you post. Thank you :-)
that was great, traditional animations are so beautiful
I would like to see more videos like this
holy crap!!! that's amazing!
Thanks for demonstrating the hand craft of animation, that is where the "magic" is!
The work your doing is so important, it swims against the tide of 3D animation, nothing against 3D but the magic starts in the hand drawn stuff. Excellent.
This is seriously one of the more inspiring videos I've seen, I can't wait to do some hand drawn animations. I never even considered that it would be something I could do
Thank you for sharing this. I'm so in love with hand drawn animation. I'd like to do it for a living someday, and these recent videos of yours are so inspiring. Can't wait to see more!
This was an amazing experience for me. Seeing another left handed artist and animator is thrilling and awesome. Finally my right hand will be useful for something while I'm drawing and animating with my left hand.
I could watch this guy work all day. Fascinating!
I have been a Disney animation fan for more than 50 years, and am absolutely DELIGHTED in having found your channel to watch this process, which is AMAZING!! As a construction professional, I was very fortunate to have done a few projects with the Imagineers in WDW FL, and loved being around the art directors and other creative folks. It is inspiring!!
I study animation at university both traditional and computer created. Whenever I see traditional animation come to life it puts SUCH a huge smile on my face! It's like bringing life and vibrancy to a character. It's literally like it has come to life and it's so magical!
Worth noting, this is only the first part of the process, now every frame needs to be inked on cel, painted, background added. Sooo much work
Its sooo great to see you drawing. Can do it whole day ^^
this was beautiful and I enjoyed it immensely!
That was so satisfying to watch...
*ah yes the old way to make animation.. I love it!*
Incredibly awesome!
This was great Aaron! I really enjoyed the Demo and hope to see more videos of traditional animation in the future. The commentary helps me keep things in mind while I animate.
Great as always!
I cant put in words how I love your work! I feel honored to be able to see this masterpiece.
I have such respect for animators!!
That was a real pleasure to watch!
Pure eye candy!
This is fascinating. Thanks for sharing.
Watching you animate offers instant stress relief.
I'm majoring in visualization to become an animator and watching your videos keeps me encouraged and excited for the future! Thank you for sharing :)
This is so helpful! I use frames like this method to practice emotions and “in between” poses, since I struggle with things looking too stiff. This definitely helps me!
you are awesome dude, seriously, total inspiration
Sir, I already saw couple of your videos here and I can tell that this one shows your absolute passion about animation. Other svideos are great but this one... you're light up and driven, it can be seen that this technique is something you just simply love. Amazing to watch! Thank you for all the movies you've made that was part of my childhood. Im 35 and I still watch cartoons and animations. Never enough! :)
Who needs Disney when you should open your own studio, be like the American version of Studio Ghibli..
you know, he tried. It closed after 2 years due to money issues.
I love seeing the traditional method in action. Im dabbling a bit with animation in digital but I come from a background of pencil to paper. Working in ink has helpeda great deal too. You really have to visualize where you want to end up. Your method of not erasing is awesome!! Trying to use more of that in my sketching.
Wow, i love your work, you did a great job sir
20 years ago all I wanted to be was an animator for Disney, and for the first five of those years, I was told by art teachers and professionals that I shouldn't. When I graduated high school, I was told the same thing by a person I had high respect in an art school I attended. Like a young kid, I believed them. Now I'm almost 40 and I sit here watching this and thinking back on how dumb I was to listen to them. I don't care if I'm 60 years old, I'm not giving up. I may not be an animator for Disney, but eventually I will be one. Don't speak about ageism because that is a lie. Talent, is talent. Skill is skill, and I have more patience than a glacier. I want to thank you Mr. Blaise for this video. Had I not stumbled upon this all these years later, I'd still be stuck in a rut wondering if I made the right career choice.
I never knew this channel ever existed. After I seen more of your content, I was blown away! I hope to see your next upcoming project soon. Also, thank you for this video!
Wow this is so cool!
Hopefully Disney brings traditional animation back because the computer animated just looks like the same boring movie...over...and over again. Great video!!!
Thank you for summarising what the animation industry has turned into since CGI animators ruined it! My thoughts exactly!
I agree, there's something about 2D animation that just touches me. This is why I loved the movie Secret of Kells, a perfect example of how touching 2D animation is.
The only way that's going to happen is if another handdrawn animated film from a non-Disney animated studio makes a splash. But it will not by any means be easy.
Based on the way things are going at Disney it seems unlikely that it'll even happen, period, but on the other hand, trends do come and go, and nobody can say for sure if Disney will never do handdrawn animation anymore than they can. We aren't prognosticators.
That said, I too wish for a return to handdrawn animation, but it will be an uphill battle. Luckily there are veteran Disney animators working on projects independently who are fighting back. I suggest checking out DAWG TOWN, HULLABALOO, and even DRAGON'S LAIR: THE MOVIE, as well as KLAUS. Should any of these do well, we might see a demand for handdrawn animation, but I don't wanna give false hope.
Bruce Hansen My comment pertains to Disney alone as they closed down their traditional animation studio in 2013. I'm TMS guy but it just pains me to see the studio that set the animation standard completely give up on the craft they perfected back in the golden age.
Bruce Hansen I should be asking the exact opposite of that question, why is anime the next biggest thing? I feel like Disney now is a forgotten art and a generation of new prefers this half FPS animated fast food crap. Anime is the fast food of the animation industry. People never praise what we americans did for our animation and always trash and push us no matter how hard we try, ever heard of Disney's Nine Old Men? They were legends! But no, apparently an animation industry that animates at 12 frames per second is better than a well crafted 30 frames per second movie (sarcasm).
If it weren't for disney, or fleischer studios, your so loved "anime" wouldn't have existed...
Awesome video. Gets me inspired to animate
My brother is drawing an animation for his class. Watching this video is a big help in understanding the process. Thank you!
Thank you for this video, I'm learning about animation at university and we're starting out with the old methods which a lot of us are anxious to start. This video was so useful to me.
amazing work ! I love your videos they're super inspiring
LOVED THIS!
Thanks a Lot for this Lesson Master !
You and your work is like stars that shine trough my spirit! Love to watch more live stream! ^^ Keep it up!
This was amazing!! Thank you so much for the demo! :D
He makes it look so easy
amazing cant wait to start my computer animation courses, u r so inspiring thank you
traditional animators are so badass he flips those pages like a wizard
This is one of the most _incredible_ presentations of the 2D Traditional Animation Technique with Light Table in the entire Web so far; it combines the qualities of Cartoon Drawing, Gesture Drawing, Animation Drawing (conceiving Animation), along with didactic and inspiring focus/concentration in the Flow of things regarding the artwork of Animating in general. ¡Thanks for this brilliant content!
Thanks for such an enjoyable video of your work.
dang this guys an inspiration. for such a long tedious process you can see how efficiently he works through this scene beautifully on his first try.
Just great! I've seen this before but now I'm subscribing!
