Knowing he’s worked at this desk for decades and continues to use it makes how he still gets excited talking about it even more enchanting ✨ thanks for sharing!!
For some reason I got a little emotional seeing that little lion carving on the table, knowing you made it the day you got onto the Lion King, my most cherished Disney movie of all time. I was just a baby the day you made it, and that's crazy how time flies. I do miss 2D animation so much on big movies.
That is a very well-thought-out desk for an animator or even for someone who simply likes to draw. I don't have such a set-up, though; I live in a small apartment and keep my art supplies in a few art bins, paper boxes, and a fishing tackle box.
Something you might consider keeping an eye open for are old writing desks. They're built for small spaces, the lid double-acts as a working surface, and some desks have wooden slots that slide out to reinforce it. When not in use, the lid flips up and the slots slide inside the desk, making room. Some writing desks have drawers or cubbies for storing supplies, stationary, tools, etc. They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and styles, and the prices go all over the place. Mine was bought from an elderly woman's estate sale, she wanted 200 for it, but hearing about what I did, she knocked it down to 120. It fits well in my apartment, and may not be as well-built as a Disney Studio desk, but I'm proud for what I can do on mine. "Every desk has it's own magic" I now say.
I shouldn't be surprised at this point but that lion in the corner is making my eyes pop. Whoa! Love the design of the desk. I wouldn't get anything done because I'd be too busy playing with it.
I still have mine as well (same as yours, obviously), though it's not as tidy! A friend here in Orlando is looking to sell his layout desk (same as ours, but wider). He wasn't with the studio; just bought it when it closed down.
@@AaronBlaiseArt hey Aaron- just spoke with him, and he's reconsidered. But you'll definitely be the first to know if he changes his mind! (This is Jen O; I'm off social media, but I can get your contact info through Merritt, or vice versa)!
This is very inspirational! I have an old drafting table I've had for years, and it's starting to show some wear and tear! BUT seeing this, I think I can revive it into an animation desk! Thank you! ;)
Years ago I was doing character layout on the show King of the Hill and a friend of mine had one of these built for her husband, her house became a destination for coworkers to come and drool all over it. It really made the rigs we were working on feel woefully inadequate.
Aaron thank you for sharing, it's amazing to learn a little on how those wonderful films where made. That desk impress me and what you create using it is real magic. Best Regards from Chile!
That desk is so cool! You posted this the day I was actually at down town disny and I was watching some one draw on one of those amazing desks! Really wish I could buy one
Love all the stories! It's an amazing desk tour, thank you. Also the clip for the exposure sheets would be useful for clipping on reference for drawings too
This was amazing to see! Thank you for showing us, everything just mind blowing to me. :D Especially you had that desk since you worked on those films! And shots of how time was. Amazing thing to see. ^ ^ You are such inspiration to me Aaron, I love your work. I hope some day ( maybe one day) I'd love to collab with you in the future once I get really good in animation.
Thanks for the tour. I love the drawers whithin a drawer. Now I really regret not purchasing my Fox Animation Studios desk when the Phoenix studio closed. :( Cheers!
Love this episode! Thanks so much for sharing. It was always a dream of mine to buy one of these if they came up for sale or something. Great work station 👍🏾 So interesting. I wonder was a CG Animator version of this would be 🤩
"Why are your courses so inexpensive?" I'm guessing that he's already wealthy and happy and he simply enjoys sharing his vast amount of knowledge at a very affordable price.
Firstly, I was “today years old” when I discovered that YOU are at least 80% to “blame” for my current dog’s name (Rajah) 😅❤ Aladdin was one of my top 5 Disney animated all-time faves, and Rajah was just so adorable to me. And I loved his relationship with Jasmine! Although my dog’s a female, most people assume she’s a male dog because she’s a stocky, muscular pitbull. So thank you for giving me a character to love so much I named my dog after him! And secondly, the real reason for my comment… did Disney actually hire “fake” animators (AKA artists who were non-Disney-movie animators) specifically as showroom animators for Disney World tours? I saw a handful of UA-camrs claiming this, but can’t find a legitimate source, so I’m apt to think it’s a rumor that some people believed. Snopes didn’t address it, and they’re my go-to. But in a Google search, I found your channel. Thought you’d be able to give me the truth!
I’ve seen that float around too. I can say 100% FALSE - It’s based on something said in a video taken out of context. I’ll probably do a reaction video soon. I went through the Disney Internship and was trained by Glen Keane BEFORE The FL studio even opened. The Bancroft Bros. also interned with me and were Cal-Arts Animation graduates. All of us started at the FL studio on Day 1 and we were always there to animate as was always the plan. They certainly didn’t move Mark Hehn to FL to pretend to animate 😅 Originally, we were just going to do shorts. Such as the Roger Rabbits ones we did “Trail Mix-Up” and “Roller Coaster Rabbit” the do some new Mickey, Donald & Goofy stuff. Once the California studio got behind we were quickly pulled in and never went back to shorts. We had a hand in every film from Rescuers Down Under onward and the films: Mulan, Lilo & Stitch and Brother Bear were all FL lead Productions. Also, thank you for the kind words and happy to hear about your Dog!
Animator here. The paper, depending on studios, use many kind of grades or thickness, but back then they’re cut by either into 12 field (12" in length) for TV shows or 16 field for Film. Some go as 24 field in size. They’re specifically ordered from paper companies to that certain size. The Peg holes are punched in the studio by these mechanical hole puncher machines (though you can buy pre-punched animation paper in certain Art supply stores and also some cheap portable animation hole puncher. You can use them on ordinary bond or letter paper) I’ve also worked in Japanese Studios back in the days. Their paper tend to smaller and much square (10 field) and they prefer to having them in the Top peg orientation than usual Bottom peg orientation of Western studios.
8:04 I’m trying to find one of these hydraulic mechanisms so I may have a shot at building my own animation desk, since buying one is next to impossible.
@ Unfortunately, no. Disney maybe open about how they get their animation to look good, but they’re really greedy when it comes to how their equipment is made.
Hi, Aaron. What are the dimensions of the drawing panel the size of those drawers? Plus how tall is the unit? Been looking to build one but I am not allowed to take a tape measure to Disneyland and have the artists measure the ones there in the gallery. Maybe you can help me? Tnx
I would never work in animation or in disneyland. I would feel like I had Walt looking over my shoulder every minute. It would be too haunting and too overwhelming. I wouldnt want to be CEO either. Then you would literally be walking in Walt's footsteps........No Thank You!

I always adored animators and animations
I grew up with hand drawn animation and I wish every single studio would go back to 2d animation just like the old days
A few would be Renegade Animation & Tonic DNA.

Wow very neat I can't wait

How did you get your desk from Disney? Did they give you an option to buy it when they closed up shop? Or was this you own home studio desk?
I also wanted to know how he take the desk with him when he left. Is it by purchase or some kind a special gift
Coolness, drawers within drawers is a great thing there, can't wait for more Snow Bear, be blessed, saved all in Jesus shalom

I know you share the app I bought but do you teach people animation art in person?

In this modern tech, you still use a traditional art woth paper instead use digital art? Can you tell me why?

Anybody know where you could buy an art desk with similar design? Somebody online who makes this kind of elaborate furniture?
Do you happen to know wo designed/built this?😊
