I think it's just you. He's been treated much better in the last 10-15 yrs than he ever had in the classic era. Sonic 4 Ep 2 was basically the Metal Sonic show.

As a _Sonic CD_ fan, I’m pretty tickled that so much of “make it Metal Sonic themed” translated to “make it _Sonic CD_ themed.” From the super-speed, level end, Special Stage and final Eggman boss themes being directly lifted from _CD,_ to the Special Stages having the same backgrounds as the _CD_ ones, to the Emeralds being the Time Stones now, it’s a marvelous tribute to Metal’s own classic beginnings and I appreciate it greatly 😁 Fantastic to see Metal Knux’s sprites almost done as well, he’s great and it’s great to see him get this much love. Team Metal ftw 💙

Metal should be the ultimate speed run char, no drowning and just a faster version of sonic that can run through enemies, he should have the fire shields attack as a default ability and able to break knuckle walls and go anywhere.
Imma be honest, I don't really enjoy when people showcase a Sonic mania mod and they drop dash or spindash aloe because you can't really see other animations, but this video is cool
Why don’t you ask tails about that? Because like Tails, he prob gets tired after a while. And with a plane, its also easier to fly both tails and sonic, and faster too.
