We tested Panasonic VX981 and Sony ZV-E10 in our podcast studio (3 simple led lights with softboxes + grid, about 280 - 300 lux on subject) must say both have similar video quality in 4K full auto mode (sony slightly better with better out of the box colors Panasonic need color correction in post, but Panasonic better video quality in FHD), but we stay with Sony only to have blurred background. At this time in our studio Sony did not overheat after 2h but it will be nice to have power over USB rather than buying dummy battery but on the other hand ZV-E10 works as webcam out of the box, Panasonic require HDMI capture card. ZV-E10 can handle bigger SD card in spec up to 1 TB Panasonic only 128 GB - it could be limitation in long recording

Isn't it something how the HD on the Sony mirrorless cameras is so poor? I was talking to a friend about that a few weeks ago. It really annoys the hell out of me because I don't want to be forced to use 4k for everything, but with my Sonys, 4k is the only way I shoot anymore.

@@MichaelWTurner same here, I prefer to record in fullHD, I think they cut price by not paying licence for better HD compression algorytm or something, most creators want 4K anyway.

Well Done. Does the Panasonic VX981 has a clean HDMI out?

What's your opinion which one is better you think when it comes down to recording videos

Guess it depends. I grab the panasonic camcorder for family stuff. It's great for that. I personally don't love the image that the cx405 produces. I use the zv-e10 for YT videos and product reviews. If I could only have 1 out of the 3, it would probably be the e10

What about the hc-x1500 I know it’s above the price range of the ax53 and hc-v870k but it does offer manual controls. Only downside is it’s smaller sensor

It has manual controls, and it has better video codecs. It offers 10-bit 4k 4:2:2 if I'm not mistaken. It is also sharper than wxf991 which means it is probably sharper than the vx890 too. Still suffers the same in low light, but at the wide end the lens has a larger aperture. I believe it was f1.8. It's a really good camera when things are well lit

ZV-E10 looks better but Panasonic have more plesent AF and it's less expensive. What is dealbreaker for me with this camcoders is no control over ISO. Shot with green figure at 0:58 and 5:51 is great example. In Panasonic background is more visible, camera try to bump ISO to cover all elements and there is a lot of grain because of that. This is wanted feature I think it's for home video better to see more in grain than not see what you try to film. Sony in other hand just stay with lo ISO and background is almoust black but without grain. I preffer to have black background without grain afterall.

I agree. The panasonic is in the upper price range for consumer camcorders. It would be nice if the manufacturers would allow for more manual control in higher priced models. It's the same issue in the Sony ax53. It's pricey, but no manual control.

With the Sony you using a better lense shudov have the original lense on it to make it fare .I think the Panasonic 981 was better why because with the original lense it looks still as sharp as the Sony with that's expensive lense.so yes Panasonic wins

Interesting point, but I agree and disagree because the advantage of an interchangeable lens camera is that you can increase the quality by using a high-quality lens. Why should I limit myself to a lens that isn't great in lower light environments if I can use a better suited one?
