- Just a short video today because I'm planning on some big walks in the next few days to take advantage of the upcoming good weather.
You don't wake up in the morning wanting to make a video about air defense systems, but sometimes that's just how the day progresses. Today I bring up an often-told story about the only structure in Washington DC to come under fire during World War II. We also spin outside the Beltway to get a look at some of the current air defense systems protecting the National Capital Region. I also got some lunch.

Something got my attention last Wednesday 17 Feb.morning and today Monday 22 Feb. 2021 both at approx 8:15 am.
The sound of military aircraft flying over head.
""So what's so attention grabbing about that?"" you ask.
Well I live just about 5 miles from the Richmond Virginia International Airport and am very accustomed to hearing outgoing and incoming passenger planes + jumbo-jets all day long.
They are exceptionally loud as they fly directly over your apartment or house!
Just as a passenger airplane or jumbo jet sounds different than a prop plane, a fighter jet sounds VERY DISTINCT!
Well both days from about 8am to 4pm the sound of fighter jets flew over head, North East bound every 4 to 5 minutes!
In my mind's eye I could see them line-ing up on a navy carrier, being waved into position for take-off
On Wednesday for the first hour or so I shrugged it off as an overactive imagination... nothing to get excited about....but then I became acutely aware that a distinct pattern had developed.
Normal passenger planes emit the sounds of the engines either ACCELERATING on take-off or DE-CELERATING upon decent approach.
All the sounds were of extremely FAST ACCELERATING JETS at much higher altitude than the ones leaving and landing at RICHMOND VIRGINIA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.
My conclusion was a ""a military training exercise"" coming out of NORFOLK VIRGINIA.
Or maybe it was something more compelling, more sinister, IDK.
Fighters out of Oceana NAS Va Beach, Va. Training missions. My house is basically just past the end of the flight line. This happens all day every day.
We see them hauling azz here in the OBX too
Lots of helicopters over my house tonight. 14 miles south of DC. Hear them in early hrs of morning 130 am last week. Not business as usual.

During a family trip to DC several years ago we actually stood there on the spot that was dedicated on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Great vid. Thank you for your time to do this.
Why are the monuments so filthy? The Park Service doesn't have pressure washers. It is a disgrace to have those monuments looking so dirty and neglected.

Pressure washers do a lot of damage.
I went to DC 2 years ago, before I got there I thought it would be pristine, I was wrong, it's really dumpy. Poor Trump was living in the ghetto

Fun fact: The Japanese sent high altitude balloons to the west coast with incendiary devices and also armed with fleas contaminated with bubonic plague. They developed biological weapons and delivery systems for them in occupied Manchuria.

The 10-meter (33 ft) diameter balloons were inflated with hydrogen and typically carried one 15 kilograms (33 lb) bomb, or one 12 kilograms (26 lb) bomb along with four 5 kilograms (11 lb) bombs.[8] The Fu-Go utilized the 220 miles per hour (350 km/h) winter jet stream to cross 5,000 miles (8,000 km) of the Pacific Ocean in approximately three days. US government didn't release this information till years after the war ended. The balloons caused some minor forest fires in US

There were actually a death and several injuries attributed to the ballon bombs. A Pastor and his family were on a picnic, I believe in Oregon, when either they stumbled upon one or two unexplored bombs or they released, fell and detonated near them, killing the Pastor’s wife and either killed one child or badly injured a couple of children. You can look it up, it’s been awhile since I read about it.

Take a good look at a strange fenced-in area just behind the U.S. Park Police District One Station in Hains Point (Ohio Drive S.W.). This building has no sign identifying its presence. During the construction years (I believe 2002-2010, after 9/11), many dump trucks were hauling dirt out of the construction area and it was highly secured, meaning, you couldn't see what was going on. This large building was constructed next to the Long Bridge rail line which is owned by CSX Transportation. From Google map, this building has a large number of cooling systems which suggest a connection to a power source. You cannot find any documents anywhere on the Google search site about this building, nor you can find construction permits or approvals. The front gate is just behind the U.S. Park Police station which gives its security indirectly. Strangely this building is two times larger than the U.S. park police station, with a parking lot for just 6 cars. This building is just plain weird and suggests has something to do with underground security system.

I have been posting requests for him to visit all the various war memorials. I bet he has something to say about those memorials that doesn't appear on the official videos relating to the war memorials. He has not acknowledged the request, so I thought I would piggyback on your request.

We used to play soft ball there at the park next to the NSWC - in fact one time I got lost and made a right instead of a left and found myself at the front gate of the NSWC - needless to say, I had to turn back

This was very interesting. I didn’t know the structure had ever been damaged by friendly fire. Poor President Lincoln, he was shot and killed then many decades later, some guy pops off a few rounds at him. I can imagine that if his ghost was there (I’ve heard he roams the memorial) he would be doing a face palm 🤦🏻♂️.

Newport Rhode Island & Washington DC are my favorite places..if you have ever ridden a subway in NYC you will be amazed at subways in DC..
One of those sites was at the Indian Head Hwy/Beltway intersection on the south side of Oxon Hill Rd.. I grew up in Forest Heights, and we use to play over there. (when you could walk around Oxon Hill) LOL. Fun times.

I think it's on the the C&O canal towpath by the Potomac waterfront near the old aqueduct bridge.
