Ratt is a really fun band from a guitarists’ perspective. They had some of the best 80’s-era riffs, in my opinion. They definitely had a signature sound and stood apart from lots of the other hair bands.
I agree, and I think it's because they were pioneers and that gives them cred. The posers after them didn't cut it.
@UberCrispy Great comparison. They weren't just good time boys. I always felt that early Aerosmith and Guns and Roses shared that lineage.
Warren is supposedly working on a new solo project. I'm really looking forward to that
Exactly, I’m a guitar 🎸 player and God Knows! The guitar on these is some of my favorite to listen to up there with “The Dan” Steely Dan, and Phish, Metallica, Pantera and VH. I bought the Ratt greatest hits album 💿 a few years ago, hasn’t left my CD player in my car
Anytime a band does a cover of Lay it Down, every guitarist in the room looks up to see if the guitar player does the stretch like Warren and Robin did, or if they "cheat."
Ratt’s first three album are untouchable “pop metal”. They absolutely crushes in the mid 80’s.
First 5
Fucking punishing band!
Mountain like riffs with jaw dropping amazing vocals and don’t forget the incredibly well written mind blowing lyrics.
Don’t forget the “buldge”.
They fucking sucked.
That’s the point.
@@Bullntheheather your funny as shit, as a big fan of the guitar player for the band "Warren" I was learning to play when they became popular and at 14 they seemed to be the prototype for a rock band. I still dig the stuff Warren played but if you felt like picking them apart it isnt hard to do...I guess you can call what Steven whats his name does singing......not.
@@noelwinslow6899 I dug the band when I was 11.
Having to choose between all the other Pop metal acts.
Ratt was definitely a tad better.
I just think the majority of that particular genre wasn’t at all mind blowing and to make things worse none of the bands music aged that well.
At least to my ears.
Fads come and go.
If we are picking faves of that era I’d have to say quiet riot really hit the mark as did early Crue.
@@BullntheheatherYou are right about the genre. Didn´t get it at all. In my opinion
most of the Ratt songs still sound amazing. Lyrics, yeah well, you know..
I think it suits the boots, let´s leave it at that. 😅
Ratt & Cinderella were the most underrated 80s Hair Metal Bands
Hell yeah both were top notch in the height of the hair bands. Both had great tunes. Tom Kiefer and his vocals, Toms still out rocking today.
Dokken and WASP too
Exactly
many were in the great 80's and 90's hair band love era rock age.. dangerous toys, skid row, sleeze beez, blue murder, firehouse, trixter, enuff znuff, killer dwarfs, KIX, house or lords, alias, danger danger, L.A. guns ..its endless
@@andrewvanhalen1984Dokken had the best guitarist: George Lynch! As good as Van Halen!
_Ratt_ was one of Eddie Murphy's favourite bands, and insisted they somehow be put in his movie, "The Golden Child." The band received a bump in popularity thanks to the film.
Out of the Cellar and Invasion of Your Privacy were out before that movie was made.
Ratt was already a global band which is why Murphy was aware of them in the first place.
@@stuwest5862 You're right, but what's your point?
@@stuwest5862 a band that's already huge can still experience a bump. people who weren't into metal probably saw them in the movie and wanted to hear more. kinda like with Metallica and Stranger Things. they didn't need a bump but they sure got it ;)
True!
Thanks bot
One of the best, most talented, self imploding bands of the 80’s, “hair,“glam”,” metal”, call it whatever you like, these guys were off the charts, in their heyday. Each member was unique in their own way, which, in my opinion, made them fantastic. If, you were around then, and had a chance to see them, you got to see the rise, the height, and then the slide, of their career’s, and lives. Still, in my opinion, one of the best, if not the best, to come out of L.A. in the 80’s! “RATT N ROLL” FOREVER!!!!
No, don’t call it whatever you want. Hair metal is derogatory as it disrespects the music. Just call it hard rock. Another poster called it pop metal. No, it’s hard rock. Because most of this style music was in the 80’s, we can call it 80’s hard rock.
Milton Berle's nephew,Marshall Berle managed RATT. That's how they got Uncle Miltie to do the "Round and Round video.
Ratt n Roll! I'm glad Bill appreciates some of the best music ever created
I don't care what anybody says....you hit the stage you go with the energy ....period.
I never liked the cheesy synchronized dance moves, but otherwise yeah I agree. You're supposed to be putting on a show so people can have a good time. It annoyed me when for a while there in the 90s some bands seemed to be trying real hard to act like they didn't even want to be there. Fuckin' A, if you don't wanna be there, there are plenty of other people/bands who'd love to take your spot and have some fun with it.
I'm a big Ratt fan, I followed them around L.A back in the day when they were starting out.
Asking a rockstar if they're a womanizer is like asking if bears shit in the woods.
Can't womanizer without willing participants!
Thank someone, for little whores, without them what would little rock stars do?
Warren DeMartini was an absolute beast!! Best guitar player in the 80’s except for Eddie of course.
Eddie VH, Randy Rhoades, Slash, Hammett, Chris Holmes and Demartini. You can't pick just 1
You forgot George Lynch .
Good catch...... Lol
You forgot Jake E Lee -who also taught Warren Ratt Riffs
And Randy
I'm 40 and love ratt since I was 12 I think they are the best from that genre era.
the 80's, 90's and 2000's were never ready for Juan's moves. Dude was three decades ahead of his time.
Juan was cheesy but he was a great singer. Gave the backing vocals good pop.
Sometimes people overlook how important those harmonies can be to a great song.
@@dogslobbergardens6606 Yes Michael Anthony says hello.
much love to bill burr from this Ratt gang
I saw RATT a bunch back in the 80’s. Great shows!!!
Love RATT ! , THE base player really did over do it with the 'fame dancing'
I remember when this episode came out. Vh1 brought back behind the music and put out this episode and one on Pantera. Had to have been around the time they were doing that big metal docu-series.
I remember too. I found it pretty amusing that for the first time ever I was watching VH1 a lot, on purpose. I genuinely enjoyed both those series.
Hilarious, my son is in a band, and they always roasted the bass player for his weird stage moves haha
🎼Round N Round!🎶
what comes around goes around . . . _just give it time!_
Here's some trivia for Ratt fans...Remember the young Steven getting ready to blow out the birthday candles in the Lay It Down video? He also played the kid in the Jurassic Park scene where Dr. Grant unnecessarily freaks him out by describing how a Velociraptor would gut and eat a person.
…so try and show some respect…
I knew I saw that kid somewhere before! 👍🏻
Holy shit, you’re right!
That's old. How about Maryanne Gravette??
Playmate of the year 1985 on the cover of Invasion of Your Privacy is the same girl on the Lay it Down video.
@@Scottocaster6668 wasn’t she dating Pearcy
@@robpaxson4455 you know, I think she did for a short time.
Loved RATT. Still do.
Hearing Bill talking about Meshuggah was cool because he's a drummer! But this is cool and hilarious, and about a band I used to love!
Saw Ratt open for RUSH in the early eighties ...8th row ( approximately) ...they were great ... especially Warren D Martini ( how great is that fkn name ) ....and Ratt was just the appetizer... RUSH was the main course .
I would never think to put those two bands on tour together... what a bizarre combo. That's a good thing though, don't get me wrong. It gets a little old when there's several bands that all sound more or less the same. Variety is good.
RATT was my first concert, 1985 INVASION OF YOUR PRIVACY TOUR. It was AWESOME!!!
Mine too. I was 12, my mom dropped my friends off and waited in the parking lot
My first RATT concert!!! It was the best!!!!!!😎
That album needs no skips ! That and savage amusement are my favorites from that time , lil before I was out here
Juan C. And his moves….rocked!
RATT N’ ROLL….IMO the best glam band yes I know everyone says Crue and they were great but RATT has an amazing depth of songs if you like that style music
Musically these guys were miles ahead of the other bands of that era. Mostly because of Warren but like him or not,Blotzer was a huge part of this as well.Solid as a rock drumming. If you dont have a good drummer you dont have a good band.
Robbin Crosby was one of the main songwriters too. When left the band was never the same again.
I'm a singer, but I'm convinced Bobby was (at least at times) playing drums melodically. "Scene of the Crime" is a major instance that comes to mind.
@@Limited_Light First thing out of his mouth when I met him at a McCartney concert was "Hello, do you know me? I'm what they call the RINGO of the metal world. Can you guess? I was sort of embarrassed for the both of us because I hadn't a clue so I just blurted out..Hair Metal? He laughed his ass off, said his spiel, and proceeded to shit on Pearcy. Nobody sits at a rock show an hour early for free.
@@joepermenter7228 Yet this fails to address whether there's melody in the drum parts to SotC.
@@Limited_Light I'm not sandbagging, It's clear that he feels he's got Beatle level tendencies in music though.
I literally just saw this!! God know how many times I've seen the special. I think I was 9 when this and the pantera one came out. Sucks what happened to Robin though!!
don't feel bad for him. in fact, throw a party ;)
RATT AND ROLL!
Ratt was my favorite band as a teenager and my first concert (1987). They were part of that first wave of post Van Halen bands from LA that also included Dokken, QR, and Motley. Hence, there was some semblance of originality and legitimate talent.
I regret not going to the Strip to check out more bands. I went to one show at the Troubadour and couldn't even tell you the band's name
@@jackedkerouac4414 Yeah, there were so many bands out of LA in the 80s. Incredible.
Queensryche was a little different
@@IronMaidenDoD a little different . . . so . . . Queersryche?
Thank you, Izzy, for this video! When I heard this on his podcast, I really wanted to see what he was talking about. Thanks to you, I finally can.
Fucking love it Bill
RATT N ROLL
*"I just wanna be somebody"* is their best banger
juan has a lot of writing credits
Spinal tap moment with the bass player.
Sold! I am in. Thanks Bill Burr. Funny stuff. I had a former bass player that was trying to be a frontman as well. At one point we used to put a duct taped X mark on the stage floor and require him to stay on point.
We had a bass player, Ryan, that was the opposite - he was rock solid but he had all the stage presence of an old empty cup. Literally wouldn't even let his hair down. So at one gig right in the middle of a song the rhythm guitar player snuck over to him and pulled the hair tie off his pony tail.
At the next gig he did the same thing, and Ryan just calmly reached into his pocket, got another hair tie, put his hair back again, and came right back on the beat playing LMAO. Slick as hell, you could barely even tell he'd stopped playing for a couple seconds. The other guitar player had to respect that, so he stopped messing with him :p
Bill trying to end on a positive note "At least eventually people get it together".
Yeah, clearly you don't really know what happened, it's been a perpetual clusterfuck.
If there is a positive note, it's that Juan is a grown-ass man who wouldn't give a flying fuck what the others think about his "moves".
But overall we can just hope the surviving members get back together, and they find someone worthy of playing Robbin's parts.
Juan looks like a dad at one of those heavy metal band camps
It's all in good fun. I was in a band and we all had little jokes about each other. It's what kept it fun and egos in check. Nothing too mean spirited
Met Robin Crosby at The Coconut Teazer in 1989 Amazing nice guy
I love Juans stage moves. Ratt was never as good without Juan.
Yes definitely. I remember my sister seeing them back in the day and raving about Juan's showmanship. Its entertainment. Especially during THAT era.People paid $ and wanted a show.Croucier understood this.
And he is the funniest part of that Ratt geico commercial.
Paul Stanley was the same for Kiss, it’s entertainment folks, DLR was a helluva performer for VH.

Twinkle-Toes-Bass-Bang!
RIP Ratt guitarist Robbin Crosby! He was Singer Stephen Pearcy's "right hand man in creating the monster that the band became!" - A direct quote from Stephen. He was a big part of their image. All the other surviving members have their own various solo work or with other bands. It'd be great to see the remnant of them getting back together for old time sake. But it just wouldn't have everything that made them THEM back in the 80's without Robbin.
He also has a signature guitar still. The Jackson King V.
Which, ironically he never played because he was too tall. He actually played a Custom Shop Double Rhoads.
Awesome Guitar 🎸 tracks Ratt real deal rock guitar 💯
Ratt played cool music and were great Live when I saw them. Try to play thier songs on guitar, theyre pretty well thought out and the solos are hard!
DeMartini is one of the top riff masters out there , sorta like Page , almost everything the guy thinks of on the neck just comes out cool af.....wish I had it !
Good one Bill 🤟😎
I’ve watched that behind the music episode (years ago) and remember thinking how fucked up it was for that poor bass player to get crapped on by his band mates. I believe it was Milton Berle‘s nephew who is managing RATT at that time, the same guy that briefly managed Van Halen.
Thanx Bill. Always been a HUGE RATT fan. This was awesome!
Early RATT kicked ASS!
RATT was kind of like the Duran Duran of pop metal. The riffs were a little more intricate and their look was a little more exotic.
Warren and Robbin both played so well off each other.
Ratts last album Infestation kicked FN ass! Best of Me and Infestation were absolutely awesome!
Ratt 100% heavy metal hair band with skills.
Juan is an amazing bass player and wrote alot of their hits. Nobody wants to watch a bunch of dead bodies on stage. He made that band..
Ha! Check your history...... Stephen has the lyrics written to RATTs biggest hits in his notebook from 1977....... Not Juan my friend. Nice try tho..lol
I found out the bass player along with the singer are the only two member who are still in the band from their heyday.
Marshall Bearle managed Ratt who was Milton's uncle kid. Marshall also managed Van Halen for their first year in 1978 fella.
The most random slapped together video I have ever seen
Ratt N Roll!🤘
Ratt was once my favorite metal band, and in 84, my four best buds and I won an air band competition using 'Wanted Man.' We were 19, had dyed and teased hair down the middle of our backs, dressed in white leather and parachute pants, and even wore a little mascara when we went out to our favorite heavy metal bar in Tulsa - pure posers, as none of us could play an instrument. Anyway, we won tickets to a Ratt concert in Ada Oklahoma of all places. I left my buddies behind (I was the only one with a car) because the night before the concert, I instead invited a beautiful girl (such a dick move) who I met at the club the night we won the air band competition. At the concert, my date and I were in the front row when the bass player came to the front of the stage and handed us a backstage pass. My date was dressed as metal girls did in the 80s - short leather and lace with big hair. So of course, after the meet and greet, they handed 'us' an invitation to their motel (yes 'motel') to party. I was feeling pretty good about myself, and my ego was on 11. However.....
As we arrived at the motel, we saw the tour bus outside and a small crowd headed to a second floor room (outside facing room), so we followed. At the top, we were greeted by 'security' (likely a roadie), who let us pass when we showed him our invite. I was behind my date as we entered the small room (just two beds and a small table in the corner), but I could see Pearcy across the crowded room doing blow and laughing. When we entered, I could see him check her out, then his gaze went straight to me. He then made a kind of waving motion in my direction, and I waved back (like an idiot) until I suddenly realized he was signaling another guy just inside the door. Before my foot hit the carpet, I felt a hand pushing me back outside to cold reality. My date turned to go with me but was pulled back inside, and just before the door slammed in my face she said, 'please wait, I'll only stay a few minutes.' I just stood there on the landing in disbelief, hearing the raucous party happening inside, as the 'security' guy pointed to the stairs and shrugged.
I walked down the stairs and then waited in my car in the motel parking lot. Like an idiot, I stayed for several hours before finally deciding to head back to Tulsa alone. I remember being sooo pissed - I even tore up the backstage pass and invite and threw it on the ground in front of the tour bus before I left (I showed them) - clearly, I was totally emasculated and demoralized. How quickly it can all turn when you're young - on top of the world to total loser with a dismissive flick of a rock star's wrist. I never spoke to that girl again, and it took a minute before I listened to Ratt again; however, I feel certain I made a full recovery by the next trip to the club. Even still, Ratt continues to be one of my favorite bands of the Hair Metal Era. Long Live Rock!
Only a Ratt fan would unload their loser luggage on the internet. At least you got a badass concert story like I did with Blotzer.
@@joepermenter7228 Yeah, and he fucked over his buddies so he thought he could hook up with a girl. I knew what was going to happen the second I started reading the second paragraph. Fuck him, karma's a bitch.
Huh..? How ‘bout that?! Bill is a fan of Ratt! Cool!
I'm shocked Bill thinks Pearcy could still sing.
On his best day he was only slightly better than Vince Neil.
vince sounded like a young goat
Pearcy definitely has a unique voice. Part of the reason why they "made it".
He can't do bit live anymore though.
Hope he is well.
He was ok through the first few albums but I always wondered what they would have sounded like with a gifted vocalist
Saw ratt great white and warrant in 1989 in my home town of Grand Rapids Michigan
Funny that a lot of hair metal bands that came after RATT were using those moves the Bass player was using, there.
"The where am I" lmao
I still religiously listen to Ratt
Juan was great, not the typical bass player he co-wrote many of their hits.
Wrong my friend... Helped on a couple out of hundreds of songs of which are cut down to 12 or so per album.

My parents were hard partiers back then and used to take me to record works I'd get one tape for from 1$-3$ depending how good the release was really. I had every kiss album on tape, most motley, and Alice Coopers .... So mannnny wish I still had em: 100's

Hes also great in that geico commercial 😄
Baaahaaa
Ratt was bad ass!
"That guys a pro!!"
The Gyrocoptor! LOL
Welcome to being a bass player
I read a sad UA-cam comment a couple years ago about being somewhere and Pearcy showed up but was way too old for the party and weirded out a bunch of young chicks. They made it sound really depressing, but in reality he was probably just chilling and they just felt sorry for him for being older.
The chick's were probably looking for black rappers.
I saw rat in the 80s at RFK stadium with poison opening and it just go to show how good rat was
Marshall Berle was their manager. I think he was Milton’s nephew
Juan rocked! Thats messed ip guys haha

the don dokken george/lynch beef was great too.
Ratt's connection to Milton Berle really is kind of a WTF moment.
Mandela Effect for you: I saw RATT win Star Search in the 80's, now there's no mention of them ever being on Star Search much less winning it. I know what I saw. My little brother remembers too.
Yes the wanderland where am I move seems to be my favorite!!! Lol!!!
There music is awesome.
Yeah Juan doing the crab or whatever. So good. I love that Burr loved Ratt. So did I.
jaun actually wrote most of their biggest songs, he's a riff monster
Juan brought the songs, the high harmony voice, the stage energy and the glue that kept it together
Wrong again. What's 'MOST'...... 2? 3?
Of all the Sunset Strip glam bands that came up in the '80s, Ratt is one of only a handful that I still listen to. They were heavier than most of the acts that came along in the second half of the decade (excepting G n' R and a couple others), and Warren was a master on the guitar.
I like all genres. Rock,Metal,Thrash,Death metal,black Metal,pop,some rap..
When metal elitists say that ratt & 80s hard rock sucked.. i dont really understand it.
They were more of a descendent of Classic Rock than say Motorhead & late 70s punk like Metallica & the like.
Ratt brought a sexual aspect to their music, image & stage show. Much like Queen,Sweet,Zepppelin,Stones,Rick Derringer etc. Why do those bands get a pass but not Ratt? They certainly werent lacking in the talent dept.
Since grunge we reallly havent seen Sex rock except for perhaps 69 Eyes or Type O Negative.
Metal fans have really become pretentious elitists who all listen to the same 6 bands & downplay anything that doesnt fit into that narrative.
The more they hate RATT & others not named Metallica,Maiden,Dio,Rush,Judas Priest or Slayer, the more i celebrate Ratt n roll.

It's especially mind-fucking when the bass player's moves were better than the rest of the band's... Also seemingly the most grounded and talented.

So true!
Well Juan could catch all kinds of sh!t but when you write a lot of the songs guess he gets most the money. I guess he will make out ok, he also looks far healthier than the rest.
Yep. You only get paid once for playing concerts. You can get paid the rest of your life for the writing and publishing rights.
I think Bobby is a very underrated drummer. He's my personal favorite. Any time I play drums...I ask myself how would Bobby Blotzer play this song? I'd love to meet him.
OUT OF THE CELLAR
Ratt were one of the only LA glam bands to stick to their heavy sound (the only slight exception being the song Givin' Yourself Away which is a half-ballad half-rocker)
"Givin' Yourself Away" is proof that not every glam metal band is cut out for ballads.
