9.800Rpm Honda Civic EF9 || Onboard B18 VTEC Race Car

- This is Jason Gibbs´ Honda Civic EF9, looking like it was taken straight from the early 90´s Japanese Racing scene. Here it is at Leadfoot Festival in New Zealand, attacking Rod Millen´s driveway with its B18CR Vtec engine powering this Old School JDM Hatchback.
With over 250Hp from the 1.8L Naturally Aspirated engine unit and a redline set at 9.800rpm thanks to Toda cams, forged pistons and ITB´s among other modifications, and weighing 1000Kg (Minimum race weight for the NZ Honda Cup series where this car normally runs) it ended up postin a mighty impressive 55.08 second chrono, despite gearbox issues ( which can be seen on the video ).
All complemented by the period correct livery and the bespoke Aero kit that still fits very much the Classic JDM there, it is an undeniably cool machine that deserves our attention...

Absolutely love the Civic EF9, I always wanted one but in the UK they were all crash damaged or rot boxes 😟 I haven't seen one for well over a decade here in England, great video 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🏁

@Dr. Mantis Toboggan yea I own a ef hatch and I live in a big city but I’ve only seen about 4 other ef hatches ever... the sedan is much more common to see

I’m sure there was an old model Volvo featured on this very Chanel a while back. It was a black estate which looked like it was more than capable in the right hands.
A Volvo 850 Wtcc made a hill climb run and locked pretty quick. Just get a proper suspension set up, wheel set up and some weight reduction. If you want to go really crazy you can add some aerodynamic parts
What Volvo? The old school 4-cylinder Volvo engines are very tough and can make a lot of power... plus there are loads of performance parts available, including new marine engine blocks, and stroker cranks that can get you up to 3 litres...

Needs better gearing. And a better gearbox. Are they cables in these same as k20??
Gearing is set up for circuit racing not hill climbs, the b series uses shift linkages not cables. Modern technology has heaps of improvements 😂

It was still pretty fast, but there´s always next year to try again ;) .... let´s hope so 😐
Absolutely would be quicker in a straight line, however the trade off is smaller brakes and narrower tyres which are a disadvantage on the track (I changed nothing going from the circuit to this hillclimb) 🙂

man that thing is almost stock H pattern that must be very challeging to drive
You can get a sense of how hard it is by the onboard footage ;)
Not so bad around the circuit but a lot of work up this short driveway, our class rules dont allow for sequential boxes so for now H pattern it will remain
