I tried to get there yesterday using FR 310. I did not know about the other road. This year the monsoon rains are still happening. The road was ok and then became muddy, one lane, with high banks and deep ruts; it was very treacherous. After bottoming out a few times, and noticing it looked like it was going to rain soon, I decided to turn back in my GMC Terrain SUV. I had to drive backwards 1/4 of a mile to find a place to turn around. I then ended up going to the Canjilon Lakes and caught a limit of Rainbow Trout. So, it turned out to be a great day after all. 🙏
I think your channel is so good! You should have many thousands of subscribers. You provide such all encompassing info…..love how you show it on google earth and go from there, giving ALL the info anyone could want or need. Thanks so much for doing this 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much and I wish I had that many subscribers, one day maybe! I try to make them as helpful as possible. Thanks for watching & commenting, glad you like the videos!
Thanks for subscribing! The road to Trout Lakes & area would be perfect for a UTV! I bet you two find some epic campsites! Dang, I’m a little jealous…😉 Take care & have fun! 🏕️
Wow- sounds like an awesome set up! I really can’t tell you yes or no, I drive a 2013 CRV, and there were times that I wouldn’t have been comfortable backing out for oncoming traffic. Other parts of the road were fine. I was there when fall hunting started, when it seemed “busy”, and didn’t have an issue. You will most likely get scratched by branches. A commenter in a Sprint Van said that they had to turn around. Turning around would also be an issue!
Of course! ;) There are many sites before the road gets bad that you can camp, just not at the lake. I have heard that the road to Canjilon Lakes is not that rough at all, and that’s in the area. I haven’t visited there yet, but off the same forest road...
If you have more questions, ask away! I’m from MN and have lived in northern NM for over 10 yrs :) There are many places I have camped that I haven’t made a video on...

Awesome video! Extremely informational.
Thank you!
Cool spot. I am thinking of heading that way with a 20 ft converted short bus, curious if you think that road is too much for it?

@@highdesertcampertours thanks for the info! I'm not getting the area and relying on free campsites. Net for cool spots.
