Message from Petra's Husband, Great video and very informative, I have an JD 855 on my farm block in New Zealand. Your video has given me the tech info to fix much the same issues. Will put this information to use and I enjoyed your presentation.
Love it ! Most of my videos are helping people NOT learn the hard way like I seem to do most of the time ! “You don’t know what you don’t know” is my motto most of the time and it’s all about learning ! Just check that filter before you start a project and keep on tractoring I guess is the term !🤔
I have an 855 that was my grandfather's and I am 0% mechanical, but these videos are a life-saver for me! I didn't know that there was a linkage that adjusted the hydraulics so that the pump wouldn't headhead when you lifted it too high. Also didn't know that it was called deadheading! And I just went out and looked and the linkage is bent on my tractor, which may explain why it does that, and also will make it hard to fix... but thank you for teaching me something I didn't know and how to fix it!! The horrible sound it makes when I lift the three-point hitch too high kills me, and now I know how to (eventually) make it go away. :)
That's excellent! One of the whole reasons for doing the video to help someone understand these things better. We don't know what we don't know. Thanks for the comment.

Oh wow sounds like you’ve e had it since new ! Yep there’s an adjustment at the hydrostatic pump and the mechanical levers that connect to the pedals. It came out of its neutral position. Good luck I haven’t done a video on that yet ! And yes You-Tube is the best for how to videos Thanks for the comment ! Also If I remember right🤔there are return springs to return the pedals to the neutral position also that could be broke if the pedal is staying forward when you release your foot off! Or binding linkage as well
thanks for the video it was a big help i have a 955 with 72 in mower and loader this video was a big help im from Illinois and will share the info to others

Great video! My father and I have had one of these since 86. Learned some things from you . Thanks.Just replaced the rubber coupler between the engine and the transmission. The old diesel was shakin right out of the mounts! Lucky to still get one as parts are becoming discontinued.....Tim
Awesome glad you got something out of the video. Great tip on the coupler the motor mounts shake clean apart on these things that coupler causing vibration would definitely aggravate that problem. I’m going to check my couplers for wear as mine isn’t a smooth Cadillac as well . Thank You!
Excellent video Sir, thank you very much. I don't currently own one of these tractors, but I might some day. Thank you for sharing this experience with us, you did superb job of explaining it. Art from Ohio

Thanks for making this video. I've looked for 2 years now to find a video over the hydraulics and didn't find it till till now. The problem I'm having is with the adjuster for the rate of fall. Even with it all the way open it will not let the three-point hitch down.
My problem was with the rock shaft control valve. Didn’t really understand it’s function until I watched this video. I’ve had my 955 for 25 years and never had a problem until this Spring. Valve needed to be opened just a bit. Thanks!
Nice job buddy good job you helped me. I was having a problem getting my 955 to use an auger in the back it wouldnt pick it out of the dirt very well. thanks again.
Thank you for making this video! I just got a 955 myself and I am trying to learn all I can! I found a 500+ service technical manual online but the info you gave isn't in it (or least in a way I could decipher). I got a 72" mid mower deck and a 4' bush hog I am planning to use with it. I live on a hill side and I hope this tractor works out alright
Awesome! Yes that tractor is going to work perfect for you I believe. With proper servicing and changing “ALL” the filters you should be good to go ! Love the silent fart title as well ! Good Stuff
I have an 855 and also live on a hill as well. One item you might want to consider is filling the rear tires with fluid, windshield wash fluid works. And only fill the tires half full.
Super video, I watched Niel Kotch shim his 755 from about 2100 up to 2500 give or take. I’m glad you like the results at 2100. I’ll remember your video if/when I add a 755 to my heard.👍
@@marshallsanders5672 You betcha, if you move the load closer to the tractor on the rear forks you will even be able to lift more, I’m guessing you know that though.

Hey, I see that you have what looks like a front dozer attachment on the tractor. I have the 955 and would like to add this attachment. Where did you get it?
Thanks Marshall. I have a Bad Boy Zero Turn mower with about 5 years of use. I have never serviced the Hydrostatic pump system at all.... going to ask the dealer today, where the filter is and what fluid it needs, and should it be flushed. I think it should.
i have a 1997 955 and it stop pulling with front trees when in four wheel drive I watched the video and have clean the back filter and replaced the other one My husband also replaced the front axle and spider gears had lots of wear a tear though that was the problem it wasn't still wont work when I pull my arena drag it just bogs down spins the back tire do you think i need to replace my hydraulic pump thanks any help will be greatly appreciated
It’s definitely NOT anything hydraulic! If the rear tires are spinning it’s getting hydraulic input to the Transmission and power to the rear wheels. There is a 4wd lever on the left of the seat, mess with that lever and check for positivity in the engagement to 4wd. Need to check and see if the front driveshaft (to the front differential) will turn free with the front tires off the ground in 4wd. It’s either still something int the front differential or the transmission itself isn’t transmitting power to the front driveshaft to power the front wheels.
I’m always learning watching your videos, you might want to put one of those e40ds in that John Deer like the one you built for me which is working like a dream lol

Great video. I’ve got a 755 and an 855. I haven’t found an adjustment for the front end loader relief. Mine slams down on the 755 and bounces the tractor, but the 855 works like I’d expect. Any thoughts? Both have the model 70 loaders. I just picked up the 755 with 1800 hours, but I’ve had the 855 for about 12 years.
Hi. I have an 855 tractor that has just started to develop a problem with the lift arms going back down, it gets really slow or won’t drop at all when the tractor has been in use for a while. Any help would be much appreciated.
I have a 655 and am wondering what front blade you have on your 755. I'm struggling to find one that I think would mount directly to my tractor. Great video and tips, thank you!
Jim, It is the specific Blade for the tractor. John Deere calls it a DOZER Blade. I have yet to find a Model number for it. The plate has only a Serial # and says DOZER on it! It is quite the apparatus as it is long and connects all the way to the middle of the tractor and also has pressure relief valve body built into it so if the blade jammed it will relieve pressure before blowing out a cylinder. I use it so much it just stays on the tractor these days. I have a deck mower also but i use the blade so much I don't use it! Good luck finding one you wont regret buying it . I can Comment you the Serial # if you think that may help you find one?

Hey Marshall, Great video! I have a 755 also, just bought it about ten months ago so I'm still learning a lot about it. One question I have is regarding the Rock Shaft. I have adjusted the drop rate with the hand valve like you showed, and have that where I want it, but my lever to set the rock shaft is either all the way up, or all the way down. I have to use a piece of wire wrapped around the ROPS to keep the rock shaft up, otherwise it falls all the way down. There is no stopping and leaving the lever anywhere between all the way up or all the way down, except for holding it in position by hand or using the little cam stop thing that isn't effective at holding it from falling to the all the way down position. Is there an adjustment for that lever that controls the rockshaft so that it will stay in a position between full up and all the way down? Thank You!
Rick, Good afternoon great question. There are no other Rockshaft adjustments except for the two I showed in my video. With that said we can narrow down the cause of it and correct it ! First off did you make sure the second adjustment I showed is correct as in when in the full raise position there is about An inch of free travel with the Rockshaft arms ? Using the turnbuckle to adjust it. Make sure this adjustment is correct before proceeding. 2) When in the lowered position when you move the lever to say half travel up does it move up half way and then just fall back down or does it not raise at all unless you go to the full raise position ? Does it hold itself in the full raise position ? Let me know about these questions and we’ll go from there !
@@marshallsanders5672 Hey Marshall, Finally got a chance to get in and take a closer look at the Rockshaft on my 755. I checked the full-raised position, and there is at least an inch, probably more like two inches of free travel in the Rockshaft arms. I also took off the plastic guide that the Rockshaft lever rides in. It is cracked in a couple of spots, the cam lever was rusted up and not locking down, and the lever itself was bent up from 35 years of use. I repaired the plastic guide piece, cleaned up the cam piece, and straightened out the lever. By doing those things, it seems the arms are stopping and holding wherever I stop the lever. I never adjusted the turnbuckle, so it must be just the tension of the lever against the plastic guide that is keeping it wherever I leave the lever. Before it felt as if there was a spring taking the lever back to the full down position everytime I let go of the lever, or when I didn't have it wired to the ROPS to keep it from falling down.
Ok that makes sense ! Sounds like you Gottr’ fixed so to speak and generally that’s what matters. And if you need the arms to go up higher you can just adjust the turnbuckle shorter til you have an inch or so of play ! Good stuff !
Hey Marshall Great video, I have A 755 and my fuel filter doesn’t stay full it runs until is almost empty and shuts off, started today, can you please tell me anything, thank you
Sounds like either the pump isn’t keeping up or the pick-up in the fuel tank is clogging up! Basically a restriction somewhere from the tank pick-up to the filter or the pump is not flowing enough.
One of the problems with the primary filter is that is gets clogged when water enters the system. Just like the diesel fuel it will gel and clog the filter. Just changing the fluid is not the cure because it WILL clog again. Ask me how I know...LOL Take the back off the transmission and clean and dry it out...or you can put some diesel anti gel treatment in the system.
Interesting! Yeah I could see that happening. I did spray brake clean all throughout the bottom of the sump and clean it out best I could. Good tip thanks for the comment!
I have a 755 and it loses power going up a slight grade or just pushing snow. Bucket moves slow. Cannot drive in high. Wondering if it’s the hydro filter? Any advice?
Oh wow, That sounds very much like its starving for oil but not completely starved like mine was. Best thing to do is Pull the drain plug and see how much oil is FREE FLOWING out. 5 min. into the video shows where mine was BARELY flowing out which indicated the restriction that I had. Also Make sure you have the proper WEIGHT hydraulic oil, These Hydrostatic John Deere's take HY GUARD (Low Viscosity) Hydraulic oil in the transmission. If someone put to THICK or HIGHER VISCOSITY oil in it can cause the issue your having.
Marshal please help me. I have a 4r100 out of my excursion with a v10. Overdrive stopped working hit 40+ speed rpm’s ramp up. I ohm the solenoid seemed good
If it has 1st,2nd,3rd just fine the shift solenoids are working. Revving out in O/D sounds like something internally has gone out of it/not holding. Fluid burnt smell ? Codes in computer ? Material in the pan ?
@@climbhightreeservice2153 Yes O/D IS 4th gear. If the computer is COMMANDING 4th gear and its revving out something must be wrong inside. Might be worthwhile to pull valvebody and Air check O/D clutch. Also drive it till it revs out, cancel O/D on the stalk button and see if it just shifts to third and holds 3rd. If it does there must be a leak in O/D oil circuit somewhere. The weld on the O/D drum may have broke I’ve seen that on 4R100’s stamped steel drums
Thank you! My O/d is never on. So you’re saying drive it if it does not shift push the od button, if nothing happens it’s definitely inside? I have never pulled a valve body or anything. Do you have a video how to air check the clutch?

First off did you make sure the second adjustment I showed is correct as in when in the full raise position there is about An inch of free travel with the Rockshaft arms ? Using the turnbuckle to adjust it. Make sure this adjustment is correct before proceeding.
2) When in the lowered position when you move the lever to say half travel up does it move up half way and then just fall back down or does it not raise at all unless you go to the full raise position ?

@@marshallsanders5672 Thanks for your help, and for the great video!
Lets see some more about that 55 series of tractor please
Good morning sir how I can adjusted the forward pedal
One of the problems with the primary filter is that is gets clogged when water enters the system. Just like the diesel fuel it will gel and clog the filter. Just changing the fluid is not the cure because it WILL clog again. Ask me how I know...LOL
Take the back off the transmission and clean and dry it out...or you can put some diesel anti gel treatment in the system.
@@marshallsanders5672 okay, I'll give it a try today. Thanks for the info.
Awesome
👍
Nice video!
Thank You!
Yes 1st,2nd, 3rd fine. The fluid was perfect pan was perfectly clean to metallic. I was stubborn and put a new shift solenoid in. no codes
Revving out of O/D? So is 4th gear also considered O/d?
0:53 F@¿k TikTok. That's not soul food, it's brain poison. I'll stick with tractor stuff.
Agreed! Thanks for the comment!!
Yes, fuck tic Tok
