I was not aware of the axle plugs. It’s been a few years since I changed to gear oil, and I check it on a regular basis, so I guess no foul no harm! I have to check it regularly due to seal leaks on both sides. I have the seals in stock, just haven’t worked up the gumption yet. Concerning the air filter, I experienced some confusion when I changed mine also. It seems the dealer parts men are not very knowledgeable on machines this old. They did not indicate that the inner filter was part of the assembly, and mine did not have one. Somehow I think I would feel better with the inner filter. Keep up the great videos.
Another great video, you pointed out zerks I never found. Have you ever or know of anyone that has repair the steering box leak? Mine started pushing fluid out of the steering wheel, so I've remove the box on my way to rebuilding it, or just resealing the leaking end. Thanks again for your very well done posts.
message from Petra's Husband. Thank you for putting the videos up they are very useful and I now know what to look for on the JD 855 that is on our farm block. it belongs to my friend but I have a mechanical skills so he lets me repair it as he hates doing maintenance. I do have one question... On the 855 on our block it has a breather pipe from the rocker cover is this normal? any advise is welcome.
You are correct, you have the optional two stage filter housing like my 755. The outside one can be blown out periodically but not the inner. It should be replaced when it's dirty. Thanks for watching!
Good informative video. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!

Thank you. Yup, we're learning together on those old jems. Something new every day.
Thanks for watching!
Great vid. Always informative. I'm sure those axel plugs would be easy to miss at refill if not aware. Great tip. 👍
Thanks, and thanks for watching!
Great job on the oil & filter changes. I didn't realize there was two air filter options.
Surprised me also!

I haven't, sorry. Talked to a few that have, and it seems you can just do shaft seal. Hope this helps, and thanks for the comments!

Does pipe just hang down, or does it go to air cleaner?
Nice video
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
My 855 uses two (2) air filters.
