The best deal I got was when I was buying a new refrigerator. I bought a floor model. It was $400, but because it had a small dent on the side, I got it for $250. I said as long as the motor works that was fine with me!

Not a huge deal but fun: We stopped at a nursery on the way home one day to check on fruit trees. The price on plum trees was $18/each but my hubbie asked the lady if she would take less on two. She directed us to the man in charge and hubbie told him that we had $30 with us in cash and he gave us the deal. We loaded the trees up in our van and they are now growing in our yard! Also learned that before 9 am at our grocery store, the meat man can mark down meat that expires that day again.

I got a brand new front load washer and dryer with stands and free instalation for 1,000. We paid cash on the spot. The washer was 950, the dryer was 875, the stands were 55 each, and installation was 75. Talk about savings!

Got a deal on my apartment by bidding on it at an on-line auction. The monthly rate would normally be $1,050, but I got it for $333. The lease is for 6 months at a time. I've done this 3 times now on the same apartment. Once I got it for about $350 per month and the other time for about $750 per month. While this is not exactly negotiating face to face, auctions are a bargaining tool.

Piling on the discounts! Sounds like you took "Extreme Couponing" out of the grocery and into the mall. And you didn't even use coupons! I like it.

As a former customer service and sales phone rep I beg everyone: Please ask if there are any discounts or if there's any way to save money on your account! We literally can NOT offer some things to you unless you ask (and sometimes unless you're angry or want to cancel the service - which is sad but true).

The best bargain I found at a yard sale was a cedar 'hope chest' for $3...yes $3! The finish on its top was ruined by rain but otherwise it was fine. I padded the top then covered it with leather from another project. Then I lined the inside with satin fabric (also leftover from a former project). Now it's a bench/ hope chest! :)

Sounds huge to me! Not only did you get a good deal on the trees, but think about all those plums--plum jam, plum smoothies, plum bread, plum tart, German plum cake, plum pie . . .

Clear Channel radio stations trade advertising for products from companies which they, in turn, auction off online. The companies get the full value of the advertising no matter whether the items get sold or not or are sold very cheaply. They do this a couple times a year in various cities. I don't know if other radio stations do this. I have been fortunate that the activity for the auction in my city has been low so there is little competition.

I am a big fan of certain magazines, like Woman's Day, Family Circle, Country Living, etc.. Paying full price at the register is more expensive than a subscription. But you CAN score great deals on subscriptions just by doing your homework. Check online for the cheapest deals you can find, then call the publisher of the magazine (subscription dept number is usually listed on the last page of the directory) and tell them them the cheapest deal you found and where, and ask if they can beat it.

Loved your "Donald" impression Jeff! I have earned hundreds of dollars in prescription transfer gift cards over the years and this is just based on two monthly prescriptions that we use. I switch between Rite Aid, Kroger, Walgreens and Kmart. Sometimes these companies will have a limit for the number of times you can transfer an RX but I haven't had a limit imposed in quite some time. I also make sure that I use the gift cards to buy something we actually need.

Moved into a condo last summer. Gas fireplace needed inspection and cleaning. Found a great company. to make service cost more affordable for myself and others I negotiated a price based on the number of unit owners that participated in the service on a specific day....the higher the numbers the less expensive the price. I organized schedule, designed & distributed flyers etc.. Everyone got a discounted price and great service.

We just purchased a new all terrain double stroller for taking the grandbabies to the zoo for $100 less than the best online price we found. It was a new open box item on ebay. It matched the prices of used 6-9 year old strollers on craigslist.

Had a Frigidaire stove that was old and the wife wanted a new one. I went to Sears and I noticed a nice one but it was 800 bucks. On further inspection I noticed the bottom tray was not working correctly and when pulled out would drop on the right side ( I could fix it). I showed the salesman and offered $400 and he took the Deal. Come to find out it had a little white plastic clip broken and was the exact clip from the old stove. I replaced the clip from the old stove and saved 400 bucks ...:)

i work in retail, and 100% of the time if you speak to the manager and youre buying a large item or spending a good amount of money $500+ he always says yes to a discount, most of the time its 20% thats a huge saving for just asking!

Like other commenters, I can't figure out why I'm coming up blank--I fear I sometimes embarrass my husband with asking for discounts. The first that comes to mind: I was buying a suit that was already marked down, then an additional percentage off for using the store card (paid in full when the bill came, of course) and there was a snag on the slubby blazer fabric. Fixing it was only a matter of a snip of the scissors, but I was still able to get another 10% off the price by pointing it out.

That's OK. A deal is a deal. And your example shows plenty of craftiness! I think it's "Apprentice" worthy.

Most companies will beat it because they use third parties to sell the magazines. By dealing directly with you, they keep all the profit!
