- Spring cleaning and decorating is in full effect here at the cottage! I thrifted another amazing little piece of art for the cottage, got in some new curtains to refresh my little kitchen space, and brought in some fresh branches for the living room. I spent almost nothing on these little updates for the cottage, but these little decorating refreshes feel so good!
Charlie and I also spent some time in some very, very beautiful spots here in the Hudson Valley ... just soaking it all in and enjoying all that nature has to offer.

I totally love all of your videos, they feel like a visit with a best friend, you're so sweet and so is Charlie. Something you said, has happened to me too. I have seen such lovely people, who I do not know, on my walks to the shopping center, and when they give me a warm smile, it just totally makes my day! I have done the same thing especially with the older folks. I'm now on that side of the road, now that I'm 65 going on 66, I'm that older person too, and yet I feel so young. I smile at everyone, that glances my way, and they return the favor. Yes, we say nice greetings to one another, like have a beautiful day, God bless. I live in the Caribbean and here it is more of a custom to be that way.Buenos Dias! is the way to go. I wasn't always that way, though friendly but more withdrawn, with my rush and worries. But now I relax and look around me and enjoy everything that I see. My lovely nature walks are a balm to my soul. Your videos are the same way, thanks for sharing the joy.

My son went to a private school for a year where they travel around the world in the early 1990’s. We had to fund rose for two years. One was yard sales. We swore we were just buying things from each other in a circle until it came back to you 😃❤

If you get a piece of strong hardwood instead of the MDF whiteboard as shelving, and another middle bracket, you won’t have to worry about the shelf again. You also might consider adding a shelf or two above. Inexpensive and super easy! Being able to stack and not having to think about if the shelving is going to hold let’s one breathe easier. It doesn’t sit in the back of your head waiting for the collapse to happen. 😁 Voice of experience…. You just need shelf brackets - and you might thrift those, but they are not expensive, and the boards and screws/Molly bolts, a level and a drill. Get a friend to come help and give cookies and tea after. Then you trade help on one of their small projects. We all need each other.

It feels so good to get rid of items that you don't use or wear anymore. Sometimes it's hard to let go but don't you feel good when you do? I am packing up to move so I'm setting a lot of my belongings free too. No matter how you arrange your cottage, it always looks wonderful. What a beautiful life you have!

Hi, Kate....and Charlie! Two thoughts spurred by this week's video: 1) Would you have room for your piano under the window in your bedroom...? and 2) If I had garden beds I didn't want to plant, I'd spread LENTILS - yup, the dry legumes you buy for $1.50 a bag to make soup - and just rake them into the top soil of the unwanted bed. This will grow very quickly into a cover crop that will look lovely and can be churned right back into the soil to provide nutrients to any plants you might want to grow at a later date. If you were happy with ONE VEGETABLE/FLOWER BED, Stick with THAT! (imo). Thanks for such a lovely Spring video. -V PS The gold frame over the stove brightens up the dark wall tremendously - You might consider "collaging" several gold framed pictures in that area to make the whole area POP!

You thrift shop the way I used to shop garden nurseries and bookstores. They can be so addicting. I too am doing a spring refresh on my home, but trying to stick with what I have. Here’s a compliment… I wish my legs were shaped half as nice as yours when you dance among the blooming trees or stand on a cliff’s edge. They carry you to the most beautiful places. Another great video Kate! I love all your dresses and that white one looked particularly lovely on you. I felt your pain at the unexpected rain after spending time and money spraying for those dreaded ticks. We live on an island off the west coast of Canada and have to spray our roof to get rid of moss. My husband sprayed the other day, when it was supposed to be sunny and 15°C....2 hours after he finished it started to rain...sigh. Ah well, we always need the rain.

Each spring I dig a few bulbs out of the garden & plant them in pots to keep inside. Even a single hyacinth or tulip in a pot is wonderful. I leave them outside at night to last longer. In the fall I will plant them back in the garden. Maybe this will work for you & save you money? Best wishes♥

Hello Little Boho Gal.....I loved the segment of you dancing in the lovely white gown beneath the flowering trees. Yes, so much work to be done in any garden. I have begun my garden and yard clean up.....I find doing something every day and not trying to tackle everything at once the best way to go. I LOVE being out in my yard and gardens and try to take the time to actually enjoy the beauty of nature.....not just focus on the work. Your little Charlie is adorable and so attentive to your voice. Your boho cottage is lovely and so cozy and is a beautiful expression of your nature and love of nature.

Flower tip. Try to find beautiful plants in pots with roots or bulbs that flower so you can enjoy them time and time again. I only buy perennials and I plant them so they give me years of joy. 💖

You found the perfect place for your new picture. Especially after you took away the wood carving. The carving is lovely, but you were right that the wall looked better with the painting on top and nothing on the bottom. Charlie seems to get better and better (and cuter) all the time.

I agree with you about the small window of sunny days where it's not too hot being perfect to be out in. I get a little frustrated though that at this perfect time of year to sit out or start yard work...I can't. 🤦🏻♀It seems someone in the area in the hills I live near is venting their grow op...(sadly legal in Canada)that makes it too stinky to be outside. I loved the beginning of the video with the rain. I plant zinnias and cosmos directly into the soil, cross my fingers, and hope for the best. I kill my house plants. I recently had to throw a couple out. They had white things all over. Your cottage has so many interesting views. ❤

Regarding getting a bigger table: Everyone always seems to end up in the kitchen in my home over the years, so if this is what happens with you, why not envision your kitchen/dining/living room space as one ... a country kitchen. Make a big table the focal point, and stop dividing up the room, but put it down the length of the room. Embrace it as a room that draws folks to the table, and then distribute your other items around the perimeter in a meaningful way. It may mean rethinking some furniture items, but try to envision the room as empty, and then picking and choosing what you will use to give it the country kitchen vibe. Just an idea. I had a country kitchen once, and it was a celebrated room. Home was, and is, always born in the kitchen. Even small kitchens. Best wishes.
