    This video is 100% demonetized (Thanks, Lars!) so if you enjoyed this, I'd really appreciate if you helped me out on Patreon. You can get his patch, as well as all the ones I've already created and you'll help me continue making videos for this series. Let me know who you'd like to sound like next!

    I wonder why more bassists don't take inspiration from Cliff Burton. To make a bass guitar sound like a normal 6 string (or at least as close as you can get) was unique for the time. Unfortunately, I don't see too many examples of that style of bass being used in metal other than Cliff Era Metallica.

    • @lethalsparrow
      @lethalsparrow Рік тому +9

      Because Cliff already did it? Idk about other bass players but I don't wanna sound like a copy of another player.

      Because finding a lead who wouldn’t take a hit to his ego from a bass sounding better than him is impossible

      Funnily enough I really don't like Metallica, not any era of Metallica, but my tone is very dirt heavy, just lower and with a different tuning than you'd imagine

      @danzemacabre8899 2 місяці тому

      Thats kinda silly, he was the first to use some of those effects ,its perfectly fine to use some of the same effects and take it in another creative level or even some original works that would be showing respect to your influences, i mean imagine if that train of thought was prevailing after everyone heard jimi Hendrix or jaco pastorius? @lethalsparrow

      That's because Cliff actually didn't use fuzz for distortion, he used a tube screamer. The fuzz-wah was only used to get the screaming wah sound you hear in pulling teeth.

    The closest emulation of "Anesthesia" I've got is as following: BassWah (40% blend)->Ibanez TS (gain Muff(tone/sustain both around 45, mix 85)->AG750 amp (adjust to your liking, other amps are valid too)->delay(time

    For "Bell Tolls" try the bridge pickup (or a blend of neck and bridge) and up the treble. Also, the expression pedal doesn't go with the song's rhythm but I've figured it sorta has a range between 2 bars (that is pedal down for 2 bars and halfway up for another 2 bars). Hope it helps. Great video man.

    • @richard_4stringmf178
      @richard_4stringmf178 2 роки тому +1

      Cliff was playing above neck pickup or slightly close to bridge. He had mainly mids and lows with some drive, not full tone knob and used strings, that's why is that tone muffled (MoP sound). On RtL he had new strings, Alembic bass, tone had more treble and a lot more drive, I was never able to reproduce that tone as I lack bass and gear for that one but MoP one isn't that hard

    I gotta tell ya, I had a 20/20 Morley PFW and a 20/20 Morley Wah Boost and now the Zoom. I messed with quite a few different drives and settings on the wah on the Zoom and I can nail that Bells tone on the intro pretty closely. It helps if you go drive>wah>SVT head overdriven. But you NAILED the "clean" and slightly driven tones for MoP! 🤘. More Zoom videos for sure! It's way too fun to mess around with

Turn up the gains past the reasonable level on the channel 2's and my wah started off a bass wah but has been heavily molested to boost the mids and lows. Tube amps getting overdriven are game changers.
