I’ve got a topwater pdl 106 and my most praised attribute of my kayak is the ability to get into really shallow water and be able to instantly reverse out of trouble whether landing a fish or being blown into a rocky bank. Covering water in the Sportsman looks like loads of fun but after watching a few reviews I’m not completely sold that it works for me. At least on the Sportsman 106 you have instant reverse but lose the spotlock and true north features. Am I wrong?
I just caught this video today, July 7. Thank you so much for providing such an informative video from old town kayaks. I am extremely interested in the 107 for $2500. Unfortunately I live in Branson Missouri and the only dealer within 50 miles of my home does not stock these kayaks. He says the only way that I can see one is to buy one. I’m not in a position to Buy something I’ve never laid eyes on. It is most unfortunate that old town is not more readily available in southern Missouri. Thank you again for your excellent review of these motorized kayaks!
Nik, I know this is an older vid. Question. Out of all the kayaks skiffs, jonny bass, etc. What boat is your current favorite and the one you will probably keep, and never sell. I have my 120 Pdl, with my 45 lb thrust trolling motor. I personally will never upgrade. Not with all my additional accessories, FF, Battery, all my other gear. Basically it's my dream kayak. I cover large lakes, ponds, resevoirs, that are 10 to 20 mies long as they are wide. But I always have a 100 amp hour lithium batteries, and a 50 amp hr for my spare, so I know I'll always get home. And of course i never leave without my paddle, and a cheaper spare stored in my hull, just in case. God bless bro. Stay 🎣 🙏
You should be able to purchase a base model without the mk or the pdl, and have the option to purchase them later. I’d of purchased this kayak a long time ago, if it was modular and upgradable.
When Old Town released this there should have been red carpet... 45 to 50 reporters including all the major news agencies. Fox, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN...Plus I'm thinking a rudder print on Hollywood Blvd. Just sayin.. I love the layout of this Yak... Just picked it up yesterday Nov 21st. I've got the Malone Cart on it's way and I'm working hard to get a roof rack done asap. Some great options out there.
Great video Nick I've been a scriber since the beginning of your Channel I suggest that you suggest to Old town they should make a two-man series kayak so that way you could take a friend fishing or fish with a kid and keep in the spirit of bringing people Outdoors it could be their new Guide Series kayak .one of their electric platforms would be really cool I've been a fan of Old Town products for a long time I love my two-man Guide Series canoe and my Square back scanoe keep up the great work man and if you get a chance you should get up to the lake and catch some these crappie and make you a catch clean and cook video I haven't seen you do one with crappie yet
Their Predator line has a pedal drive model. Same basic boat it seems as this new line. The only difference I see is the little glove box and the soft floor. They say the seats is different but looks about the same. Don't know you may already be aware of it.

What's with the skinny pull lines for up/down for the motor? Correct me if I'm wrong, but unless they're really made of strong/shred resistant material, I see replacing them in less than 2 years.
Is there any model of old town which could switch between motor and pdl? Sometimes，auto pilot is sth like good to have. But switch between pdl and motor would be something even better

As a system operator I'll say this from experience when an engi-nerd over designs something on paper it is bound to fail in the field. So when you break your kill switch key trying to loosen your prop to clear debris in the middle of (insert body of water here) make sure you brought yourself the manual back-up!
Can Minn Kota make a return to launch feature with the trolling motors GPS and the tackle trays next to the seat need bungees for the trays so that way if you were to tip you wouldn't lose your gear
Does the Minn Kota fully integrate with a Humminbird say a Solix? Did someone say there is a dedicated transducer pod under the hull? No interference to a transducer from that Minn Kota?
Didnt like the issue he had (and tried to move away from it quickly) with the motor pulling back up when he tried showing the key for the prop. Looks like a problem already.

I was looking to see if I could notice any difference between some of the differences and I didn't much of a difference. If you look at the Predator PDL and the New Sportsman BigWater PDL the only difference I could see is the Seat. The layout looks the same ,weight is the same, and the price is the same. My guess is that Old Town wants an "official" line for fishing/hunting hence the sportsman name.

I already ordered mine I jus finished the first ever B.A.S.S. pro kayak series on lake logan martin on my topwater pdl 10.6 finished 17th place and qualified for the national championship and I saw it there and loved it now hopefully I will be on it for the Tennessee B.A.S.S. pro kayak tournament I cant wait to see how the ipilot 120 performs on the tournament trail great video I will be doing a review on my channel also anyone wants to check it out its basshoundtv keep up the great work brother

The sportsman is a sweet ride. I had a predator MK and it was a work horse.

He wasn't in the boat, not quite a kayak at this point, so the angle may have been the issue.
Seemed like the prop may have been 90 degrees off the necessary angle for retraction.
Was that a predator PDL in the background in a new color? That's what I'm interested in

motor cord looks like it could be an pain. He had difficulties (hid very well) at least a couple of times.

I wish all the Sportsman lineup has a plate for the drive hull. It would be nice to have the high/low seats on all models too.
