Thanks for the video JC, awsome you have the best attitude and descriptions to inform ur fans about 106 product bote with excellent motor. How much does it cost to general public and how long the warranty.
Great video man. Maybe I missed it but where is the battery go? I didn’t see room behind the seat with 2 coolers. Also I was thinking if you need to give feedback to old town on it maybe suggest a left hand control option. Then you have right hand free for the pole. Just my 2 cents.
The steering capabilities in forward and reverse really has nothing to do with the motor. It steers wide in reverse because the rudder is in the back. Just thought I'd clear that up for you.

I’ve been a Hobie kayak fisherman for many years but swapped out for a 17’ new motor boat. Guess what? Getting in and out of a motor boat without a dock is a pain. You also need two people to hit the water if there is no dock and up here in Mass the availability of docks and trailer parking is extremely limited. I returned the motor boat. Now I’m looking for an electric motor kayak. Maybe I’ve found it. One question. I fly fish and stability is extremely important. Is this yak stable enough to fly fish from? Thanks
The kayak is very stable, but I really think stability when standing is relative to how well a person can balance themselves too. The kayak is very hard to flip, but when standing and with body movements it has some wobble to it when weight is shifted left to right...
Does this Minn Kota have the spotlock feature? If not, is there a way to swap it out for one? This version seems like a better option than the 120 or the 136 because although it's a bit smaller, it's nearly $1500 cheaper which mean i can put that cost towards a Lithium battery, Hummingbird fish finder, bunch of GoPro stuff, gear, rods, etc.
The 106 Sportsman Powered By Minn Kota doesn't have spot lock technology. No, the motors are not interchangeable. The 106 Sportsman Powered By Minn Kota is an excellent fishing vessel. As you saw in the video, it's possible to use the electric motor in current and wind to somewhat lock into a general area to fish. Please don't hesitate to ask more questions. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for watching. I'm still wonder if sponsorship means someone pays you to promote their products or just gives you their products to use. What do you think sponsorship means?
I haven't used many. Out of curiosity, how long does it take you to get everything in the kayak and into the water, from your vehicle? Do you drive a car, SUV, truck? How much do kayaks with that electric motor cost (on average) vs. Pedal drive kayak? I saw on their website around 2500 for the lowest end one. That's a pretty good deal! Did you get yours for cheaper?
It takes me about a half hour on average to get everything unloaded and set up to go fishing. I car-top mine on a 2000 Toyota Solara coupe. My kayak is brand new. As far as an average price on kayaks, I'm not in the kayak sales business and have no idea. All I know is the Old Town kayaks are awesome. I've owned three of them and have loved them all.
@@RadReelingFishing that's awesome though. Worth an hour and a half honestly. Just have to get to your launching area a little early 😁👍. L love the review and the battery life info. . Sometimes i get out ona lake and the wind kicks up on the lake with 2’ waves. Would you be comfortable navigating it in those waves? Thanks
Thanks for watching. No I would not. I always look to the weather reports, wind speed, check current radar conditions before I go kayak fishing. I've been kayak fishing for about a year now and due to my looking ahead at the day's weather I've avoided any type of conditions you are describing. With that said, rolling waves are different than white cap choppy waves. These yaks are very low to the water. Slow rolling waves can be handled, high wind white caps would produce a very wet and possibly cold unpleasant experience, at least in my opinion. Years ago I fished on a lake almost every weekend that was seven miles across. I had a 12' long boat with a 9.5 motor on it. That lake would produce the kind of waves you are talking about. I NEVER went fishing in bad conditions and if I saw a storm in the distance that posed danger, I'd head to the house immediately. I'd tell anyone to avoid finding themselves in bad weather conditions in a kayak. Be smart out there and use common sense always. I hope this helps...Thanks for commenting.
I always wear rain gear or a dry suit when I paddle. Getting wet is not the problem for me. I am concerned about the stability of the craft to handle waves and not dump me in the water multiple times. Thanks for your response
Hey got a quick question about the throttle, I guess they are made super sensitive because I can just tap mine and it will speed up slow down etc. Is it supposed to click or anything to let you know its in neutral ? The only way I can tell is by sliding it in the middle and looking at my fish finder at my speed. In your video you are using the butt of the rod to move the throttle around and I thought I heard a click or that could just have been the rod hitting it. On another note the reverse on it works great compared to the mounted motor i used on old 106 Kayak. I drifted up into some grass and didnt want to get hung up in it so I popped it in reverse and it pulled me right out of muck without a problem.
When you put the throttle in neutral you should clearly be able to tell it's in that position. In the video it's very evident that there's a solid neutral position with a slight click sound and a minor locking in place of the handle. I time-marked the video for you so you can watch it again: ua-cam.com/video/_D0YpSttFOw/v-deo.html
@@RadReelingFishing I`ll check it out when I go out Friday maybe I just wasnt paying attention to it, it was only my second trip since I have had it. I was out for like four hours and was just stunning I think I tried pinching myself to make sure I wasnt dreaming..LOL

The Topwater 120 PDL seat has bottom and back fabric adjustments for firmness. Yes, I thought the seat was comfortable. I used to fish out of mine for 8 to ten hours in a day and never thought I was uncomfortable due to the seat. Now granted, there isn't any cushy padding on it. Maybe it's not so comfy, but I was just so focused on reeling in fish that I didn't notice, ha ha...

@@RadReelingFishing I`ll be going out tomorrow but Ijust checked it without the motor or battery plugged in and there is is no clicking or anything when its centered it feels the same all the forward and back and middle. Maybe I should contact old town about it. It doesnt seem to be causing an issue but it would make it easier to know that i am actually in idle.
@@RadReelingFishing Yeah so if I pay attention there is a small ping but not a click I can just barely hear and feel it when i put it in neutral.
@@shark619ifyI found another video where I was trouble shooting the 106 when I didn't have a battery connection. You can clearly hear the click of the throttle control. I time-marked it for you: ua-cam.com/video/MVb2aTC0O3Y/v-deo.html
are you able to replace the motor drive with the pedal drive if need to ?
Great question! I wanna know too
@@king4brisbane you can not
nice vid, interesting kayak. I run an outback but this looks sweet. Do you trailer it?
Thanks for watching. I car top mine.
Great review but why does it have to be registered?
In Fl. electric motor vessels must be registered.
Well I live in Lakeland so I guess I get to experience this first hand lol thank you for the info!
I think I've finally gone crazy enough, I'm saving up for this kayak
i realize it's kinda off topic but does anyone know of a good place to stream newly released tv shows online?
@Dominik Jericho Try flixzone. Just google for it =)
@Caden Milo Yup, been using FlixZone for months myself :)
@Caden Milo thanks, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I really appreciate it !
@Dominik Jericho no problem xD
Is the seat comfortable in the old town topwater 120 pdl? I heard from other you tubers that it’s not
The Topwater 120 PDL seat has bottom and back fabric adjustments for firmness.
Thanks for your video! Question on the battery. Would you mind sharing what kind you bought and what kind of charger you have for it? I'm waiting for my 106 to come in and I'm going back and forth on what battery to get. Thanks for any suggestions!
Here's the link to the battery I purcahsed: shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/autocraft-marine-battery-group-size-27m-675-cca-27hm/10890145-P?searchTerm=group+27+marine+deep+cycle
@@RadReelingFishing Thank you so much! Just bought one. Can't wait to get my boat! Your videos were extremely helpful in pushing me to get the 106 so thank you!
@@katiemaneen131 Thanks for letting me know. I can only imagine how excited you are, woo hoo! I'm sure Old Town would appreciate a review on their website after you put it to good use.
@@RadReelingFishing Absolutely will! I have an Old Town Heron 9xt so this is going to be a huge upgrade for me. Just happy to stay in the Old Town family!
make some vids ill watch em!!
You are Awesome Brother!!!
I want this but I drove a Nissan altima would it work
Here's what I do: ua-cam.com/video/mlcEFOq3lDY/v-deo.html
how does standing up in this compare to the 120 stability wise?
Thanks for asking. You probably found the answer already within the video. Here's my stability video on the 106 Sportsman as well: ua-cam.com/video/IFMm5ShIXbA/v-deo.html
@@RadReelingFishing yes thank you...got ahead of myself there. Great vid(s) by the way. Any experience with the Native Slayer Max 12.5?
Hey I have a 75 AH battery, how long do you think it will last?
Thanks for watching. This motor is rated for a 27 class battery. Make sure you're using the correct one. I don't know how long yours will last. I have a 105 amp.
Link to your battery please !
I purchased it from Advanced Auto Parts. It's a 27 class marine battery, 105 Amp Hr. I paid about $100 for it.
Hi, I am thinking about buying an old town 106. I am worried about the seat. Have you ever felt the battery box under your butt? Is it comfortable?
The seat is taught enough that it doesn't touch the battery box. Thanks for watching.
Awesome video! I just purchased my Sportsman 106 PDL, did I make the wrong purchase? 😂🤣😅
The PDL kayks from Old Town are awesome. You're going to love it.
I want one thanks for the video.
You shouldve shown how you got on it.
Thank you for another great video!!
You are welcome. Quality products deserve quality videos for sure.
JC YOU HAVE AND Awesome 👍 personality keep up the good work make more snook fishing video
Awesome video!
Awesome review!!!!
Awesome video, thank you!
How does it paddle if you needed to?
I haven't paddled much, only to do some quick maneuvering when the electric motor didn't suit. Having the foot pedal ruder controls I'm sure will help tremendously if I ever have to paddle a long distance.
@@RadReelingFishing - Thanks! Do you know if these are legal is kayak tournaments?
Use sand fleas for the sheepshead cheaper then shrimp
I agree. All of the beaches are closed though, can't get any now.
how hard is to load and unload?
It's a good workout. Watch this video please ua-cam.com/video/mlcEFOq3lDY/v-deo.html I use the exact method.
Can I ask how much is the kayak?
You can get the pricing on Old Town kayaks here: bit.ly/oldtown_sportsman_radreeling
Thank you so much
How much do they run
You will get an accurate price here: bit.ly/oldtown_sportsman_radreeling
Mantap
....the pedal kayaks don't have spot lock...so Old Town wins hands down for fishing.
You go boy
If this had spot lock I would buy it.

@@RadReelingFishing Too big for what I want. I really like how compact this one is.
@@russdennis7026 It is not as compact as you think it is. You have to see it and handle it in person to appreciate just how big it is. It's very heavy at 104lbs and that's without the battery. I would suggest to demo one.
Like the review better than that ray. Lol
Sooooo cooooooolllll!!!!!!!!
Awesome video
I’d rather it do a slow turn in reverse than put me in the bushes
Make sure you are staying 6 feet away from those fishy !!!!!!
Ha ha...some lady in the grocery store the other day in the line turned around, gave me an ugly look, pointed at me and said "six feet". I laughed, said I did cabinet work for years and I estimate I'm 6' 3" away from you. She then glared at me with an even meaner look. Shheeesssa.
FL chix are crazy as heck. LMAO
@@RadReelingFishing *Well JC... maybe the Lady at the G Store think that keeping two yards between you and her means two residential lots of separation?* ..gw
When do we get offshore vids bro
Not sure. I'll have to connect with some offshore kayak fishermen to do that and at the moment I don't know anyone.
JC put that idea out there in your next video...let the channel network for you
Worse Kayak ever! I own one DO NOT BUY ONE! You have been warned!
Take that kayak over 6 knots and it will FILL full of water! Where the engine goes in! It acts like a water collector. I have replaced the sit the Foot pattle. Iv replaced the power control 2x, The Right cable in the first year of ownership! You have to buy the drain plugs And if you read the warranty it suxs Im very unhappy with mine Been trying to sell it for 6 months! This Kayaks SUX Yes it will hold alot! But it will not hold up over time! The foot steering system points up! And when you're in the seat your feet point down! A change of 2 to 3 in a change in angle alone would make a huge improvement! And backing up Yes turning no! I added a gas eng and I can not go faster than 6 knots the Boat fills with water and the faster you go the worse it gets! to a point it will brake your LOCK holding the mount in place! I have approached Old town many times about this flaw. They totally ignore me! At least they send all the parts including a chair which is made in CHINA And now the warranty is up and the Power controller is out for the 3rd time! And its coming out of my pocket!
