In this Blitzkrieg Bop guitar lesson, I will show you how to play all of the chords for this classic by the Ramones.
The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.
Guitarist Johnny Ramone pounds out a couple of barre chord fueled chord progressions in this quick 2:14 song, and the results are pure punk rock gold.
I will demonstrate each chord progression in the order that each appeared on the original recording.
I will also talk briefly about Johnny Ramones aggressive rapid downstroke picking style.

Johnny Ramone only played down strokes and barre chords... crazy, but amazing none the less. Loved the Ramones growing up and still do.
He actually did always play the full 6 string barre chords too, with distortion its almost unnecessary as carl alludes to but johnny really did play only full barre chords. Its not easy, lol, it requires a lot of stamina especially since he used all downstrums....
I've been playing this one in bands for decades...Always a good end of the night tune when everyone is good and juiced up..👍🎶👍

Another good Ramones song to do a lesson on is “I wanna be sedated” or my personal favorite “California Sun”
“…Sedated” with the ‘hardest’ guitar solo ever 🤣
and California Sun is a cover of The Rivieras (but still a great tune)

weird fact time: did you know that the solo in i wanna be sedated is just the same note played over and over again exactly 65 times?

Love the Ramones, Johnny played only downstrokes barre chords , the songs are simple, but try playing a few of them back to back and your hands and wrist will be hurting , it takes a lot of stamina to play this style.
Live they played almost twice as fast as the studio recordings, amazing.
The only critique I would have is for the Johnny Ramone style the first chord is strummed once for one measure and then the fast downstrokes.
Finally a tutorial with that b minor chord! And actually johnny played the "A" shape barre chords as 2nd inversions, so you fret the low e string too.

I was in a Ramones tribute band for like 6 years, and one thing I noticed that Johnny Ramone did was for the D and E chords he also included the low E string (so essentially a D5/A and E5/B), giving the chords a fuller sound.
Excellent! Glad you got the B minor right. Too many lessons teach it as a B major or B power chord. Actually, too many lessons teach the whole song as power chords, which is just wrong!
