Thanks, Rusty! You're a superb teacher. Do you switch to a softer pick for this kind of rhythm playing?
@@nikosantikythera2422 I always use the same fender medium pick. Just using a cleaner sound. Happy Sunday 🙏
learned more in 5 mins than in months of other lessons. Brilliant explanation and style of teaching

Thanks Rusty, as a bassist / vocalist, I played Long Train Runnin' in top 40 bar bands many times over the years when I was a full time musician. Never got to play Sultans of Swing though. These two songs are 2 of my all time favorites. I haven't played guitar much in recent years, so I'm finally trying to develop new and better habits and regain some hand muscle memory. Your videos are very helpful and I appreciate it ! These two songs are like mini-guitar clinics that have so much to teach in each one.
You’re welcome, Jim. Those are two of my favorites also! Hours of fun here for rhythm and lead! I had a blast just making the video. I appreciate the comment and enjoy the rest of your weekend.👍

I really like your presentation. It’s clear, thoughtful and so very useful. Something I find interesting is a lot of this stuff I have discovered over the years just by ear, trial and error. You do a very good job of explaining why it works.

Thanks. Isn't that an Eb minor 7?
Oh, wait, my bad. It's Eb, not E. Great lesson for really breaking these moves down to their simplest elements. You're one of the best teachers on the Tubes-

It’s such a great tune! Everybody loves it! Thanks for checking in Derek🤛
Thanks!
I appreciate this support to my channel! Nephew. Thanks so much! I hope you have a rockin week ahead.🤛
You can’t play lead if you can’t play rhythm… an excellent example of this is Jimi Hendrix he can switch from one to the other in a micro second … also with these gypsy guitar players .. and those iconic songs you’ve showed what stands out is the rhythm embellished with some nice riffs … Mark Knopfler knows …. So good examples of Doobie Bros and Dire straits … great how you analyses this and made a lesson out of it … the pinky thing …. Yes it’s a subtle thing to color the chord shapes , Hendrix does this a lot .. I think it’s called an add 9 chord … and playing those riffs using the chord tones is something that always works and sounds good …. Talking about rhythm, I’m diving into flamenco [electric, I don’t have a Spanish or classical guitar] have a listen if you like … and thanks for this excellent tutorial 👍⚡️
So many great players, mix, rhythm, and lead together! And we love those players! Thanks for checking out the video. Talk to you soon John.👍
Cracking lesson 👍
Thanks so much Andrew!!! ✌️
@@rustysguitar1 you're welcome 😊👍

This is some fun stuff to practice on for sure! The right and left hand coordination is not easy to sync together. I was good to hear from you and enjoy the rest of your weekend Paul.🤛
Don't know what it is but seem to be learning more from your lessons then elsewhere.love the rhythm stuff.god bless.
I’m glad you’re getting something from the lessons! Thanks a lot for the comment👍
Thank you for another great lesson! You are gifted from God to teach, and much help to me! Have a blessed day!!
You’re welcome, Richard! I’m glad you like the content! Blessings to you also my brother🙏
Great lesson. You know you should be a guitar instructor. 😊. Thank you.
That sounds like a good profession!!! 🎸 I appreciate the comment Garett! Thanks for checking out the video 🤛
So fun to learn. It was so helpful and I have a lot to work on! Thank you, Rusty!
How are you recording your videos? The audio sounds so clear!
I’m glad you found some things to work on that I had in the video. I just use the Scarlet i2 interface directly into the IPhone. I have an SM 58 microphone overhead plugged in to the interface. And I go direct with my Revv G 20 amp into the interface. Very simple shut up. But you have to make sure the levels are good as you record because you can’t change anything. Thanks for checking out my videos.👍
Great video, like how you've broken down the Sultans of swing usingvhammer ons and pull offs😅
Some great tunes! And fun to play! Thanks for checking out the video👍
Hello im from Mexico. Thanks Fords this videos
Thanks Carlos! Much appreciated!👍
Nice lesson Rusty, i love the chords G minor 7, C Minor 7, Eb7, D 7 was playing around with them and love them, made up my own little thing, plus tried the doobie brothers song also.very cool, and i love.Sultans of Swing.keep bringin lessons and ill keep watching,
Plus going through your older vids as Well.well not this second lol but last night and stuff 😂 and going foward
I like the part where you did the Eb7 then slid your index finger over to the 11th fret on he low E but kept the other fingers the same, i found that after that the C sharp 7 i guess it would be called, then D minor 7 then lift you fingers off only leave index finger barring the .b g d strings 9th fret then hitting a B major chord sounds really nice.
I love the sound of those chords also! I’m glad you’re having fun with my lessons! Thanks a lot for your support👍
The best.
I’m glad to hear that. Thanks.👍
👍👍👍
Thanks bro😎
Rusty said at 4:10, “not an easy task.” I laugh every night until the tears come.
Hey Cathy. I know many players struggle to hammer on and pull off these chord shapes. So that’s the phrase that came out. I’m sure it was hundreds of hours of practice to flow through these chord shapes. I like your entertaining comments Cathy! Thanks ❤️
Rusty, Don't think I ever thanked you for these great lessons. If you haven't already done so, could you go over any effects you are using when you give the lesson? Thanks again.
You’re welcome! I have fun making these lessons, myself! In most of my videos I have been using the Revv G 20 amp set clean and driving it with the Revv tilt overdrive pedal. Also some reverb from the Strymon BigSky. I appreciate all your support Michael. Thanks.👍
Hey Rusty your vids are amazing, thanks! You had one where you had a d major pentatonic run (I think you had the scale tabbed out and it was one of those "lightbulb" moments for me. Do you remember which vid that was?
If so can you paste me the link (I can't remember which one it was)? Thanks!
I really appreciate your support to my channel! I have done several videos with the D major pentatonic scale. So I honestly can’t recall the one you referring to. But thank you so much for taking the time to watch my videos. Means a lot to me! Thanks again bud.👍
Doobie Bro's - awesome rhythm guitar, also enjoy the classic bass and drum break in after the rhythm. Today's music needs more rhythm guitar, and a few less lead guitar hero's, me thinks.
I love playing rhythm just as much as lead that’s for sure. Playing rhythm actually helps me be a better lead player. Thanks for the comment and I appreciate you checking out the lesson 👍
Great lesson Rusty. I'm currently trying to improve my funk strumming. I'm mainly struggling to get my right hand loose enough to get the strumming up to speed. Do you have any practice routines that might help me with that? Doesn't even need to be musical, I take anything at that point...
Cheers,
Martin
Thanks Martin! This rhythm and funk rhythm is all about timing. And the right hand movement. I showed it in the video, but you need to practice with a metronome and mute the strings with the left hand, while the right hand is playing the up-and-down groove. Then you can add a chord triad or double stop to that muted rhythm. Also, I think it’s important to practice everything in a musical way. Catch you later Martin.👍
@rustysguitar1 Hi Rusty, I know this much, but for me, it's a problem of always having some kind of tension in my strumming hand. Even though I kind of think I'm relaxing my strumming hand, I know and feel it isn't. Like this, I can't get up to speed. So I'm looking for exercise that might help me get rid of the tension, but so far, I didn't have any success.
Cheers,
Martin
This is awesome.. something I WANT to be good at.. the barre hammer-ons and the rhythm are difficult for me... hand cramps after a few minutes.
I hope you keep working on it! You will have to build up strength! Thank you for your comment and enjoy your Sunday 🙏
@@rustysguitar1 Slow and steady!! Thank you!
Hi, I hit the like button and it went down ? that's not usual. Given the quality of your input, I would expect bigger numbers !
Hopefully it keeps going up! I appreciate all your support, Paul! Thanks and enjoy your Sunday🙏
Your welcome.
Really great stuff! But what the heck is the "ruut" he keeps referring to???
I’ve had a lot of people make fun of the way I say it. It’s the ROOT note 😂 Thanks for checking out the video👍
When I do any bar chord the G string is always muted if my middle finger is not on it. There must be a technique thing I’m not doing cause I can squeeze so hard and it still mutes out!
Advice?
Hey Jeff, you’re not alone. I know many players struggle with getting all of the strings to ring out. What is thing that might help us make sure that your first finger that is barring the strings is more straight up and down, instead of at an angle. But this could be a good topic for upcoming lesson. Thanks a lot Jeff for your support.🤛
@@rustysguitar1 that would be a great lesson!
Thanks Rusty
You have so many good videos. It's hard to find a place to start.
Won't you be my neighbor?. :)
So much information. Sometimes it can be overwhelming! Just keep moving forward and have fun! If we were neighbors, we would be jamming together that’s for sure! Thanks for checking out my videos.👍
You check out guitar rusty, he knows all the chords...
I love that tune and that line!!! Thanks buddy 👍
I have problem with that, I have eagle claws hands , my hand doesn’t help much , BUT Im trying 😂😂😂😂
Sorry to hear that! Maybe you can try using only the D-G-B strings with these rhythms, instead of the full bar chord. Keep working on it my brother.😎
Thanks!
I thank you for your continued support to my channel this way! I greatly appreciate it! Talk to you soon Jon 👍
My pleasure
