Hi Willem! You should try the Olympus AF 1 Twin. It's a point and but it has 2 lenses! Like a smartphone! they are a 35mm f3.5 and a 70mm f5.6, so pretty fast for a point and shoot! It doesn't cost so much more and it's defently my favourite point and shoot camera.
Hey man love your channel! You are one of those who inspired me to get back to film photography...I think you would enjoy the work of an Italian photographer called Luigi Ghirri, it really fits some of your aestethics!! Let me know!!
It would be cool to see how you edit the GFX images to fit in with your film shots. Do you prefer any of the film sims on the GFX when you're out shooting? Thanks for the video - also loving the Wheelem channel!
I, personally, have been working on matching the settings on my Fuji to whichever film camera I have and matching the exposure to the film after I'm done developing. I've about got a Pan F recipe nearly perfect, and am currently working on HP5 with various pushes. Moving to Delta next, then Ferrania P30 in the summer. Unfortunately these things are SO hard to get done in-camera and most things almost require a desktop image editor. I'm not just going by look, I do matching grey card shots to calibrate middle-gray.
Love what you said about appreciating a cheap point and shoot, and putting that time, resources, and attention into just going out and finding wonderful things to capture. All this stuff we do is just a reason to go out and find things in the world!
Recommending the cheap point and shoots was such a homie move. So many ppl are chasing the expensive stuff, it so reassuring to have someone like you recommend against spending $1k on something that can break 🙏🙏
Whoa, incredible photos from your point-and-shoots! The one at 06:28 is just wow! I love the one at 7:37 made with a pro camera also. Maybe your next formal on-line class needs to be what you look for when walking around and how you see, and then compose, these incredible compositions. Years of experience and very good taste, I guess, but we all hope you have some secrets to share. You also mentioned something that could be a topic for one of these videos. Once upon a time, you did a UA-cam tutorial on editing film photos in Lightroom, but you mentioned something a skill here that video didn't cover, which is how you match the look of digital and film images so well. I bought your "Walking Svalbard" book back in the day, and I remember you're saying that you used your Canon for a few of the photos when it got so cold out the Mamiya 6x7 would no longer function. I was amazed how every photo in that book blends so perfectly, in spite of the very different capture formats. How you edit your digital captures in general is maybe a broader, better topic. Okay, aside from my wishlist of future video ideas, it's always great to be inspired by your work in all of these productions. Looking forward to that new engine start, too! Cheers, Willem!
I do agree how expensive point and shoots are glamorized. I just got into film and I was fixated on purchasing a Contax as my first point and shoot. I ended up going with the good ol' Olympus Stylus 105 and I could not be happier. I plan on purchasing a Canon AE-1 as my first official 35mm camera and even then the total doesn't even come close to what a Contax costs.
i found a yashica t4 at a thrift store for $5. I sold it for $500 & carry on with my old olympus point n shoot. Next to no difference in photo quality. Spent a good chunk of that money on film.
I liked what you said about cheap point & shoots. I have a few cameras like that from companies like Panasonic and Vivitar, not well known for their film cameras. I found them either from thrifting or my family used them in the 1990’s. It feels like striking gold when a thrift store has a film camera.
how much is film + developing and scanning in the states? Here in Germany its like 15 for a good roll and then another 20 for the rest. Film is not really worth it anymore with cameras like the xe4 that cost maybe 1000€ and Kodak just recently announced that its even gonna get more expensive. Ill use it for the special vacation but for allday shooting, film is dead for noobs like me
I quite often find myself using the Pentax 6x7 with only a 165mm F2.8 lens. Which is even longer than 150. Quite frankly I like *85*mm equivalent lenses. Makes it easy to isolate subjects from their background.
Hey Willem, I really appreciate your videos and the fact that you are talking so detailed about it. But one thing I noticed was, that you never really mention how you scan the negatives. To me it seems that there is much more to it than just taking a photo with a camera, especially today, where everything gets digitalised. So it would be really cool to see a video about that. Or the difference between a lab and home scan!
I get asked ALL THE TIME how do I start or where do I start with film. My response every time- thrift a point n shoot, don't spend more then $50 dollars on a camera, grab some cheap fuji film and test some rolls out.
I recently picked up a Vivitar PZ 3560 DB point-and-shoot from a thrift store for $7.99 myself, and I am planning on going out with it and using a roll of Kentmere Pan 400. When it comes to film cameras, I bought most of the film cameras that I have at my local Goodwill, including my Pentax Super Program, with SMC Pentax-A 50mm F/1.7, which was around $15 or so
I am really sad that i sold my Mamiya 7 in 2016 to buy a Pentax K1. The Mamiya meanwhile more then doubled it´s price. Also loved shooting with it. Had both the 70mm and the 150mm.
After watching this video I bought an Olympus zoom for when I go on trips and everyday use, and I’ve had so much fun with it. It cost me $20 and the photos come out great. Thanks
do you plan on making long weekend products more available in the EU ? I love the products but its kind of annoying paying 50% of the total price for just shipping.
I totally agree with you, as I have just Nikon's AF P/S cameras, A Nikon Action Touch, A Nikon Lite Touch, and A Nikon Tele-Touch 800 in all are very SHARP Photos, I am very please that I can still use these models in different scenes, and weather shooting, and all I need is just a simple shoulder bag to carry one or two of these babies, a magazine, and be aware in what I be using, and shooting, and pre-visualize in how I use it. Thanks for your videos...
Yo please consider making that sample colorway of the tote an actual product. The black for some reason just makes it way more aesthetically pleasing for day to day use. A full black colorway like the smaller bags would be cool too, but really love that mix of the two styles.
Ciao Willem, I smiled seeing your point-and-shoot photos, the running guy etc. Funny to say, those are the best ones in my view from the whole reportage :-)
Oooh this inspired me to take out the 100mm lens i bought a while ago for one project and never used again. I also picked up a Ricoh shotmaster for 10 bucks and have really enjoyed not feeling afraid to take it everywhere like you said! The 35/70mm zoom is fun too. Also could I ask what strobe light you used for the hiking with Kevin part? Thanks, long time viewer, love your videos always. Glad to see you've gotten a lot of following for your work, you're really great!
I recently watched a video that a pro photographer posted that was titled something like why are your images average.. So this guy bragged up about what people do wrong and how to fix there average photos lol.. The start of his video was so loud I about woke the house and then his talking audio was so low I had to turn it up to hear him.. It makes me laugh to see people telling you how to make your photos and videos better when there photos and videos are not that great lol. I hope the guy sees this post and watches your videos and learns something from you'r fantastic video editing and how you can take a 10 dollar point and shoot film camera and take the images you do .. Thanks for the inspiration
"if it breaks its not the end of the world" is so spot on. The more expensive camera i Bring the less fun photos i take. Expensive gear, can be stressfull to own.... But, that Nikon 35TI just looks so good though....
Kevin Nealon is a gem! Glad you got to do a shoot of him. There was something so special about the SNL 1.0 and 1.2 crew (1.2 because it introduced Bill Murray!), an act SNL never could follow.
I am missing your RZ's! 😢 The PeakDesign Tripod is great, I've bought the carbon fiber one during the kickstarter campaign for the price of the aluminum one today's price.
I love your thoughts about hyped compact cameras... if I may I would like to ask you what flash you used for those outdoor pictures and if you recommend it for several cases, thank you willem
I am happy to see you mention the GFX camera. I would like to see you use it more for your personal photography... not just not professional assignments. What do you say?
Great advice on the point and shoot! I commend you for encouraging it. If more of the film photography influencers would steer absolute novices to a good solid point and shoot the novice would have a better experience and in turn a longer lasting relationship with film photography. I would be less than enthralled if I bought an AE-1 with light leaks, a squeaky shutter for prime $$ and then bought a roll of Portra for $17 and processing for $18 only to have a roll of crap photos. Drop some fresh Superia or Gold in a solid point and shoot and be successful.
I paid £7 for a cracked Konica A4 (big mini) and it goes to gigs, the beach, nights out, football games. I never worry about it yet it produces really nice shots, misses focus less than my contax and cost lest than most of the film I use in it. Also its so slim it fits in any pocket. Also I think it looks cooler having a taped together camera, than a shiny expensive one... not that looking cool matters
Do you use the peak design plate that comes with the tripod on the Mamiya 7? I just got it and was wondering if I should get an arca swiss plate for the Mamiya...
Hi Willem! Will you guys be releasing any more color options for the Long Weekend gear this year? I love the structure and design but want a color that matches my style more. Congrats on another great year! :)
I like what you said about the point and shoots. I just got a Olympus xa for $35 and it’s inspired me to go out an shoot more. I have nicer slr cameras but I always free a bit awkward walking around with a big camera and so I don’t actually end up taking any photos. But the xa is so small and is so inconspicuously that I actually want to go out and take photos! It’s actually my first point and shoot and I love it already
I have the same opinion on point & shoot cameras, more people shouldn't confine themselves to only the highest spec model. It's the photographer not the gear, that makes a great photo.
Yes! I had to start off by making a list of all the things that I needed in a camera. When I found that camera - it was way out of my budget so I had to make compromises not knowing what I actually needed in that camera because I had never done any photography.. I just picked the things that felt important. That same approach has been leading me in a really great direction.
babe wake up, new film photo video dropped
Corn ball
Cringe comment
@@yabadoo8317 no way 🥴
I love that I see this comment on every video now
@@yabadoo8317 what does that mean?
Been using an Olympus Zoom211 for a few years now and I love it!

Cheap point and shoot cameras are the best!
I really want the Long Weekend Tote but the shipping and taxes to the UK are more than the bag itself 😢
GFX all the way
Hey man love your channel! You are one of those who inspired me to get back to film photography...I think you would enjoy the work of an Italian photographer called Luigi Ghirri, it really fits some of your aestethics!! Let me know!!
Thanks for the love, Willem! Glad you dig the tripod, and even more glad it helps you put dope content out in the world.
It would be cool to see how you edit the GFX images to fit in with your film shots. Do you prefer any of the film sims on the GFX when you're out shooting? Thanks for the video - also loving the Wheelem channel!
I would also be curious about this.

Hi Will, nice stuff. Clear up bit a of a controversy. Are you using that umbrella backwards when you were shooting Kevin?
A lot of digital gear for this year huh? 🤔
Good luck with your New Photography Equipment because you deserve so much more! and Happy New Year 2023.😊
Broke my leg running to the comment section 😭

Lets make the year worthwhile! looking forward to see the results and new projects that you have lined up!
What lens did you use on the gfx for the Kevin shoot?
No front but I guess we‘re all so happy you got a new haircut😂
Can you do a review of the Konica AiBORG?
can we see the photo taken at 7:29 in the video anywhere? would love to get a print of it 0v0
And just like that, cheap point and shoots were no more.
‚I paid 10$ at the thrift store‘ is the new ‚I paid 5$ at the thrift store‘
The colors were “sharp”?
fujifilm = making $$$
Dude you are awesome! And love your photos!

I’m so convinced that more and more ppl will be buying a GFX after the shitty price hike Kodak delivered. And I’m one of them.

Can you take me with you on a shoot, you can just fit me in that spacious and comfortable Long Weekend Gear bag! I'll be quiet :)
i got my younger sister into this channel and she could care less about photography. she gets excited every time now lol.

Hey Willem, loved your "last days of summer" video and was curious if you shot on the fx3 in slog-3 when you shot it all? Cheers.
Yes :)
Another great video today!
I expect an introduction to GFX and Old Lens! 😇
Do you use the peak design plate that comes with the tripod on the Mamiya 7? I just got it and was wondering if I should get an arca swiss plate for the Mamiya...

Do you think the GFX 50R with like the 50mm fits in the Santa Fe Bag?
I like what you said about the point and shoots. I just got a Olympus xa for $35 and it’s inspired me to go out an shoot more. You are kind of youtuber who don't make me feel small instead that I can also do it with what I have.
Hello Willem, your videos are very inspiring, even for those who don't do analogue photography like me!
Hug from Portugal 💪
I got A Vivita point and shoot for £15 and love it over other cameras I have
man that photo of kevin nealon and the cactus made me laugh out loud. Really great photo.
Shhhh, stop telling people about cheap point and shoots, i wanna gate keep them
I have the same opinion on point & shoot cameras, more people shouldn't confine themselves to only the highest spec model. It's the photographer not the gear, that makes a great photo.
Thank you for inspiring. Can’t wait to see what this year brings for you!
man who is your film dealer i cant even afford a fomapan 100
it really is kinda wild how easy it is to lug those peak design tripods around
dope!! can u link the car mount?
That goofy haircut tho. Love it.
You need a Holga 120. Amazing Camera
Yes!

the sand dune photo is really amazing
Succes in 2023 met je mooie films Willem 👏🏽👏🏽
I wish I had the money to keep shooting film
That very last LW plug was funny af lol
Really digging the channel. Did a deep dive into your videos and they’re wonderful. But question? Are you slowly evolving into Oliver Tree 😂
Yes
