  • Quick visual on how the sill plate and kick panels clip in place so no one breaks the plastic tabs on 2013 Tacoma.

    Tacoma Gen 2
Main takeaway: remove the lower dash to find your brake harness plug. This is the plastic piece where your buttons for the left/right side mirror adjustment buttons are.
@mike - You are the real hero we needed! I found your video after I spent 45 min trying to find the factory brake harness plug; wished I would have seen your video before I spent all that time.

Thanks very much for posting this on UA-cam. I have a 2014 Tacoma 4x4 and was trying to install my brake controller but could not find the connector that Toyota stuffed into a most difficult place to get it. I thought my truck didn't have that connector until I watched this video. Took more than a day and with a lot of scraping of my hand but was successful in getting this job done after seeing your detailed video.

Thank you Mike. Nobody else explained how to get to the hidden thumb screw. You saved my sanity and possibly my marriage!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting your vid. I watched 4 vids prior to yours and they SUCKED - offered NO info as to how to take panels off, where the attachment points were of were to find the elusive plug. Your vid was perfect and THE most informative. Thanks for posting. I can say I never would have found that damn plug without it.

I'm upgrading the crappy thin wiring in my 2012 Taco, in the process of upgrading the crappy OEM sound system. Your vid will save me a lot of heart ache.

BEST video I've seen on the subject...finding the factory connector is the hardest part. Ours was tucked behind one of the main harnesses...your description of the colors of the wiring and it's visual appearance made this possible. great job!

Nice vid. I’m had a local aftermarket shop install this in my 2013 Taco, but I showed them this video first so I wouldn’t end up with 8 hours of labor charges!

Wish my internet was good enough to watch a 60FPS in high def. This didn't need to be 60FPS. Good info though in blurry lower def.
