  • The United States Navy, Sea, Air, and Land Teams, commonly known as Navy SEALs, are the U.S. Navy's primary special operations force. Among the SEAL' s main functions are conducting small-unit special operation missions in maritime, jungle, urban, arctic, mountainous, and desert environments. SEALs are typically ordered to capture or kill high-level targets, or to gather intelligence behind enemy lines. SEAL team personnel are hand selected, highly trained, and possess a high degree of proficiency in direct action and special reconnaissance, among other tasks like sabotage, demolition, and intelligence gathering. Known as the deadliest sniper in US military history, the name Chris Kyle was unfamiliar to many, until after the box office smash, American Sniper, directed by Clint Eastwood. So, who was the real Chris Kyle? Written and Hosted by Mike Droberg. Forgotten History is a 10th Legion Pictures Production.

A minor point....at 2:26 it says he and his father hunted deer, pheasant and quail with a 30-06 rifle. Deer - fine, but I don't think too many people would hunt pheasant and quail with a 30-06. Maybe he did but that would be a very odd weapon to use for bird hunting.

My ex was a prior enlisted Recon Marine when he went through Marine Basic School (TBS) as a 2ndLt in 1986. After Infantry Officer's Course (IOC), he did some time with a regular infantry company as a platoon commander at Camp Lejeune, NC. After that, he was assigned to Second Force Recon as a platoon commander. At the time (about 1989) Force Recon was a part of 2nd Surveillance and Reconnaissance and Intelligence Group (SRIG), along with Radio Bn and ANGLICO, as well as some other units.
He and his platoon were attached to a Marine Expeditionary Unit, Special Operations Capable (MEU SOC) for an overseas deployment. That was how things were done back in the day.
When he was first enlisted (1977-1982) there was no Force Recon in the Marines anymore. For some reason they were disbanded as some point after Vietnam. There was only Regular Battalion Recon and Deep Recon Platoon (DRP) during that time frame. My ex was in DRP. Force Recon was reinstituted in the Marine Corps at some point between 1982 and 1989, while he was in college or in other Marine units.
So...technically, there were Force Recon Units who were Special Operations Capable at the time Kyle enlisted. He could have joined one of these units, had he chosen to do so.
    Semper Fidelis. RIP Kyle! ❤🇺🇲🙏

Talking crap on the dead isn’t my cup of tea normally but this guys whole story was questionable at best…sorry but Carlos Hathcock is the BEST AMERICAN SNIPER PERIOD …Chris Kyle was operating in an urban target rich environment with all kinds of support …Hathcock was in the jungles of Vietnam by himself (or with one spotter) for days sometimes even weeks at a time. Unlike Kyle, Hathcock was fighting a professional uniformed military adversary with counter sniper and recon missions…Hathcock would routinely stalk and kill targets deep in enemy territory (sometimes hiding literally under their feet) …sorry but Chris Kyle’s story is mostly propaganda during a conflict that’s rife with falsehood

I didn't know him very well. I was on Shark Base and shook hands with him once or twice. There were people who called him a Legend and there were people who spoke ill of him. Pretty standard for people to have different reactions. Ramadi was an absolutely crazy place and I was lucky to survive. I take issue with the common story of him killing Juba as Juba was actually killed by Force Recon Marine AJ Pasciutti. This is well documented. I don't know if he purposely took credit for that or if Navy brass attributed the kill to him against his will. Eddie Routh was not a combat vet, did not have combat experience (IMO) and did not have PTSD in the classical sense. He was a mechanic who came to Ramadi after the fighting ended. he never left the wire and we never had Indirect Fire on the base while he was there. Not once. I wonder if he told a big story to the VA and then was given a cocktail of meds that made his mental condition worse.

Sure sounds like it but for all you judging, Kyle saw more and did more than 99.5% of the American public in its entire 200+ year history. Few alive ever walked in his shoes and performed at a high level during a life threatening situation, on a daily basis, for weeks on end. Living like that definitely brings out some odd behaviors and for that Im going to remember Chris as another regular Joe who stepped up when the times called for it and he wound up losing his life to a piece of shit. He didnt deserve that. Semper Fidelis, Chris Kyle, RIP.

Jocko got 32 Marines smoked and also did a bunch of shade crap. He was in charge of Kyle and knew what he was doing and couldn't care less. In his own book,Kile claims he sucker punched a guy in a bar,who was defending his wife against Kile's friends, when he was training in Ft Campbell. He then ran away. His victim later identified Kile in the ER room at the hospital where he was being treated for a broken jaw and Kile was being treated for a broken hand. Kile denied the whole thing. Then later, like a true narcissist, he told about it in his book.
He also,in his book, gives an account of what he titled The Twofer. In this account he tells his partner to watch this,as he waits for two guys on a motorcycle to get far enough away for him to line up the shot and get them both. WHAT A HOOT, RIGHT. By the time anyone covered the distance to the bodies, the satchel bomb that they were , supposed to be carrying had melded into the crowd that had gathered. War crime? I'm sure that it didn't go well with winning the hearts and minds in a country that the US change for the good.

White Feather Hathcock is in my opinion probably the most well-regarded sniper in US history, With all respect Chris Kyle. White feather literally wore feather on his hat for all others to see in the field and to shoot him and away from his men. His kill count is somewhere documented to be in the 90s, The US military would not keep track of his kill count unless there was a commander in the field to verify because they would inflate his numbers. When his base was attacked by a sniper to kill him and he missed he went out into the field and hunted the sniper for 3 days, playing a cat and mouse game with a sniper by the name of Cobra.
Chris Kyle is without a doubt the greatest US sniper of modern times, Carlos Hathock did not have access to the same equipment that Kyle had. But this is a pointless debate because if either these 2 men wanted you, They were gonna come and get you...

I have no doubt he thought he heard him saying that as he was in fight mode. If they can't beat them they ask them to join them. Those who frequent the 'drinking holes' are generally too lucid from all the mental laxatives being taken in and the withdrawals? The third day is the worst. It is just an excuse for them to go get a drink and maybe fight . It demonstrates a time of poor judgement over all among our military folks and those who over see them.

Chris Kyle belongs in the dumpster of history.
His persona was crafted to divert attention from the real hero, "Juba," who, unlike Kyle, was a true sniper hero defending his land against the invasion of bloodthirsty criminals seeking to plunder resources and responsible for the deaths of 1 million Iraqis. Kyle, on the other hand, was a criminal who abused his wife and killed children and women to inflate his kill count. The only redeeming aspect of his life was his demise; when he thought that he was safe, he was shot in the back by his friend in his own homeland... Justice is served

According to guys he served with- Chris was an abusive alcoholic and war monger…. Some even say murderer…. Years after these “amazing” storylines play out the truth unravels man…. America has war propaganda just like North Korea does to “pump” recruit numbers up and to sway public opinions…
Just like the “Lone survivor” story- guys who went in to save them say that Axel was no where near Marcus and that axles died 1-2 days before they got found him making Marcus statement about “I was with all my guys when they died” false. Furthermore, on satellite Marcus was shown running from the battle almost the whole time away from his team…
Back to chis- he was a hell of a shot, but being in a target rich environment, a pretty much “weapons free “ ROE and the unit he was in being known for causing issues etc (bruiser) I can’t say this favorite movie for me anymore knowing the truth and not what the media and our govt wanted to push down on us to pump recruitment numbers up, try to sway public opinions about the way etc…… look up the true truths of American Sniper….

Isn't the 160th SOAR an aviation unit strictly? I'm pretty sure they don't perform any ground combat and that they are the just the the most badass chauffeurs in the military.

What gives me pause is why did he need to exaggerate (lie?) about other things when his true body of work spoke for itself? I know a couple guys from his world, and one time I asked one of them (25 + years as an Operator.) what he thought of all the SEALs writing books and trying to be famous, his response - "I didnt get into this to write books." Nuff said...

Kyle lied about a lot of stuff. Some of his own teammates have even come out and confirmed he had lied about a lot and said we can’t figure it out, he did so much insane, heroic and cool stuff, why lie about it all. The first time he ever publicly said he hit Jesse Ventura was on camera in an interview. The interviewer asks him about it and he pauses and hesitates with that 100% look of, if I lie I can’t ever go back from this. He then proceeded to say he hit Jesse. You can tell he was nervous and hesitant. The way you would be as if you were lying and knew it was wrong but couldn’t take it back now once you’ve said it.
I simply think fame got to him and he just embellished everything to get more fame. Some people get a taste of a little fame and can’t let go. Not diminishing his service at all.

In 1998. I was training with the seals at VA Beach. While being trained as a Marine DM. We shared the range with experienced seals. The amount of respect we recieved as Marines from the navy seals was outstanding. I can honestly say now, those days were the best of my service.
When the news broke about his passing, tears flowed down my face. Even though we didn't serve in the same places, the experience was similar. Something the civilian world will never understand. Semper fi.

It may be minute to some, but the Navy doesn’t have “Basic Training” as the narrator says. The Army has BCT, or Basic Combat Training.
The Navy and Marines have “Boot Camp. For being a former Marine who produced this documentary, he should have known that and should have immediately caught the mistake.
