      Exactly what i thought when i read the thumbnail, disney just copypastes european cities into their parks🤔

    You have to sell a kidney to be able to afford to go to a Disney theme park now. Walts dream has tuned into a f'ing greed machine. He must be spining in his grave.

  • @jessyvalentinee

    I'm confused. Do these people realize that europe exists? There are many better examples for unique cities and carefully designed places than the ones he named. 😅
    All the optimization he named already exists to some extend in real cities. Instead of only taking a "fictive" city as an example like disney land, he should've involved more real life examples to prove that it is not impossible.

    • @rolly5457
      @rolly5457 10 місяців тому +2

      I believe he did it because of the relatability aspect. More Americans have probably been to Disney or have any idea of what it looks like rather than being in Europe.

    • @jessyvalentinee
      @jessyvalentinee 10 місяців тому

      @@rolly5457 that makes sense, hopefully that's the case :D

      @zacharydeboer7911 10 місяців тому +2

      That is the case.
      Telling an American that we should make our cities more like European ones is a non-starter for so many people.
      Explaining these ideas through the lens of Disney was my way of “Trojan horsing” these European city design ideas to the average American viewer.

    Absolutely loved this presentation!
    No, it’s not an advertisement for Disney. Watching past the first 2 minutes and it would be clear that the efforts made to show how the elements of success found in the theming, architecture, “street-mosphere” and magic were well-thought out and presented with passion and hope. Hope that the “most happiest place on earth” can easily be found on your own city block.
    We can have these things, too, in our communities without sacrificing money, space or lives, for that matter.
    Thank you for an inspiring talk!

      @@zacharydeboer7911 Concerning the first: TEDx seem to force speakers popping a Xanax before going onstage. So I did really enjoy watching a talk NOT on 2x, to have someone speaking at a decent speed. Means: You're a good speaker! Kudos.
      Concerning the topic at all: I'm European, German. Living in rural Germany. So if I want to enjoy what you're speaking of... I just go outside the door and down the street. Or drive 10 - 15 min in any direction. Even if I on vacation to other countries: France, Netherlands, Denmark, Poland... same.
      That's what I ment with: (such an) american (topic). But it emphasizes the feeling I often have when in the US: outside the hot spots and closed communities, everything looks like a third world country. So I hope for the best, that your ideas push things forward.

    Well goodluck trying to have a peacefull home time with density and variety in your neighborhood with everyone of the neighbors having a construction or something like that almost weekly. I agree that car based, unwalkable cities in America are a big problem but please do NOT give up on the suburb style of houses. America has the economy and geography/population ratio to survive it. Only few minor implications are enough.
