@@diekritischestimme dictatorship aka Authoritarianism is a model that can be used across all political and economic spectrum. You can be a capitalist while having an Authoritarian govt, where the govt heavily plays their invisible hand in the economy to produce profits. If you guys love the US democracy, aka the ones u serve down the desert in the Middle East, be my guest.

Fellow Singaporean’s if you are watching this , share it with other Singaporeans. Very grateful to all these planning and technology that goes into making life better for us. Thank you TED for the platform that creates this awareness🙏🙏🙏

Do you still think this way? This system can easily be corrupted and your country turned into a tech-dictatorship.
Eventually, you will have the wrong, corrupted people in the government, if you do not have them already.

Really interesting use cases, what great outcomes for Singapore ! I just watched it in 2024. I work as a Data Scientist Engineer since 3 years now and smart cities inspire me a lot ever since ! I also deeply consider the new challenges that this system involves - cybersecurity, respect of confidentiality, but also environmental : how to best optimize the data centers' use, to keep saving energy, like the road lights Dr. Cheong Koon talked about.

The main goal is reduce stress level for the residents, law enforcers, and visitors as well as safety for everyone. One key is density of occupants at any moment must at a workable number like 1000/ 1km**2 at any moment in time. This number is the most ideal to guarantee safety, stress level and all activities at its optimal including communication cell phone internet and sewage level and water and air

i would make the commercial and apartments as high as i can while suppling enough power from solar panels covering most of the space above. the buildings could have modular walls and floors to fit the business size accordingly, maybe made of air krete. the apartments could be on the top floors, commercial on the bottom 2 floors. half of the buildings and companies would be city owned and half private so you have atleast one of each option for most goods and services.
enough dirt for grass, plants and some trees on the roof to keep the temperature comfortable, maybe geothermal heating and cooling. the roofs would be connected by a large platform/ bridge connecting the corners, underneath could be large multi floor businesses. on the roofs there could be service roads, large bike paths, sport fields and stadiums, parks, cell and radio towers, satelite dishes, metered parking for vehicles and rv's and food trucks and vending machine, ect. industrial could be along the edge around the commercial and apt center some under the dirt, grass and solar panels. then residential on the next layer outside. then outside that would be open farms.
houses with roofs built and used to use solar panels and wind turbines would be subsidized. the first half of residential layers would be divided into small lots for small houses or rv's. you could get a house near your office or side of commercial. you would be allowed to have a mobile permanent address. small wind turbines could be all across the roof too.

Really appreciate all the advance planning that have been done to develop a great country, some thoughts I have here, do you have something in the smart system to simulate how sound travel and with a way to reduce the noise pollution? I found that the noise echoing is extremely severe in the area I live, a person who talking with normal tone downstair at the park can be pickup easily by the person who live at 10th floor. Would strongly recommend to improve the sound proofing on our buildings. And since we have already started to have solar panel in many of our HDB roof, will there be any chance we will see our electrical bill being reduce?

It is cheaper to employ foreign degree holder than local degree graduates. Most unemployed degree holder will have to make shift for temporary jobs like driving Grab cars or taxi or working in banks as temporary clerks.

Anjan Babu i think for india, our core and more central problems such as poverty, education, sanitation and corruption will be worked on much more before even reach this stage. Thus, it will be viable much later on. Not right now. However smart cities are being built but i really don't think this sort of efficiency will be achieved soon.

      @ditsygirl5409 4 роки тому +2

Singapore didn’t start off being a smart city. We started off poor and worked for 20-30 years in our city before we had anything considered smart. But we did the right things for our foundation, moving people from slums to safe public housing, giving people portable water straight from tap, building good roads and walkways, creating a town that is efficient where your basic amenities like groceries, eateries, Malls, libraries, schools, Parks and transport are within 15 mins walk/bus ride from your residence. We also grow trees to beautify the environment and build our water ways such that water can be captured and recycled without waste. A strong foundation in city planning is important to Ensure an effective and efficient environment, future environmental sustainability and continuity. Then these smart technologies works to enhance the people’s lives.

this kind of smart city idea, where every where is full of sensors, i am afraid will human-bonding get weaker and weaker because there are technology to providing our needs community? for example to turn-off the light with technology you need to produce the sensors the systems and that needs more energy!! but the smartest and most environmentalist way is to teach the community to be environmental-consious and teach them to turn of the light when they are not using.
and paralel to this; the upper administrative level peoples know every thing about the lower level community. so that can cause overcontrol from up. we need technology to collect datas to function well yes but; we need social bonding and strong support & trust environment among the community even more!

What Singapore has done is to grow plants and trees wherever it’s possible. In between roads and buildings, even on top of them and their sides. There are park links all around which is essentially pathways with plants, trees, flowers and small exercise spots connecting larger parks or reservoirs and even the beach. It’s currently a balance of trees and buildings. So if thats what you’re asking, then yes it is possible

I am tired of people like this “ I collect datas, I input into computer, I build model....” give me a break an for once give credit to people that actually do the labor work . So many times old architect appropriate ideas of young talented people . It s not fair and not pleasant to listen to. Also people talk about community ? So why not talking about your “team’s work” instead as “I”

Singapore HDB flat is one of the most expensive public housing yet claiming to be highly subsidized public housing. It depreciates to zero when lease expires and carbonization guarantees it's demolishment

Nice Dystopia planner. We have had been able to live green long before the surveillance state was developed. For the love of god do not sell out your and your people’s human rights because your scared of lights that you switch on on your way to the toilet 🙄. Have fun living a city that tracks you wile you drive, tracks your movements in your house, and tracks your social credit score. Choose to live in a normal city, use cash, and don’t bring your phone everywhere, learn a little privacy software. Humanity 10 years from now will thank your collective decisions 👍

I feel for many things showcased here the approach is wrong. Take the example of the elderly Mum being monitored, because she once has had a fall and her daughter cannot watch her over the day, because she has to go to work. The soultion should be a technical one? Why not offer a home care service (public health service), or find a work-from-home solution for the daughter (if applicable), or even change working patterns completely? Do we still need to go to the office 9-5? Can't we find other, 'disconnected' solutions for the time we need to be at the workplace? Or do we all even need to be at a workplace, can't our job be attended from home?

Exactly but politicians and ohter elite are really pushing for more and more data and control (they are very much proponents of centralized planning).
