    Whenever I watch the beginning of D-day, I always get chills down my spine. As a veteran of the war for the independence of Croatia (volunteer 91-95), I always admire these people anew, from the paratroopers to the infantry. They should have made a huge sacrifice for success. Along with fear and other emotions, little by little we make our way through the rain of bullets and shells for every meter forward. As a veteran I had a similar experience but this was a magnificent confirmation of a just war for world peace. Kudos to them.

    I used to have a friend named Bud but he passed away he was in world war II, I asked him about it, he said he was a fourth wave, and he got shot getting water at a campsite, then sent home, I kind of joke with him saying, so did you do a lot of walking, you said you better believe it!
    on memorial Day, you was at the mall, and everything was quiet, he looked at me and said as he raised the newspaper, he said with a not smiling at all, there ought to be a law against this, let him rest in peace, cuz he was in it, but for us it's a celebration, but for him it's bad memories.

    "D-Day - The most important battle in military history". I think a little research into "military history" would reveal a number of more worthy candidates for such an illustrious title. It should also be noted that other armies and landing beaches were available for consideration.

    • @TheTryingDutchman
      @TheTryingDutchman 2 роки тому +6

      Agreed, even during ww2 itself i'd say the battle of Stalingrad is way more worthy of that title.

    • @salvadorvizcarra769

      Wait... What? "D-Day is the most important battle in Military History?" NOT! I also think it is an unworthy title. Propaganda has always led us to believe that we, "The Yankees", beat Hitler. But, I have news for you Mr. Photolsca: The US did not win the war against Germany. The Russians won it. The Allied Army of the US, UK, Canada, Belgium and France (and Poland, and other countries), was able to reach Normandy, thanks to the Soviets destroying the Nazis in Stalingrad, Leningrad and in Kurks, in 1943. It took them 289 days but the Russians won and without the help of nobody… OF NOBODY! Normandy was until June 1944, and Mr. “Hollywood” Patton did NOT manage to set foot on Germany until February 1945, when the Red Army was going over Berlin. General Patton was able to enter Germany only when the Russians were 150 kilometers from the Oder River (LOL). The Allies were defeated at Arnhem (Market Garden Sep. 25-1944), and at The Battle of the Bulge (Jan. 25-1945). General Patton was paralyzed without fuel, while the Red Army was preparing for its last offensive into Berlin. Look: It took the Allies 8 months to advance only 500 kilometers from Normandy to Arnhem, and from there, start the Withdrawal back to the border of France/Belgium (What?), facing a virtually defeated German Army cuz USSR. Well Mr. Photolsca… The US has been defeated in Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, Lebanon, Somalia and now, in Afghanistan. However, the powerful US Army defeated the tiny island of Grenada (1983), as it faced a fearsome army of 287 Police Officers, since Grenada does NOT have an army. In fact, they were half this number, since the Policemen on the afternoon shift had not yet come to work. What seems incredible is the fact that the US was defeated by Vietnam. What? Did the US lose the war against Nam? OMG! Against a poor country, underdeveloped, malnourished, without Navy, without Air Force, NO Marines, Green Berets, SEALs, Rangers, Delta Force, USMC, Rambos or Chuck Norris. Defeated by a country of peasants without strategic plans, no B-59 Bombers, PT-Boats, Northrop F-5 "Freedom Fighter", nor Atomic Submarines. Without Aircraft Carriers, NO Continental Missiles, nor Tanks, Choppters, AR-15, Gatlin Machins, Flamethrowers, Napalm, Agent Orange. And to top it off, defeated by an army of teenagers who had no shoes: WITHOUT SHOES!!! Army that fought with bamboo sticks!!! Charlie Kicked Our Asses and even invaded our Embassy.

    Really?! “The most important battle in military history?!” Weren’t the most important and largest battles of ww2 fought in the east where the Soviet Union faced the vast majority of the German army and beat them? Like the largest armored battle at Kursk, and then there was Stalingrad etc. seems inaccurate to say that when the vast majority of the German army was beaten in the east!!

      Since you've never lived in an occupied country, you wouldn't understand the importance of liberation. You see Russia albeit did have the majority of the weight on its shoulders in fending off the German army you would be correct with that however, they were not occupied they were being invaded. To explain the difference to someone you would have to be there to understand and to see the devastation and the murders that took place in Europe while under occupation. To be liberated to be free to be rescued by the allies was by far the most important of all the battles simply because of the amount of people that were rescued and were prevented from being murdered by the death camps and the Gestapo etc. One can argue that Russia bared the brunt of the German army and that the Battle of Stalingrad and kursk were of greater significance and that would also be true. But I would imagine that if you were in European or were occupied or were in the resistance in France then I would think that that would be the most important battle simply because it was the battle that brought America into europe. In my opinion I would agree with half of what you said but I would also agree that this being the most important battle and I wanted to put a note on that as well that a lot of emphasis was put on D-Day and they emphasize about how many Americans were killed etc, yet there were battles in the Pacific that were three four times more casualties than D-Day so, one could argue that those were more significant right? Because the Japanese also were occupying many countries and therefore one could say that the battle of Okinawa or Iwo Jima but those weren't turning points in the war they were footsteps and they were definitely Big foot steps but certainly not the most important. No I kind of agree with the idea that D-Day because of the magnitude because of the planning because of the significance of that battle it does place it at number one and I'm sorry to say that to all the veterans and fallen off others.
