I remember when this game was called The War Z. They tried to dodge the bad reputation by changing their name, but didnt bother to fix the game in the meantime haha

Your talking about a game that was abandoned such a long time ago. Pre-2014 It was insane how full servers were. Deveolopers? Absolute trash, but to the OG players (summit1g included) this was an absolute gem. The game you are showcasing was a desparate attempt at a reboot and nothing more than a mere emulator. The game itself was in very bad shape but thats not what created the experiences. We are talking about an era when the GTX 690 was considered king of the crop, 16 gigs of ram? Never heard of her. 80% of the playerbase was still using a HDD. Is the graphics, gameplay, mechanics outdated? Absolutley, so is Counter strike source lol its 2023. If you werent in clearview rocking a custom gurellia and a Tar21 or Saur while you waited for the clan to load in at one of the 7 "random" spawn points then you absolutley missed out. Nothing like farming norad mili for the chance at a weapon box with a possibility at a m107.
There is something about horrible games that makes me want to play them.

Bad-fun games are out there. Like recently I got 20+ hours of broken open-world hilarity out of Dynasty Warriors 9. Some of the things I saw were funnier than anything in a deliberately comic game.

back in the days when it was called Warz / Infestation: survivor stories and summ1t and dakotaz used to stream this , it was one of the best games literally, pvp, pve everything about this game, aspect of global inventory/stash and trading was so addictive and good , this - NewZ is pretty much dead but trust me boys, back in the golden age 2013-2015 it was amazing even tho the "og" staff and devs of this game were scammers and there were lot off p2w things, there was something really magical about this game, who knows - knows
The private server addition patch killed the game (they nerfed the loot so bad on public servers), before that update, the game was crazy good. Easily one of the best multiplayer and fps experiences I had.
Yes, I have been trying to recreate this experience for over a decade now. Tried Dayz, SCUM and what not. But nothing quite makes it to this one. It was the excessive cheating that killed it for me.

Even back then people knew it was a scam. The second the called it WarZ and showed gameplay everyone instantly knew it was a grift. I'm amazed it still exists so long later.

Even despite crazy patches which were impossible to fuck up that bad, like my favourite flares. But it was still good. Later around cars game really went to shit and years later they dropped it naming it ISS

If i remember correctly Newz started as an emulator/priv server of WarZ/ISS and the people behind it were completely unrelated to the company that is responsible for making the actual game, models, engine, etc. NewZ was going to fix what the original devs didnt/couldnt do, the original Infestation Survivor Stories closed and they sold the ISS rights to NewZ making them legit. The funny thing is that one of the main devs is partly responsible for killing off the game because he made free public cheats for the game, one version of his cheat had over 35k downloads.
Man it's amazing, the hate for this game is so ingrained in me that after years of not touching it, I recognized it IMMEDIATELY when the zombie noises started at 0:23. Those are like 4 of the 8 zombie noises they have in game hahahaha
Your final thoughts were spot on btw. This game, "The War Z" as originally called, came out during the DayZ era boom, so a lot of people tried it out since there weren't many other alternatives. However the game was extremely unpolished, uninspired and filled with hackers, and every slow update they put in, only worsen the game experience.
Fun to play though, in a way that fast food is tasty, but I would never give a cent to the devs.
Let's not forget that this game was originally called The War Z but the name was changed and the studio rebranded it after the huge scandal of them blatantly stealing people's money

Man, I remember when Totalbiscuit covered this game... This and Garry's Incident were probably the two earliest times I got that schadenfreude of a youtuber just tearing into something terrible. But back in the day when this game came out, the whole notion of shite-terrible trash being released in storefront's was new and novel... what an innocent time. XD
Garry´s incident, what a tragedy. I remember being an internet virgin, was that for a long time due to my naive approach to things. I watched that review and was never the same again, TB opened my eyes to the cruel world out there.

Yep I was one of the earliest buyers of this game. I was younger. More naïve. I can, if nothing else, say it taught me to be more discerning, as it was one of the first game purchases I genuinely regretted.
New things I noticed:
Lootboxes.
Tutorials.
Lockout timer.
NPC survivors.
Enemy NPC survivors.
Bandit Camps.
Combining health with the mini-map.
claimable territory.
Loading screen ads.
Discord.
A universal skill tree as opposed to class based.
I bet if you bought that rusted armor pack from the store it would give your character tetanus and they would die from it 😂

WarZ. I remember when this came out riding the wave before DayZ stand-alone came out. Devs putting fake screen shots for advertisements, and banning people from their forums for criticizing their support. An update that caused your screen to blackout when shooting. But for all it’s flaws and absolutely horrible optimization. It was fun. When you killed a character it was a literal hour respawn timer to make it “hardcore”.

I remember trying this a whiel back. Cost me 2quid. I joined a server with like 2 players onto get my bearings. Within a few minutes, two heavily armoured high level players, shot me in the back and stole my starting gun and food. I tried again. This time joined an empty server with a new player, no starting gun this time, just a bar of chocolate. Again two heavily armoured players joined, drove up to me in thier jeep killed me and stole my bar of chocolate. Never played it again since. Players on this game are toxic. Setting up ambush points outside safe zones to kill and steal people stuff they spent real money on.
I got the founders edition of this game back in the early 2010s. I miss this game but hackers ruined it. It's more if a PVP based game that you loot and drop off the loot at a "Safe Zone" into your global inventory. Was WarZ before it was ISS played it for 6-10 hours every day. Pretty much the objective of the game was to hunt down players and take their loot to stash on your inventory. Loot was really rare to find when the game first came out.
This game entertained my underdeveloped primate brain back when it was WarZ, simpler times those were.
I remember buying this game back before they changed the name and had just come out. I quit the game because I quite literally couldn't get into a single server without a cheater

Idk what surprises me the most...that this game stil exists or that it looks even worse than it did when it first came out. Can't believe that I once was hyped for this game when it was announced and first came out...but the naive little me would never have thought of something like a scam back then

Oh I remember the controversies at the time. The unkept promisses, the name changes and rebrands. I think it got removed from steam at some point.

I am ashamed to admit I’m a Day 1 player of this one. A few Spanish UA-camrs promote it a bit back in the day (no idea if it it has paid promotion or not) but it seemed like DayZ but not being a mod. My teenage ass paid 40 whole dollars for the special whatever the f*ck edition that included some in game currency I believe that could buy nothing really and a few extra ultra basic guns. Guns that, due to the way this game was a “”survival hardcore you die you start from scratch” kind of deal. YOU LOST YOUR gun if you died with it. For ever. Just like that. I never dared to equip it.
Oh and I have no clue today. But on day one, no vehicles. Just jogging across killometers just to get sniped as soon as you got to a city. And the loot was comically low. I’m talking a hammer and some granolas after 5 h of exploring. I was even worried I would never get better at the gun play because I swear I never touched a real gun for the first week I played.
All that said… my mates and Me had a blast with it for way more time it had any right to. I some how have 46h in this game (most of them running to a city doing nothing with a rubber holding down the W key being honest)
I guess my standards for games were way lower when I was a teen.

This "game" was quite a hilarious roller coaster back then. I remember when they had to change the name due to the movie, when they claimed the game was in development WAY before DayZ even confirmed the standalone version and most hilariously, when they'd grab the WarZ assets and keep on releasing crappy games that looked exactly the same. This was quite a time in gaming, thanks to the "beauty" of early access...
This was the most memorable game ive played, unironically this game was amazing, anybody who likes modern titles like pubg, fortnite, aaah. Whatever, nobodys gonna read this.
Guys trust me, before the name change the game was good. Alpha was so much fun too.

I played this game pretty actively until like 2 months ago, its a bad game for sure but it had a weird charm to it but sadly it has nearly no playerbase and the small base that is there likes to use hacks so I stopped playing due to that.
Apparently I played this 10 years ago for 35 hours. I remember playing it with my brother in law, but I don't remember the actual game.
Omg this was an absolute blast from the past.
It took me a minute to realize I had even played this game because it rebranded itself so many times in quick succession after the backlash it got from the developers lying about the development of the game combined with what they delivered.
The game was just a bad rip off of other better games getting popular at the time, and during Dev logs they just straight up lied about what was in their game and the things they were doing.
Then when found out for their lies and how bad the game was, they renamed the game to try to dodge the bad PR.
I'm honestly utterly shocked this game is still around in any capacity a decade later.
But it's hilarious to see how little improvement it's had in that amount of time.
Thinking how many full fledged games could be made in a decade by even a small indie studio, compared to this atrocity that after whatever amount of initial development time it had, then early access, and 10 years later and it's STILL not even a functional game.
Of course instead of actually making the game any better they just half ass shoved in popular game modes as they got popular, the same way every bad dead game did.
And double down on microtransactions for a game that was less than under delivered and never will be a finished product.
I can't fucking imagine the mindset of the people playing this.
There are literally so many options online of things to play even like this and yet they chose this game.

Years ago when it came out, like within the first month, back when it was called The War Z, I would run around the map picking up all the M4's and the big magazines.
After a week of doing this, I had 100's of guns. So many that killing people and getting killed wasn't fun anymore.
So I sold them on ebay.
It was SUCH a good time!

I remember playing this when it came out. I was but a young teenager at the time and was somehow gripped by it for a total of around 24 hours I'd wager.
It has barely changed in 10 years. The animations, weapons, enemies (aside from the alien mutants and bandit AI) and world map are all the same.

I bought H1Z1 at $40 only to be told later down the road that the game would be "free-to-play" model, not buy-to-own as advertised. Then they changed the name of game and deleted everyone's account. Good time, 5/10.
WarZ was what made me love survival games. Eventually ended up in tarkov and now since tarkov is also struggling I finally came off the survival drug. Until the next big game probably.
Felt like i was watching a documentary about a horrible Mmo i like your style you got moxxi you got another subscriber keep it up.
Tabula Rasa had similar issues. It was the first attempt at a Shooter MMO, and it marketed the ability to hot-swap your specializations (hence the game's name). But it was basically empty with the only enemy content being either hilariously easy or impossibly hard to beat. There was no difficulty scale. You either wiped the floor with a patrol of enemies, or they two-shot you in seconds.
I actually enjoyed playing this back when it was called WarZ, before all the hackers appeared. It wasn't the best game ever but it was fun enough for the time it was released.
Infestation wasnt an mmo though, it was just a a br. Man, I remember this game, the jank, the bugs, but still, it was so much fun to play with friends.

Back when this game was WarZ, if you happened to be going down a mountain and your character slips and slides down, you got instantly kicked for speedhacking.

OMG! The War Z. This awful game... to think i spent money buying the game upsets me till this day! But thru this experience i learnt never to pre-purchase a game ever again (mainly a title from a non-reputable entity).
Same it was a good 15$ lesson.
This game used to be so good, and I mean from when it launched (2012) to early 2014, then after that it went down hill. This review only talks about what it is now not what it used to be, but that aside a very accurate review of the game currently.
I tried this game a few years ago, and rage quit after getting killed over and over by spawn campers on almost every server, and being auto kicked from the server when you die having to wate up to 20min to rejoin

Ngl i played this game so much with my friends in the past until there was an influx of Brazilian players. There were already some cheaters in the game but once the Brazilians found it the game was unplayable because of the amount of cheaters.
WarZ was actually one of the best zombie games until hackers got ahold of it
i have this game. i got stuck in a rockey hill that wasnt fully finished. so half of it was just not there and i could see through the map. i stopped playing after that

A lot of both understandable and unreasonable hate for this game. The story behind the development of the game you are playing in this video is actually a bit deeper than what appears on the surface. As someone who has sunk hundreds of hours into both versions, there is a few things you should understand. The game you are playing throughout this video is not Infestation Survivor Stories. ISS died and was taken offline in late 2016. ISS was actually a fairly decent game, much more "barebones" than what you are playing in this video. It had a healthy player base but the game was eventually destroyed due to hackers. Hacks were very very very rampant. Other than devs banning people manually from investigating reports there was no real effective anti-cheat. This is what ultimately lead to the death of this game. Where the story gets a bit funky is when the main provider of these hacks, and the one who profited the most off of selling ISS hacks, was a guy named Fredaikis. Fredaikis killed the game he was profiting off of and then he turned around and bought the rights to the game. He then re-released the game with an actual anti-cheat software and labeled it as Infestation The New Z. The thought process was if anyone could stop the hackers maybe it could be the guy who sold them all the hacks in the first place. Over the years Fredaikis has evolved the game quite a bit to where you now have tutorials, beginner modes, skins, multiple game modes, new zombies, battlepasses, etc. ISS is much more of a "game" now than it ever was in the past. Whether or not that is a good thing is up to debate. What made original ISS so good in my opinion was how simple yet difficult the game was. You would spend hours/days looting building up good items just to go into hot PvP zones with your friends and risk losing it all in seconds or taking someone else's. I don't think New Z is a bad game. I think it is very misunderstood. It is a great sequel to original ISS, but the game makes very little sense if you weren't an original ISS fan in the first place. The game is still somewhat alive, 200-400 active players per day. Considering there is only a handful of servers there is still plenty of action to find. Most of the people still playing after all this time are typically very good making it hard to jump in as a new player. The game definitely had its "bugs and quirks" but I've yet to play a game that's perfect. If the original developers actually implemented an effective anti cheat I think the overall opinion of the game would have been very different at the time.

This game. THIS FUCKING GAME. I was one of those that bought this game when it was called WarZ. I bought it in alpha. Imagine my disappointment after seeing what the game actually was.
I'm both happy and angry that after all these years it still looks like a scam instead of a game.

I played ISS when it was still called WarZ.. the whole re-branding is a joke by itself, as they were sued back in the day, because around that time World War Z (the movie) was released. I remember that we played full legit for about a couple of months until we have realized, that the game was literally Infested (ah the irony) with hackers. There was a publicly available hack package. Seriously it was one of the most entertaining gaming experience I've ever had. Everyone was a pice of shit, super toxic, and it was brilliant.
Man I remember when The WarZ came out, was so fucking pissed. One of the biggest scams in gaming, ever.
if you like the game server disconnecting you randomly while you're being chased by a zombie, and as a result you get killed and lose all of your gear to no fault of your own. than you'd like this scam

I supported this game, all the way back in Alpha, i bought it, I was there when all hell broke loose, it was fun, it was interesting, and it was kinda sad watching the devs throw it all out the window.

I played as a kid and I loved it. It was a more zombie filled DayZ back when it was called WarZ man the good ol'days. Wow this game took a turn for the worst.... it's not even the same game anymore....

You can be happy that there isnt much pvp anymore,back then almost every player used hacks and stuff.
Was a fun time,but im happy its over,still feels like the endless alpha version zombie game it was back then.

I was a pretty big fan when the game was in alpha. The servers were pretty quickly hijacked by hackers. That and like half the stuff advertised by the developer wasn't in the game. Definitely got a genuine Russian gaming experience.

You should take a look at "Age of Survival" , I understand Infestation has the lowest score rating but that only means a lot of ppl played it to give it such a low score. Age of Survival is just 100% negative , never finished garbage in every aspect. should surely check it out
