35 Broken NES Games - Will Cleaning Fix Them?
Around the TronicsFix/Restorish office I found thirty-five non-working Nintendo Entertainment System games. I am curious how many I can get working just by cleaning them.

Bringing Back the Grey - Trying the Vapor Retr0brite Method

Until now I have held off on engaging in the retrobright process commonly used for restoring yellowed plastic to its original bright grey or white color. I have my reasons. You both inspired me to start restoring old dirty consoles. I felt lost after somewhat letting go of a previous passion of mine. Felt empty and unfulfilled. Got way too involved in politics and began feeling bitter. Oh and bored lol. So seeing both your videos made me want to not only fix my fiancé’s Wii like Steve but also clean it like Robert. Learned after a week of binge watching that you both actually work together! Perfect lol. I went and got my Ifixit kit and an Xbox opener tool and got about 7 more consoles, some to restore some to fix and some just to be a kid again and stay up till 4 am playing Tony Hawk skateboarding 😂. Thanks both of you for giving me some meaning and some joy back!

    Robert has such a positive charisma that you'd easily think he was Canadian. (from a European perspective) But in the end, that counts for the whole TronicsFix/ Restorish team! I barely watch US content, because it is often a bit too „energised“ for me, but you people are great to watch.

    I live in the Philippines, one of the most humid countries in the world. We do have quite a lot of cockroaches, but in the 10 years I've lived here, I've never had cockroaches or any other bugs in my electronics. And thank goodness for that! I can’t imagine the nightmare of cleaning out my PC if it were infested with bugs like that.

    Saddens me how people mistreat electronics so much. Even more so for limited editions. You always do such great work. Your voice is so peaceful and soothing. Keep it up and don't change who are for anyone.

    Lol. You did put way too thermal paste for the CPU. One thin line of thermal paste is enough for small CPU's and two lines for bigger ones. I like the fact you mention how the magic eraser is abrasive on shiny surfaces yet safe for mate ones.

    Great video, thanks! Is it necessary to actually take this fully apart to clean though? Wouldn't just opening it and using a good can of compressed air work pretty well and do the job or do I really need to do all of this :/

    So you thought it was too boring to show us the testing of the games yet you included the part where you did dishes 20 times? Next time I’d switch those around. Show the testing, nobody needs to see you wash 20 game shells.

    I wonder if the Nintendo thought of how the Super Nintendo cartridges were handled and used better glue. I'm guessing the SNES cartridges are handled by grasping the label along with the cartridge and the NES cartridge was supposed to be handled by the depressed tab.

    Good stuff.... I feel you took the loss-column a little easy though, there were a couple of games in there (SMB3 for instance) that looked like they might make it with the "extra care" you gave MegaMan 6, so close....

    Just note, these are usa versions. Though mega drive was same look for its first variant. Genesis is such a lame name for a console. Mega Drive was more retro of a name, which rest of the world used. Snes version around the world was better looking than usa version

    I find it idiotic that Microsoft makes getting to the d pad and other buttons on controllers, soldering and resoldering has to be involved. PS controllers, the d pad and buttons are much easier to get to.

    Yeah It does seem like a car accident, now looking at those glass pieces found in the switch lite, they do look like the thick glass used in a car window, I just hope that whoever owned is still alive, it feels kinda weird using a device from someone who is no longer around, if that is the case.

    13:38 _"Are either of these games fake?"_ No. It's not unusual for another manufacturing run to be ordered for more copies. Also, Nintendo was very good about updates, including using the newer Nintendo seal of quality when it superseded the older seal in printed materials like manuals, labels, and boxes. Although many NES games came from different publishers, Nintendo was virtually the only company who manufactured copies for their licensed 3rd parties as well as for themselves.

  • @Watcher3223
    @Watcher3223 3 дні тому

    For the games that aren't working, you're giving up too easily. For those games that are not starting up, try wiggling the game pak while it's still in the loaded position in the control deck. This causes the contacts to scrub and make a more positive connection with the pins. The ZIF slot of the front loading NES isn't the most reliable. Chances are that those same games that wouldn't start in your tests may play perfectly fine with a little more effort or when used with a top loader NES.

    Someone correct me if I'm wrong since NES is not my forte, but I think you should be taking the game fully out and reinserting it instead of pushing down on it then, pushing it back - I don't think that changes anything with how the pins are making contact. I bet some of those games that showed the menu screens might work if they were just taken out and put back in.

      @nsos28 2 дні тому

      This is right, the pressing down thing isn't actually a necessary function, you could theoretically play on the NES for the rest of time without ever pressing the cartridges down
