I do love the simplicity of a hard tail MTB. The immediacy of the power transfer is so addictive for me. You feel like you really do get out, what you put in. I know ultimately, it will be slower over rough terrain, but it feels so alive!
David Arthur is the best bike reviewer by far- love the amount of detail and thoughtful feedback. Bikeradar, Loam Wolf, Enduro Mtb, etc. - no one is even close
A bike I have no interest in but with David at the helm, it’s a solid watch from start to finish. Let’s get this channel to 50k guys! Without a doubt, the best guy on UA-cam by a mile for all things cycling.
Great review David! What I like about hard tails is that the capabilities of the bike are that bit lower than a full suspension, it's the rider's skill that determines the pace and not the bike. I've seen people with very little experience getting into trouble on a trail riding a full suspension because the bike's capabilities are so much greater than theirs. A hard tail is a great place to start off at mountain bikes, to learn the skills (I'm still in this bucket) and just enjoy the trail at a lower and more engaging pace than you would on the full suspension. I haven't ridden a steel frame but you make it sound compelling and it may be the next MTB option I go for! Thanks again for the great review.
That bike looks stunning. I'm hardtail all the way. Unfortunately never had chance to ride steel, always been alloy. But that looks excellent, like a piece of art, some real thought into the design and yummy welds
LOL that trail looks like a gravel road I would love to find! The MTB trails are sooo rooty my back cant take a hardtail anymore. Great reviews @DavidArthur I’m new to the channel and love it.
Bought up on 1990s HTs, ‘upgraded’ to FS for a few years… Modern hard tails are extremely capable, won’t be going back to a boring, skill compensating FS… kills fun.
David, have you had a chance to weigh the bike? I'm in the queue for a custom steel hard tail in the newsboy style by a company called Retrotec in California, and just curious as to what these steel hard tails might run in terms of weight. Thank you for the video.
The problem with such a short seat tube is that even with a 400mm seat post you might not get proper leg extension. I checked the sizing and even the largest frame wouldn’t work for me. I’m 6 feet 3 inches tall with longish legs.
Looking at the geo chart, stack looks really low at 586mm and the same for all three sizes which is a bit odd. That's even less than what you see on most XC specific hardtails.
I had e cromo bmx then a Mtb full cromo. Being a 26er back then the bike was quite light. Not sure if I'd go back to cromo but I'd consider it if the weight was close alloy.
Can anyone explain to me what the logic is with having the seatstays join the seattube above the top tube? Steel MTB frames seem to exclusively have this feature already since the 90s. I really don't like the aesthetics of it. I think it kind of messes up the lines of the frame and I don't understand what this is supposed to accomplish.
Cheers mate. Keep it simple. Ripping single-track on basic bikes makes you feel like a kid again. Hop on a purpose built trail bmx and you'll be laughing your ass off. Thanks for the review.
As an ex mountain biker. When I see those little ass front chain rings?! You can only spin on that, nothing more. That's why I stopped mountain biking and just went road. I hate what they've done to mountain bikes!

She sure is out there. In my garage, built and still has your old forks on it!
Rad! Great to hear
That's great!

Stoked everytime I get a notification for a new vid from my boy David!
your dog adores you!

I Must admit i do love a nice steel or titanium frame, I really like the look of this!
Love the dog and the review. Thank you David
I love my hardtail 29er. Will always have a hardtail in the stable.
the dog is the hook that makes me watch this channel.

Looks a gorgeous bike fair play great vlog again David.
this, the kona honzo, and surly karate monkey... all really nice steel mtbs, I love the look of them with the skinny steel tubes and big wheels.
Love riding a hardtail...Pipedream Cycles makes some good ones!
hardtail and 29er is always a winner 😎

Just found your channel, loving your style , feels like an old riding buddy if that makes sense ?
Truly excellent
Welcome to the channel 👍
Nice bike and review. Great that your dog goes with you on your rides.
Had one of these for a couple of months and am very happy with it. Such a great all-rounder.
Is the steering floppy side to side with such a slack head tube angle? I’m think of building one for SS XC use. Thanks!
@@stepupcyclery4136 more than my old XC bike but it's not problematic (for me)
Ali is a great addition to the videos 👍🏻
Nice bike. Ally is a great dog. Thanks for the video. I liked and subscribed.
Nice bike, nice trail, happy dog.
Awesome review. Thank you for this.
That is adorable. Oh, the bike is nice too.
Thanks Dave!
Just imagine how fast your dog would be if you get him a bike!
The dog is riding an all terrain quad with 13 inch legs. It might be slower on the trails but it goes everywhere!

Wow i love this cycle
Stuff the bike it’s the dog I’d like to take home, she’s gorgeous 😄
Where do you get a fork to fit a straight steer tube?
Love that dog! Haha
Nice! Great looking hardtail! Does anyone know if their geo numbers are at sag?
yes
Any website you recommend for custom bikes

Good girl !!
Hardtails are the best! Not sure about steel is real tho. I find this phrase rather ignorant as there are other factors that matter more.
Booom
simplicity lack of complexity lol
Ugh, leash your dog.

Just put a bigger ring on ya kook 😂
I don't think people will be able to afford a bike with the cost of living crisis never mind a full suspension and a hardtail.
