Tania, Mine had quit working a number of years ago and I just pulled it apart thinking if all else fails, I would just get a new one. I didn't have your video to help me so I didn't go as far as disassembling it as you did, but it worked again. But recently it was screeching and jamming so bad I went to look for a "fix it" video and found yours. WOW...thanks for an amazingly simple and straightforward step-by-step. I found an amazing amount of little paper scraps in it. I cleaned it all out and now it almost works like new (it is 11 years old, so wasn't expecting miracles). I've saved your video for next time!
Thank you so much for this video! My Big Shot was very hard to turn. It almost felt locked up. I took it apart and cleaned and lubricated the gears with bike chain spray lubricant, and now it turns so freely! I don't think it's been this good since I bought it. Thanks again for the great video! I would've thought it was broken and thrown it away if I hadn't seen this. Thanks so much for taking the time!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! My Big Shot developed a nasty grinding noise when I used it and it wasn't cutting at all well. I followed your video to take it apart and could see that one bearing was broken. I ordered near bearings and made sure I had the necessary tools, found a tutorial for replacing a bearing and this morning I set to work. Thank you so much for giving me the confidence to give it a go. I had to buy a pair of circlip pliers and 2 new bearings (always good to have a spare) but for the small sum of £10 I have a good as new Big Shot!
I'm 63 yrs old, but I wanna be you when I grow up. You go girl. Thanks for posting this. This machine really is a very simple manual noodle maker. Cleaning it out is 80% of our issues. Sometimes they really do break down and we have to go an extra step, but you have shown the say. TFS.
We took ours to pieces and found that the small shaft that the handle turns had seized up. The two holes were full of crud, and took some scrubbing with an old toothbrush and some WD-40 to get it turning. We added a few drops sewing machine oil to both holes and the handle once again turns. You are to be congratulated for your courage and fortitude in repairing your unit. We run something called the Repair Cafe here in rural BC and people haul in stuff that needs this type of magic. You are hereby appointed an honorary member of our Gibsons Repair Cafe. Please show up at the next event and bring tools ...
Wow what a difference a day makes! Thanks for your encouragement and great directions! My Big Shot is like new! It had 6 years of tiny scraps embedded in it and now it works smoothly and like a dream!
THANK YOU! My Big Shot just seized up and would not crank at all. With the help of my husband I am back in business (and richer for not having to buy a new one!)
Thank you so much for this easy to follow video! I thought maybe my big shot was only fit for the bin and now I’m feeling confident about fixing my machine!! ❤
Thank you so much. This was the only video I was able to find that showed how to dismantle a big shot and put it back together. Thanks to you, I was able to fix a frozen one I had bought secondhand. It works like a dream now!
My Big Shot has squeaked loudly for weeks and then just stopped turning altogether a few days ago. Thanks to your tutorial my husband and I were able to pull it apart and discover that the rod that turns the small gear was getting stuck. We added WD40 and grease to the rod and after much turning of the handle and reassembling it's as good as new! Thanks :)
Thank you for posting this. My Big Shot gears stopped working. After disassembling it and soaking all areas with WD-40, it started working again! It was tricky reassembling it, but with lots of patience it's all put together.
Thank you for your help! My big shot locked up on me and I watched your video, took it apart, wd-40'd it and tried to put back together. Took several attempts but finally got it back. It works again! Don't have to buy a new one quite yet
Thank you for this tutorial! I managed to get a skinny die caught in the rollers & it broke leaving a piece of the die dangling. It took some muscle & patience but with your help, I got it taken apart & put back together! Kudos to you!
OMG!!!!! Thank you so.much! My big shot was totally frozen . I followed your directions, sprayed the years with WD40 and it now works like a charm!!!!!
Great video! Once I took everything apart I still couldn’t get the gears to move and was concerned. We sprayed them well with WD40 and I brushed the grooves with a toothbrush. After a few minutes of repetition the gears moved smoothly. Thanks again for your video.
Thank you for posting this. I had my platform and die stuck in my Big Shot. Taking it apart and giving it one spray of wd-40 did the trick. I am so impressed at how smooth it is running now. It took a little wiggling to get it back together but without your instructions I would probably still be trying to figure it out. This was great.
Thank you so much, I just took my BS apart and fixed it just like you said could be done. If I had not watched this video I would have thought I was breaking it. Again you saved me $100 bucks
Just managed to take apart, clean and reassemble, thank you. The clips are in place, but the pressure is stiil low, and although I can get it to cut with shims (using the magnetic platform) it is a faff. Any suggestions please?
Thank you. I'm hoping that my model of Big Shot is similar enough to yours and I can repair it. My heart sank when I heard a God Awful "SNAP" last night that sounded like a gun shot! I thought I had cracked the plastic plate. But no the handle turns but the dies will not cut. I thought there was some sort of spring in there that broke but I dont see any springs in your video. Well it's time to be brave and start getting those screws off. Thank you!
I'll bet one of the rods that rolls the rollers snapped. Now the top or bottom roller isn't on a rod so it shifts to the right or left when you try to run a die through. Take that apart and look at the rods inside those gears that she showed in the video. She mentioned a pin in each rod - pull the pin out and see if you can pull the rods out from either side. if it comes out broken, you just need to buy that rod again, slip it inside the roller, and pin it in place. I'm assuming that both sides use a shear pin mechanism to keep it locked into place. If at a loss on what to buy, take the broken piece to a couple of machine shops and ask them if they have rods already that can be drilled for the shear pins. And always ask at least 2 shops for a quote - or have a man go and ask. If a woman comes with this question, the price will be close to a designer handbag!
Super video thanks mine has gone a little temperamental but wouldn’t have dared dismantle until now. Just need to find a at to take off the hex bolt for the handle not sure if aI have the correct tool but will give this a go
