  • Fellow UA-camr Julie Torrens and I decided to send each other five craft items from our own stashes, then see what sort of project we could each come up with. We could add things we already had on hand, but we couldn’t buy anything!
I had so much fun using Julie’s supplies, and also working to honor the many things I have learned from her - especially gel plate printing. It was all really enjoyable and I loved doing it. And I learned a lot about Michigan!
To see the videos Julie made out of the things I sent to her, click here!

just an observation--while it's true that thin layers can give good results, you may want to try adding more paint to start and let the brayer remove the extra ( brayer off sheet). Otherwise on a second layer you risk pulling off dried paint before you get the plate covered. Hard to explain but you will be able to try this in another gel printing session. Keep at it! I can't tell you how much I love to gel print! Learning something new all the time.

Hi Anne!!! When you opened the box from Julie, it was like you found a treasure´s chest and it really was! When we are challenged by someone, we develop abilities that we didn´t know we could. Certainly your friend is very happy with the results. Thanks so much for sharing these beautiful moments of happiness and art!🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🌹🌹🌹🌹

This was so much fun to watch, Anne. When I saw the items you received from your friend, I was curious to see what you would make and how you would use the items, especially the coffee filters. You did not disappoint. I love your friendship-across-the-miles envelope journal, so colorful and vibrant. The gelli printing was a lot of fun to watch; I have not tried this yet. I enjoyed seeing how you incorporated all of the items from the swap and how cute it turned out. Love the coffee filter pockets. Great video! P.S. I believe the acetate ribbon is sequin waste, also known as punchella or punchinella. I just received a piece myself in happy mail and now I know a great way to use it. Thank you for all of the inspiration.

Thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it, and I know Julie appreciates your watching as well. I'm also glad to know the name of the acetate material - didn't know the name of it, but I'm glad to see they're not wasting the sequin source material! Thanks again for watching, I'm grateful for you.

Hi Anne! Love the journal you made with your challenge items! Looked like fun. Interesting...I used to live just South of Saugatuck, MI. During High School. In fact, went to one of my proms in Saugatuck. Its a lovely Lake MI town. Fun to see it in your journal!
Anyway, thanks for sharing! Sue 😊❤

Hi Anne, Julie has been encouraging me to gel print as well. I have the supplies I just need to find time to play. Between work and medical appointments it's a bit hard right now. Your coffee filters turned out really nice. I love your tags, they are so pretty. I think the acetate with holes is called punchinella (sp) I'm excited to see the final project. So I'll continue watching. 🙂 Take care. 😊🤗❤

The acetate that she sent you is called Punchinella. It is the left over from when they punch out sequins. Trivia for today. lol. This was fun. Thanks for sharing. 😃 I use punchinella quite a bit. Love it. You did a great job with the items.

Hello Anne 👋. Cute ideas today. 💡 I love to watch when people do some sort of a swap challenge . It does get the creative juices flowing . Back in the day, a friend and I were really just getting into making stamped cards. We would get together and create cards sharing stamps and supplies. She came up with a real challenge for me. In those days, we used a lot of wallpaper books to get background papers because the explosion of decorator papers was just beginning, and we had access to the wallpaper books for free. She created backgrounds on 10 different cards using the paper, and I had to create the foreground images and greetings. Then we would split the cards up. It was a lot of fun. I was thinking it might be fun for you to create a few pages for a journal, swapping backgrounds with each other or making pockets and journal cards or tags to swap with each other. You can theme it around something like a travel journal or a recipe swap journal. Just thinking of possibilities to swap besides supplies.
BTW, I think you will find the acetate hole punched ribbon is really punchinella. It is the waste product created during the production of sequins. I've seen it for sale in Etsy shops. Using it the way you did is the main way I have seen many creators use it.😊 Have a wonderful day!

Hi, Pam, and thanks so much for watching. I have often tried to find wallpaper books for my stash but they are hard to find these days. I bet your challenge with your friend was a fun one. And thanks for the word on punchinella. A new one for me, but I'm loving it! Thanks again, Pam!

@@annekenlon wallpaper sample books are hard to find now, the decorative trends are more about paint now. Dollar Tree has some contact paper I pick up occasionally to use that is fun.
