    I'm glad you tried Nanaimo Bars and butter tarts. Butter tarts are something where everyone has their own special one they like. They are basically all the same but have little local differences. In the summer in Southern Ontario there are 2 butter tart taste tours where people travel around the area trying the tarts from bakeries in each little town. Very competitive and lots of fun. People will drive past several bakeries serving butter tarts to stop at the one with the "real" butter tart. Nanaimo bars and butter tarts are must haves in our Christmas baking.

    Wow, I cant believe there was a Canadian bakery in Texas. I wonder how well they do. The animo bars looked perfect. Personally, I can't stand them. I love butter tarts, but man, they will make you fat real fast. I am sure if you polled Canadians, you would have the same results with ketchup chips. You either like them, or your dont. I am not a big fan of them, but I will eat them. One thing I honestly think would do really well in Texas would be poutine. Classic poutine with smoked brisket is mega yummy. Go back to that bakery and ask them to make a beaver tail ;).

    The butter tarts, need to be slighty warmed up, and washed down with a tea or java. I prefer having walnuts or pecans in the mix. If eaten cold, try a dab of whipping cream on em. Butter tarts are just pie dough, butter, brown sugar and pecan on top. You should be able to make at at home. Very simple recipe. Those butter tarts, unfortunately, weren't a good representation of what a true butter tart should be because they didn't run on first bite. A firm butter tart is no butter tart at all. The taste of ketchup chips varies by the brand. Old Dutch is best. Doritos isn't bad. Even Lay's is better than store brands. Pringles ketchup chips are surprisingly not bad.
    For a better version of Aero bars, try the mint flavor. They're the best.
    A bit of advice for preserving chocolate: I live in Central Alberta and keep my chocolate in the fridge. I'm actually surprised that any of your chocolate snacks made it through that heat.

    • @LidiaExplores
      @LidiaExplores  Рік тому +1

      I don't travel with a fridge, so the cooler filled with ice was my best option. I'm glad they made it. I didn't like the Old Dutch brand of ketchup chips when I tried them in a previous video. Everyone told me I should have gone with Lays, so I brought those back instead. Haha! Interesting to see everyone's opinions. I will definitely have to give the mint Aero bars a try.

    • @Shan_Dalamani
      @Shan_Dalamani Рік тому +1

      @@LidiaExplores Oh, I know you can't take a fridge along in a car. I'm just surprised your chocolate bars survived all that heat. It's good they did, so you could introduce these treats to your family.
      It's a shame Hostess isn't around anymore. Before they became Lay's, Hostess' version of potato chips were marvelous. What passes for pizza-flavored chips now is nothing like Hostess was a few decades ago. They also had fries & gravy, and roast chicken flavors (Lay's brought the latter two back for awhile last year, and while they weren't bad, they're nowhere near as good as they used to be.
      Actually, my current favorite chip flavor is bacon. There doesn't seem to be a lot of difference between Lay's and Old Dutch, so I just get whichever is on sale.

    Yupp, butter tart filling is pretty much the same as pecan pie (brown sugar, corn syrup, eggs, vanilla, salt and butter). There are variants as well. I grew up in Saskatchewan and never had a butter tart that didn't include coconut. Have had some with nuts as well. Not a huge fan of just the raisins and filling.

    Butter tarts. yum. butter brown sugar corn syrup raisins...basically.
    Raised near Vancouver BC Nanaimo bars are common place. Too sweet for me..and I don't like shredded coconut.
    Love your videos.

      I liked both. The Nanaimo bars are definitely sweeter, but I thought they were delicious. So glad I finally tried those and the butter tarts.

      @@LidiaExploresas someone who has lived in nanaimo I want to thank you for dating the name right. It's a rarity. Also calling it Vancouver Island instead of Victoria island (that happens a lot).

    I am so glad that you had a chance to try that place! Also, I'm glad that you were able to get out of Canada before the fires got worse!
    On another note, your dad reminds me of my father in law.

      Thank you so much for the recommendation! It makes me happy to know we have a spot like that in Dallas. Your father-in-law must be a hoot. 😀
