Agreed. My mom, aunts and grandma would make huge batches of tarts for Christmas. Sometimes well in advance and then frozen. Whipped shortbread as well.

I'm glad you tried Nanaimo Bars and butter tarts. Butter tarts are something where everyone has their own special one they like. They are basically all the same but have little local differences. In the summer in Southern Ontario there are 2 butter tart taste tours where people travel around the area trying the tarts from bakeries in each little town. Very competitive and lots of fun. People will drive past several bakeries serving butter tarts to stop at the one with the "real" butter tart. Nanaimo bars and butter tarts are must haves in our Christmas baking.

I love poutine. I tried it in Alberta, but I would love to try it in Quebec! I hope to plan another trip in the future and see more of Canada. There are still so many places I haven't been.

Smarties have milk chocolate M & M’s is more dark. There are so many varieties of butter tarts, even within families there are arguments about which is best. (Raisins, or plain…new varieties have chocolate pieces or nuts.) There are bakery tours just to try butter tarts.
Wow, I cant believe there was a Canadian bakery in Texas. I wonder how well they do. The animo bars looked perfect. Personally, I can't stand them. I love butter tarts, but man, they will make you fat real fast. I am sure if you polled Canadians, you would have the same results with ketchup chips. You either like them, or your dont. I am not a big fan of them, but I will eat them. One thing I honestly think would do really well in Texas would be poutine. Classic poutine with smoked brisket is mega yummy. Go back to that bakery and ask them to make a beaver tail ;). I have watched a lot of vids of Americans trying Canadian snacks and foods. You guys really love your sugar based snacks. Very cute video. All Dressed Chips are probably the top selling flavor up here now. You missed Hickory Sticks potato chips, and Mr. Big, WounderBar, Eatmore and Skore chocolate bars. All delicious.
I really love Americans, you're so much fun! As a Canadian from Nanaimo, I've never liked Nanaimo bars and butter tarts, yuck. Coffee crisp is one of my favourites. Thanks for your videos, great work!
The butter tarts, need to be slighty warmed up, and washed down with a tea or java. I prefer having walnuts or pecans in the mix. If eaten cold, try a dab of whipping cream on em. The bars, I find too sweet, but that depends on the type of chocolate you use. Semisweet is fine, milk chocolate is crazy sweet.
Butter tarts are just pie dough, butter, brown sugar and pecan on top. You should be able to make at at home. Very simple recipe. Tho its really a rippoff of the French-Canadian sugar pie except that they added pecans on top and made it smaller and chose not to serve it with vanilla ice cream. Sugar pie is better.

I enjoyed your taste tests. It am Canadian and I give a thumbs down to all dressed and ketchup chips but rest of family likes them especially dipping all dressed in dilly dip. I give thumbs up to cheezies ...my favourite...as well as everything else. Aero bars are my granddaughter's favourite bar.

A number of our treats in Canada are British (Smarties, Kit Kat etc), we just inherited them because of our Commonwealth connections and Canadian subsidiaries of British candy companies. They are available in Canada, but not the USA.

I found your videos by accident on yet another sleepless night and you are just delightful. Those butter tarts, unfortunately, weren't a good representation of what a true butter tart should be because they didn't run on first bite. A firm butter tart is no butter tart at all. A butter tart has a crispy top, a flakey crust and a pretty much liquid inside. The perfect butter tart is not an easy accomplishment! I hope you'll head north again and include my town, Calgary, in your travels.

The taste of ketchup chips varies by the brand. Old Dutch is best. Doritos isn't bad. Even Lay's is better than store brands. Pringles ketchup chips are surprisingly not bad. For a better version of Aero bars, try the mint flavor. They're the best. A bit of advice for preserving chocolate: I live in Central Alberta and keep my chocolate in the fridge. I'm actually surprised that any of your chocolate snacks made it through that heat.
I don't travel with a fridge, so the cooler filled with ice was my best option. I'm glad they made it. I didn't like the Old Dutch brand of ketchup chips when I tried them in a previous video. Everyone told me I should have gone with Lays, so I brought those back instead. Haha! Interesting to see everyone's opinions. I will definitely have to give the mint Aero bars a try.

It's good they did, so you could introduce these treats to your family. It's a shame Hostess isn't around anymore. Before they became Lay's, Hostess' version of potato chips were marvelous. What passes for pizza-flavored chips now is nothing like Hostess was a few decades ago. They also had fries & gravy, and roast chicken flavors (Lay's brought the latter two back for awhile last year, and while they weren't bad, they're nowhere near as good as they used to be. Actually, my current favorite chip flavor is bacon. There doesn't seem to be a lot of difference between Lay's and Old Dutch, so I just get whichever is on sale.
Yupp, butter tart filling is pretty much the same as pecan pie (brown sugar, corn syrup, eggs, vanilla, salt and butter). There are variants as well. I grew up in Saskatchewan and never had a butter tart that didn't include coconut. Have had some with nuts as well. Not a huge fan of just the raisins and filling. I should make a lil care package to send down of some of our more niche/regional snacks. Rogers chocolates, Purdy's chocolates, kettle corn, date squares etc.
You have to let the Aero bar melt in your mouth to get the full flavour. The Canadian commercial says let the bubbles melt. Plus with the smarties you have to eat the red ones last. See the Canadian commercials below.

Raised near Vancouver BC Nanaimo bars are common place. Too sweet for me..and I don't like shredded coconut.

I liked both. The Nanaimo bars are definitely sweeter, but I thought they were delicious. So glad I finally tried those and the butter tarts.
