Route 66 Illinois
Route 66, known as the Main Street of America, stretches from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California. The 2,400-mile journey spans eight states and three time zones, passing through small towns, sprawling cityscapes, and diverse terrains.
Established in 1926, this legendary road was the primary migration route for midwest farm workers during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s. By the 1950s, Route 66 was the main highway for travelers heading to Los Angeles. This led to the creation of local businesses along the route.
Through the influence of literature, music, and film, Route 66 has come to symbolize the essence of American exploration and adventure. Despite the efficiency of the interstate highway system, modern freeways lack the nostalgia that Route 66 embodies. The old roads that make up the Main Street of America continue to attract travelers who seek the enduring allure of the open road.
Route 66 Travel Guides and Tips:
There is an amazing free app called the Route 66 Ultimate Guide, which I used daily while on the route: route66ultimateguide.com/
I loved having the Route 66 passport! Collecting stamps was so much fun. I found our passport at the gift shop in the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame & Museum. Here’s a link with all the info you need to purchase one online or in person: www.route66navigation.com/passport/
I also had the EZ66 GUIDE for Travelers, which you can find here: amzn.to/4cLapsj (Amazon affiliate link). I found it at the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame & Museum. The maps and explanations are much more detailed than any other resource out there. It’s not always obvious where the route is because it’s not just one road from Chicago to LA. You have to know where to go. I usually studied the maps the night before so I would have an idea of what the next day would look like.
Google Maps can be helpful if you turn on the “avoid highways” feature. Without this feature enabled, Google Maps will continually try to send you back to the interstate, which you are usually trying to avoid while driving Route 66!

Music and Images:
I get all my music from Epidemic Sound: share.epidemicsound.com/jw6r46 (affiliate link). There are thousands of tracks from all different musical genres and tons of sound effects. It’s perfect for making UA-cam videos!
I create graphics and get stock footage on www.Canva.com. There is a free version as well as a paid one with more features.

I am so jealous. My mother left the USA for South Africa when I was 3 months old. Seventy years later, and still an American citizen, I am sad to say I have never been back to the country of my birth. I will live and travel vicariously through you Lidia. Have fun!

Oh, Lidia...you are proof positive to every Canadian that ketchup chips are our secret weapon to keep you Yanks in line. I'm not even a fan of ketchup chips but we're raised here on them and in a pinch I will eat a bag or a portion thereof. You should have bought a Neilson Crispy Crunch - its kind of like a Skor crossed with a butterfinger but it pre-dates both and is subtler, too. Of the immortal Coffee Crisp.

Zoleo or ryoko are satelitte service for those out in the whole world one would have to pay monthly service or the other , you`d pay just a single payment to have internet or cell service.

The km/h is metric. A system of measurement that is used by the majority of the world, and all scientists. Of course it's weird to you. Americans use an antiquated system of measurement designed by British people and no longer used by Brits.

BC'er here, one interesting bit of working-class Canadian slang is "Buddy". If you are describing or talking about a guy whos name you do not know, as in: "so buddy comes up to me and says.....". Also, "goof". This is not a word to use in common conversation, it has a negative connotation among working class people. If someone mentions a "sled", they're probably talking about a snowmobile. A 26'er is 26 ounces of liquor, a 40-pounder is 40 ounces of liquor, and whats known as a "pint' in the US, is called a "mickey" up here...unless its beer, a pint is a pint in beer lingo. Kudos on your channel, you are doing a great service by both learning and teaching your followers about this great country

Hello! I’m a Canadian from Ontario and I very much enjoyed watching your journey to Alaska. I went to Alaska in 2023 as well, but via cruise ship. Your journey was much more adventurous. lol. Thank you for sharing. And btw, Ketchup chips are good, I’m in my sixties and have been eating them since I was a kid, but perhaps an acquired taste. All Dressed are definitely yummy too. Happy Travels. 😊 🇨🇦

I really enjoyed our trip together, in Canada, my home country. I am from Ontario, Canada. I typed it this way as not a lot of Canadians know there is a city in California. I was a truck driver who, over the 30 years, or 3 million miles, and it sounds like you had a great adventure, going through BC and into Alaska. I have driven 48 states, but never Alaska. Anyway, thanks again for sharing this with us Canadians. 😂

It was terrible, awfull, savagery, crime, and barbarity at every turn, a 3rd world environment, technologically in the stone age. and Free healthcare, Americans stay home, don't come to Canada.
