More guys should drop the big supplier chains. My local distributors are 10-15% cheaper than any of the big 3 and their felt and nails are close to this guy’s prices.

You want to do business with a second grade , non warranted product and pass this to your customers? And no, it is not a threat to ABC. ABC puts on 1 of every 3 roofs in the entire country, and sell to roofers that don't want to put seconds on homes.

I stopped using GAF about 11 years ago when GAF offered $300 for a 40 year guaranteed roof that totally wore out after about 13 years..

Not at all, just weird cut, I said quietly: “keep it about main business” didn’t want to cover floors and cabinets they sell as well, wanted to focus more on roofing industry. That’s all, nothing to hide, we were both as transparent as we could be

I’ve always respected your outlook on the roofing industry, but as someone who works in the supply industry the caption of your video is misleading. We’re not crooks because manufacturers increase prices? I bend over backwards for my customers every single day, 7 days a week, and I truly care about watching them grow into whatever they want to be. I can appreciate what Van Boxel is doing but it won’t work for every contractor and it doesn’t make beacon, or any other supplier crooked for doing it the way we do.
How much does Beacon pay per bundle of GAF HDZ?
How much do you sell synthetic undelralyment you buy for $15? Do you have to sell it for $90? Is it your help? How do you exactly help? By increasing prices 7 times a year for absolute no reason but greed half of the time? That’s your help?

@@RoofingInsights3.0we dealt with 3 price increases this year…. As well as a DECREASE at the beginning of the year… we aren’t responsible for the increases. The manufacturers are. Hence why they’re the ones who send the increase letters

Yes to direct-buy from manufacturers: AND to a - LIST - of manufacturers and any information on materials-volume and or need to purchase related-roofing-components requirements, (and shipping-process-info or limitations/conditions), would be an EXCELLENT start to getting more folks buying direct from manufacturers (or from honest value providing suppliers like Van Boxel - with same info)...
I’m in Western NY and finding it hard to buy Atlas and Malarky through existing channels.
Needs to be a class action on shingle warranties. They punt to home owners insurance. In any other business if you make bad products, you don't cover them, you get sued. I looked at my local certainteed distributor. Pages of one star reviews from people who add shingles fail and were denied warranties. Scams
100% agreed. And they had class actions.

Question. I have been scammed by a roofing company. They used ABC Synthetic Underlayment instead of what the contract stated, Rhino Synthetic Underlayment. Also, they didn't use the Owens Corning Hip and Ridge Shingles it looks as though they cut them which looks incredibly horrific and don't even cut them back on the ridge vents. They are covering a whole row of vents. They never cut back the sheathing for the ridge vents to vent my attic. They only did a few feet on one side " for pictures sake". Isn't that a breach of contract by using ABC Synthetic Underlayment and Not what is stated in the contract? They also installed shingles on rotted and compromised sheathing. They were supposed to replace ALL rotted or compromised sheathing. They didn't even install the ridge vents from end to end. They damaged one and it looks off from the road. I have the one they damaged and threw away. We are going through better business now and I have to reply back to their reply. They also installed soffit and fascia and it's like patchwork and looks rippled. They didn't even complete the job. This has been a nightmare. Please give me your advice. Ty😔

Products with no warranty? No name on wrappers? Exactly the things I would never use them. He can't articulate why they are seconds but he loves buying them. Nobody is in North East Ohio? CertainTeed and Owens Corning both have plants here. Our clients deserve to have a manufacturing warranty. Unfortunately, he lies about how a manufacturer won't be warranty because of a high nail. If there is an issue with the product they certainly will replace the materials. Extended warranties from CertainTeed, Owens Corning and GAF will even cover labor for 20 to 25 years.
I just gave an estimate to a Lawyer last night. They said They have a ton of GAF claims, and “it is a shame what they put people through”. Very few claims get paid out. I would never use seconds, or Oxidized asphalt shingles for that matter, install a good Polymer modified asphalt, then you basically never need a warranty that rarely actually is worth anything for a crutch.
This video is "factual" only in ways that benefit and make him appear to be holy and righteous. This is a guy who's trying to "expose" large companies but he is tap dancing around his own I tegrity.
After 10 years, manufacturers warranties are near worthless. I worked for ABC Supply for years and watched manufacturers weasel out of every warranty claim.
He said 38 a roll but his website says 52 what’s up with that Dimitri?
He said as low as $38 (If you buy 36 pallets: container). We both sell it at $49/roll if you buy pallet or two delivered.
Different pricing for different quantities. Also new website is in progress that will be more user friendly.

Roofers who use seconds and warranty themselves had to be 1% of the 1% of the 1% .
Thats not a sustainable business model .
I’d focus on cabinets and the synthetic and ice and water business - the goal is to make money .. not do volume
As to what the Big 3 pays for products , a single location supplier has no idea what they pay for shingles and other roofing accessories .
That’s how the Big 3 roll up independents , have a fleet of delivery trucks and an army of sales people chasing roofers … even some who don’t pay their bills .

Finding Niches and the ability to turn the boat quickly in the river is how an independent supplier MIGHT survive .

Buy direct?? How? That’s something many of us roofers have explored and it’s not possible based on what our manufacturer reps tell us. So, how?
You can buy everything but shingles direct. And you can get shingles from big box store cheaper than at ABC, Beacon or SRS
We manufacture our synthetic. No middleman. You buy directly from us.

Not really direct, it’s tricky, OC is very political and careful. You still have to use supplier to deliver

We sell truckload quantities for $34 per roll. High temp $41 per roll.

How is their felt ,is it mid grade level felt. Just wondering because I'd like to know what to expect when my order comes in.
I got a semi load of miss tinted shingles, I live in a rural area where there are some pretty bad roofs that people can’t afford to do or farmers that say they don’t care what you put up there they just wanted as cheap as possible, so I feel I can still give them a quality job and not Discount, our labor, where as someone else would give them a less quality workmanship to just get the job. We have not had any issues with the shingles either.. if it doesn’t affect my manufactures extended warranties I will be getting a hold of Marissa this week and getting some felt for sure.
