    My problem with metal amp demos is that everyone that does them has a guitar tuned down to Negative drop Z flat squared. I play mainly in E and D standard, and finding a metal amp demo that showcases the higher tunings isn't easy. :/

    • @MicrowavesFromSpace
      @MicrowavesFromSpace  9 років тому +18

      I see, never thought of this!
      If the amp works with low tunings, you won't have any problems with standart tunings ;)
      This video is pretty old actually, I'm thinking about making a new and better one with different tunings then

      The amps at guitar Center are AWFUL. I'm talking about amps that I'd actually consider buying.

      ***** Amplifiers at guitar center are awful? So Engl Power ball II's, Invader's, and their killer 20 watt Ironball. Are they awful? If you say yes , you seriously need to get a q tip and scrape the shit out of your ears.

      Um, no, the only amps my guitar center carries are Line 6, peavey vypyrs and other various tiny solid state BS.

      ***** It sounds like you need to go to Guitar Center in Tampa, FL. Where they have a nice variety of amplifiers including vintage amplifiers as well as high end amplifiers like Engl, Orange, etc.

    I have this amp. Minimal pedalboard signal chain in FX loop is: Wah - 7 Band EQ - NuX Chorus/Flanger - Sonicake -Delay/Reverb - Caline Compressor - Pure Tone Buffer. No distortion or OD pedals needed, and it is a high gain metal monster, even in standard tuning. Djenty, crispy goodness!

    Finally! THANK YOU! So many have reviewed and demoed this amp and all have done so very poorly. This is perfect. And thanks for showing the responsiveness of the gain channel. And the sounds are mic'ed, or processed however, so well for the listener. Thanks. I am getting one soon.

  • @MicrowavesFromSpace

    I can tell you that I really hear a big difference. Especially when you play at home it is very useful because you can just lower the watts and crank the master volume, so the distortion will not get lost when playing at lower volume as if it would be the case with a 100 watt amp for example.
    It isn't just there to be there, it is also working, Laney did a great job with this amp!!!
    Best :)

  • @itsjustadrianfoo

    You're playing the exact type of stuff I write. Love the Volumes you threw in ;)

  • @MicrowavesFromSpace
    @MicrowavesFromSpace  11 років тому +2

    And less Watts mean that you can crank the amp way more without making it too loud. If you have a 120 Watt Head you can't crank it to the volume it really needs because your ears will fall off in your room.
    The Ironheart is good at home, and mindblowing on stage or on rehearsals.
    Check out Soulhenge on SoundCloud or search for our song "The Untold" here on UA-cam and you'll hear what the amp can do. And it wasn't loud at all when I recorded.
    Cheers buddy!

    The Ironheart is a great metal amp for the price...I have managed to get a wide range of tones from it...Whitesnake to Fear Factory...All possible with this amp...And the attenuator is just the icing on the cake..Full tube sound at bedroom levels.....

    It actually is quite versatile, I played on the amp with a guitar with single coils and the sound is super clear and crunchy. People just play metal with it because it's just fucking brutal. I mean, it is a metal amp, but not like you just can get super high gain out of it. It is a nice tube amp with an amazing stock configuration, like you actually just set all EQ knobs to noon and it sounds perfect.

    • @ragingskeptic9753

    I respect your opinion dude, and I believe that a 6505+ is better - it is another range of amps I think. The Ironheart isn't in the highest range in High Gain amps. But I think for it's price it is mindblowing, I'm using it with my band, and on stage, and I'm perfectly happy with it.

    The blackstar is a really nice amp. I've played both these amps but never really compared them. If you're thinking about up-ing the wattage then this is probably great for you, it has some really sick tones (as you can hear in the video) + the benefits of having a power-soak. It's a really versatile amp but, yeah, it's still geared towards metal.

    You have 4 switches on the Ironheart Footswitch. Lead/Clean/Reverb/Boost. If you want to change from Clean to Lead you gotta press the two buttons, to switch Lead on and Clean off because when BOTH are on OR off you are in the Rhythm Channel. And the other two just explain themselves, you adjust your amount of reverb or boost on the amp an you can switch on/off with the footswitch. It's very helpful I must say.
    Hope I could help you out!

  • @MicrowavesFromSpace
    @MicrowavesFromSpace  11 років тому

    Right, that's how I do it too. On rehearsals, as soon as I connected my amp to the outlet, I turn it on and let the tubes warm up while I'm connecting the footswitch, preparing my guitar etc... :)

  • @MicrowavesFromSpace
    @MicrowavesFromSpace  11 років тому

    So I'd say yes, this amp is geared towards metal, but is nevertheless a flexible amp. I think this a amp is also great if you don't play metal all the time, because it gets also really nice rock and clean tones. And when you feel metal occasionnally, you just play fucking massive metal with that hell of a machine.

  • @MicrowavesFromSpace

    I just received my IRT 2x12 combo yesterday and this map has more gain than ever needed. If you are using active pickups you honestly do not need the pre boost at all. The amp sounds very nasally to me so to speak so I am currently working through the eq's and trying to get the right sounds out of it. I tried my Caparison TATII passive pickups and also my WM526 with the blackouts.

    No offense man, sure you can ask.
    When the standby toggle light is on, the amp is ready to play, you can change channels, doesn't matter if clean or rhythm or lead channel. When you switch the toggle of the standby down and the light goes out the amp is like "paused". Now you can for example change the guitar, without having ugly noises when pulling out the guitar cable.

  • @Dimiguitar
    @Dimiguitar 9 років тому

    Great vid. But my problem with this series of amps has been the lack of a "liquid" feel when it comes to lead playing -- they just don't compress as you would expect a high gain amp to compress. That may be a good thing or a bad thing. Plus the built-in boost does not act like a tubescreamer. It doesn't tighten up the bass. It simply boosts the signal, which on the input can add a lot of mud to the tone. I've yet to try a tubescreamer with the amp though so hopefully it'll work as normal and I'll be able to get fluid lead tones :)

    I heard the "Paranoid" album about two weeks
    after its release in the US. I?ve had a passion for Laney amps ever since. I
    love the sound but the Laney company and their associate MDG, not so much.
    Musical Distributer Group,1 South Corporate Drive, Riverdale,
    NJ 07457, is the importer for North America of Laney. I had a Laney head, from
    a combo, with a bad tube socket. I sent the head to them for repair. After a
    couple months, I spoke with Gene Andre, the service manger. He said, "
    they can't find it and there's nothing they can do." So I'm left a Laney
    combo with no head. How nice is that? I've called numerous times and I am
    always told the same thing. "Sorry, there's nothing we can do." I
    contacted Laney in GB and received no response. I?ve also posted on their
    Facebook page. A few weeks ago a fellow youtuber contacted their friend at
    Laney on my behalf. I received an email, informing me that the situation was
    being looked into. I sent that friend at Laney the email chain, which showed
    MDG stating they received my amp for repair. Two weeks late, I received another
    email from him, saying he was sorry no one had addressed this with me and he
    would try agaon. I expect to hear absolutely nothing. Another aspect is that,
    and the emails reflect this, I had a pair of small but killer Laney amps. I
    have since sold the other one. This is no longer about the amp. It's about
    being ripped off. It's about these smug companies that don't care about us
    non-famous fans. They brush us aside with their attitude of "yeah, we lost
    your amp and there is NOTHING you can do about it." They reflect the
    "sux to be you" attitude.? So I share this information on forums,
    UA-cam and anywhere else. I just pass on the info to anyone willing to listen.
    Yes, I still have the emails with tracking numbers and Gene?s email stating
    they received it. MDG handles more than just Laney, so unless you're Tony Iommi
    or some Rock n Roll Hall of Famer, buyer beware of Laney and anything their
    North American Distributor, MDG, carries.

    If you're asking this question, you're not ready for a tube amp yet my friend ;) Every tube amp has a Standby toggle. It's to cut the signal coming out of the amp, but the amp is still on, which means that the tubes keep their temperature. It's not that healthy for a tube amp to switch in on and off too many times a day. So if you don't wanna play for 15 minutes, just switch the standby toggle.

    I can't get anything close to these tones with mine. The clean channel is good, but the volume drops dramatically on the rhythm and lead channels (and they both sound the same). With overdrive, at best you can get a 70s style hard rock sound. Without overdrive, it sounds like early 70s studio albums of bands like REO Speedwagon, Aerosmith, and Kiss. I'm returning mine and getting one designed more for metal.

    Alright. Well, first of all I don't think that this amp is too high in price, the price/performance is great in my opinion. I mean, it's an alltube amp, with 3 channels and when I play with my band I don't feel any need to buy an overdrive pedal because the distortion is already that sick.
    When you want to buy an alltube amp you have to consider that you'll have to turn it very loud to make it sound really fat. The Ironheart takes advantage of the Watt-knob.

    I actually have this amp and I used to have this cab; this is not a true representation of what this amp sounds like. The watts knob needs to be set up to at least half way (should be up to the full 60w really) and the gain knob turned down with the boost (built in overdrive) engaged, sounds so much better! As with many valve amps you need to crank it, this isn't cranked at all.

    • @MicrowavesFromSpace
      @MicrowavesFromSpace  10 років тому +1

      I was at home man. Can't crank my amp like I do on a rehearsal. Plus people often ask how it sounds at bedroom volume and there they have the answer.

    • @MyCallDespres
      @MyCallDespres 10 років тому

      Gary Gardner It is not an attenuator knob, it's just turning down the wattage and there is a reason why 6l6 tubes aren't used in small watt amps; they use either 6v6s or EL84s. Turning down the wattage knob is giving less power to the preamp and power amp so that natural saturation, gain and glory is not usually present
      Schpudd What cab do you have? I also have a 2x12 with v30s! Also I think the boost is okay but I've never tried a tube screamer with it, what are the major differences and what guitar/pickups do you usually play through?

    Not very much, usually the wattage knob is like in the video for home playing. The amp actually sounds better if you lower the wattage, and than crank the master volume. On rehearsals I use the entire power of 60 Watts then, and I tell you, it's incredible how fat and brutal this amp is!!

    HI!, thinking of meeting an order,... What exactly does de boost of the pedal footswitch?
    It is amazing but for me is an important feature to switch on and of the loop from the footswitch, i think is not possible, right?

    • @MicrowavesFromSpace
      @MicrowavesFromSpace  9 років тому

      Hi! The boost is something I actually never used until recently. It gives you an extra touch of saturation and a bit more gain, but it should be used very slightly! If you crank the boost too much the sounds gets muddy and squeezed.
      Sorry, I didn't really understand what you meant with the loop thing? :)

    Hi my friend. I would like to ask you some questions because i want to buy this amp or an ENGL Thunder 50.The engl has very good sound but less utilities and knobs. What's your opinion about these two amps? How the about the clean sounds in high volume? And last one, does this amp sound good at very low volume for home practise? Waiting for your answers!!!Thank you very much.

    • @MicrowavesFromSpace
      @MicrowavesFromSpace  9 років тому

      Hi sorry for the late reply!!
      This amp is quite good at low volume, but every tube amp needs to be cranked to really do it's job :) Never played through the Thunder.
      Yeah many knobs, well this is a 3-channel amp!
      I must admit the clean sound is not the best, the ENGL may gets that better. But for my purposes it's a fantastic amp I will always recommend.

    Would this model or the 120watt model be best for playing in a band competing with a Peavy 6505+?

    • @MicrowavesFromSpace
      @MicrowavesFromSpace  10 років тому +1

      I'm playing in a band too and I am "competing" with a 100 watt Powerball and the Laney is still not on maximum. I mean, for rehearsing you don't need 120dB coming out of your cab to be heard and on gig's you get miced up.
      This amp is absolutely on the same level as any other full tube head.

      Yeah i would have to try the IRT but no stores have them near me. I might get this used Mesa on Ebay but needs new tubes soon but i might just get a Marshall DSL 40 and switch the speaker with the Vintage 30 on my Blackstar. Mesa double rectifiers are the best but so expensive and too big and loud for home .

    • @cedblosse9429
      @cedblosse9429 8 років тому

      without od at front the amp is shit

    • @DerelictEarth
      @DerelictEarth 8 років тому

      Not necessarily, I use mine with full gain (no pre-gain) on a LTD-SC600 with SH-8 pickups and the sound is really saturated and powerful, yet tight. OD is a bonus but not an absolute necessity depending on your guitar. Also, this lower saturation really slays when you start dual and quad tracking !

    • @latespring8790
      @latespring8790 8 років тому

      turn the wattage down to let the tubes break up. this allows more distortion, but if you want a nice clean sound I would recommend to keep the wattage at full to allow more headroom

    • @DerelictEarth
      @DerelictEarth 8 років тому

      Actually if you look at the Ironheart schematics turning down the wattage will actually lead to less power tube breakup. The only tube that will be affected by this is the phase inverter.
