      Oh...never be another Van Halen, ACDC, Ozzy and on and on and on. The music industry now has nothing to do with art or even musicians. It's all algorithms and formulas run through computers to spit out crap! Rock....may not be dead but it's in critical condition.
      One thing appreciate about UA-cam in the fact that there are a lot of young muscians covering REAL music from when we were kids and keeping it alive. Some talented kids out there. At the same time, it breaks my heart because they'll never get a chance to produce music like up into the early 90s.

      @@Sabotage_Labs preach brother, I've been in the music business for almost 30 years and I've recently made the decision to stop touring and just record it home because the majority of the good venues are either closed or they don't want to pay you anymore what you're worth. But you're right Rock is in critical condition but there are a few bands that are carrying the flag high one is Big Wreck fronted by guitar master Ian Thornley, they've been around since about 98 and actually formed in 92. But yeah the business is a mere shell of its former self.

    Interviewer Chris Gill has confirmed that eddie has told him on a few occasions, and Alex once that the Hot For Teacher intro was all played by alex, with a mix of Simmons electronic drums and the Roto toms used all over that album.
    as a drummer, you can even hear the stick clicks on the riot-shield material used on the simmons drum pads in those first few seconds. it’s clear to me that Ted remembered recording the lamborghini for Panama, and misremembered it being used for Hot For Teacher. on a lot of accounts, Ted really “wasn’t there” during a lot of the recording of 1984, so I can imagine he could have misremembered easily.

    • @wflkurt
      @wflkurt 9 місяців тому

      I agree with you. Listen to any 1984 bootleg and Alex's solo at the end of HFT is pretty much just like the recorded into. I have no doubt that Alex likely played that whole thing live. You make a Simmins floor tom sound similar to the bass drums, add in the roto toms with the left hand and its a masterpiece.

    • @tanneryordan
      @tanneryordan 9 місяців тому

      @@wflkurt guitar players and non musicians will tell you it’s “impossible” to play because of one misremembered quote… 2 minutes of youtube searching can bring you enough proof that eddie’s model of lamborghini just does not sound like that… so far ted is the only one that “remembers” it like that and every other piece of evidence points otherwise. i’d say it’s busted by now

    • @tanneryordan
      @tanneryordan 9 місяців тому

      @@wflkurt also you bring up one of the greatest points regarding the live bootlegs. alex played the intro, albeit a more energetic and shorter version, live along with his “drum solo” which was that pattern repeated for a minute before the simmons drum crescendo.
      the same exact simmons sound plays from the first second throughout the entire intro. im not sure where people started the “first 5 seconds” thing because it doesnt change… not to mention the same simmons sound being in fills LATER in the song!

You did nothing wrong, you were telling a story (that no one in the business is telling), you are factual and I learned things I didn't know. As hard as it was to lose Eddie, the fans like me are still here and he left us wanting more. We miss him and the band and would love anything extra we can get. We don't want best ofs, we want what sits on shelves collecting dust that we don't have. To hear other songs were recorded for 1984 that are unreleased is awesome and frustrating all at the same time. To re release a new version of 1984 with all the lost tracks would be BIG. I get excited just thinking about that. Hopefully the record company and all those involved finally make that happen. We want THAT. We want THIS too. There's an older video of a reporter going into 5150 studio with EVH showing him around. There, EVH showed him walls of tapes that have never been heard. EVH stated they had everything captured digitally on a hard drive which crashed and was unrecoverable but all that music still exists even if it's in uncompleted form. It's now in the hands of Wolfgang and his uncle Alex. What a gift it would be if they someday could digitize it all again and create a documentary type musical album.

    Just incredible. 1984 was my first concert ever at age 18 and I adore every one of the Roth albums. Eddie was a musical genius, not just a guitar virtuoso, so I'm happy he was able to put more of his stamp on this last Roth era album. I have to admit I didn't like the fact my guitar hero was playing keyboards way back when, but I couldn't deny the catchiness of the songs. Great history and lore from a true giant.

    Hands down the best work that I’ve ever seen presenting my favorite band as a teenager in the 80s to this new generation of music lovers and filling us old timers with “Oh I remember that”, and “No Shit I didn’t know that” very well done sir.
    The powers that be shouldn’t be fighting you, but hiring you and giving you the freedom to present this bands story (which you’ve done with fairness and imagination).
    It saddens me that living band members (save Micheal Anthony) and everyone who wants to “Help” the Van Halen brand are doing nothing more then tarnishing the name and music of. They cannot come to terms on doing a memorial concert for Eddie, much less agree on the color of Shieet!!!

    After reading through most but not all of the comments, there is nothing that I can say that others have not already said..... even though this is not official it really is something special because Van Halen as a band, for whatever reason it may be, never cared to release any archived live concert performances from the DLR days 1978-1984.....VH were the most dysfunctional band in history in my book, and somehow despite all the drama they ended up taking over the world.... I have been a fan since 1978 from the first time I heard "Running With the Devil" on WNEW-FM in New York City until the day my time comes..... as a band, Van Halen is a soundtrack of my life....great job on these documentaries.... at this point now that Eddie is no longer with us, I would bet my last dollar that we will never ever see live concert footage of the DLR years.... Unfortunately they never cared about things like that..... I hope I'm wrong

    I was 20 and living in Phoenix when the 1984 album came out. I wasn’t impressed with Jump. It received tremendous airplay to the point that I got tired of hearing it. Then the song I’ll Wait started getting some air play and finally got my attention. In my opinion it was Van Halen’s best work ever. I still believe that today because it is sounds like a well written and executed song by a group that started out as a garage band in Los Angeles.

    A fan that read Valerie's book said she's the one that bought the house where the 5150 studio was made from a racquetball court . Ed (I'm guessing) was still under the original ripoff first contract with Warner Bros. Because of this , his studio was built with used equipment , some from Sunset Studio , because equipment was getting replaced . Ed had to do it on the cheap because of budget issues . In Hagar's propaganda book , he bitched about the ancient studio equipment for no apparent reason. Further proof he used his book as a smear campaign against the Halen Bros . The book was supposed to be about HIM . From what I've read over and over is Ed and Donn made demos with Ed playing all the instruments for 1984 . That's when Ed pretty much became leader of the band . I like the Michael McDonald story . I loved the interview I read in a guitar magazine where Ed told the funny story how Donn and Ed kept the masters from Teddy Templeman until they were done with the songs . To me it's proof that all Teddy Templeman did was approve of the finished tapes .

      That's interesting....Didn't Sammy know about the economic situation ? ...So he criticized the equipment in his book without going into the CONTEXT of Ed's economic situation ? ...Hmmm 🤔....From what I heard despite the old equipment DONN LANDEE did an AMAZING job re-wiring the whole studio so it worked a treat despite the limited budget......When Ed first built 5150 in interviews with Steven Rosen he said he did it for the whole VH production family but Dave & Ted Templeman didn't see it that way because it meant they didn't have so much control over ED as a creative force like they did at Sunset Sound...Ed could record any time he wanted whenever ideas came to him & engineer Donn would be there for him to strike when the iron was hot....To be honest I believe that was the way it SHOULD have been because ED was the main creative force (writing the music) & he needed to be given all the latitude he required...... Sammy wanted to believe he was 'the leader' (as Dave did) but clearly he WASN'T the 'leader' of the band....... ED was the CREATIVE DRIVING FORCE whether during the DLR period or the Hagar period.

      @@walterevans2118 I'm no expert on the equipment . To me it looks like equipment . What I like is it looks homemade . Some of the shelving of the professional equipment is just plywood . It was done on a budget and looked cool to me .

      @@akfreed6949 Well ED was always doing things on a lower budget when one thinks about it....Whether with building & modifying his own homemade assembled guitars or tinkering around with his amplifiers by connecting them to a light dimming variac. ...He was such an INVENTOR he could take stuff on a lower budget (whether a guitar or a whole recording studio) & with Donn Landee's help use it to come up with better material than with more expensive equipment.

      @@akfreed6949 And funny enough ALEX was like this too...Very inventive on a limited budget.. In a recent unearthed Jas Obrecht taped interview with Ed in 1980 he was talking about how his brother would assemble all his own drumkits , buying the shells & making them work to his custom individual requirements.

      People who grow up poor & then come into some money later seem to remain frugal in business and certain aspects of their personal life.

    Such a shame that the Van Halens mgmt were silly enough to not allow you to use real footage and audio. Dumb move.

      The bigger bummer was to find out Al was not supportive. He could have cleared the way since Roth was for it.
