Automatic Writing - a Demonstration [Esoteric Saturdays]

  • Automatic Writing has been used for generations in China for many different purposes, and in the West, probably most prominently since the 19th century.
In today's video, I give you a little demonstration of how I use automatic writing to scry messages from my unconscious mind. The message that I receive certainly gained a lot more meaning after I left it for a while and let it sit. It was only when I started to edit the video that I realised what a perfectly meta message it was for a video about automatic writing. The word "meta" is even right there! xD

Often I grab a book and try to write stuff through what the writer has already written by crossing words I don't want and leaving the words I want untouched. Most of the times these poems make a lot of sense to me and I really feel like I'm channeling something, maybe my subconscious or maybe something else but to read them and analyse them really it's fulfilling! Thanks a lot for all this knowledge, I feel like we're many seeking truth throughout this madness.

I could imagine that our subconscious is Influenced by the spirits that surround us (I mean the spirits of animals, plants and objects, I am uncertain if this is possible with the spirit of death people)

I’ve been doing this for a few years when I’ve been in a very uncomfortable state of mind and didn’t know what to do with myself. I keep my notebooks with all kinds of scribbles and sentences that really made no sense and couldn’t understand why I never wanted to throw them away but now after watching this video, I know for sure there is a reason why. I recently started feeling like my confusion in the past is making more sense now and finally understanding myself a lot more. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!

I did automatic writing a couple times. First was just writing…and the words flowed to paper. Need to find that notebook. It was a stream of consciousness. I stopped writing when I could “feel” that I was thinking/choosing the words.
The second time, a spiritual muse asked me to just write for 15 minutes, then she hung up the phone.
I wrote 4-5 paragraphs over the 15 minutes, but only the first paragraph had anything deep, meaningful, sad. It was about death and passing on. I felt uncomfortable as I realized the meaning of what I was writing.
The last line read, “The end is beautiful”
A mutual friend died in hospital within 12 hours.

That's crazy. So sorry for your loss. Is it too personal to ask for a rendition of that first paragraph?

      Here it is….
“And the man walked to the mountains, towards the sunset. The valley was cooled by the mountain spring. Day was preparing to turn to night. The veil of sunlit sky was about to part under the horizon and reveal the dust and sparkle of the universe in all its deep-hues glory. A vast Heaven, enveloping the sky. Hiding all but what is dimly lit by cold lights.
      The End is beautiful.

My great aunt was a medium and would go into a deep trance. She would supposedly produce perfectly intelligible missives in foreign languages (of which she had no knowledge). Stylistically, they would differ from her own penmanship. My own attempts are similar to what you're describing here though. Sometimes, I will leave the pen poised, and in deep meditation, allow it to move on its own. I imagine, that with enough practice, this method might yeild results. I've read that spirits honor consistency and regularly appointed times, if one approaches it from the necromancy point of view versus the subconscious. Perhaps there's ultimately no difference; just different stops on the same railway. Great videos. I really enjoy them. Thanks!

Julia Cameron's "Morning Pages" concept is a type of automatic writing. It's just about writing whatever's on your mind each morning for 15 minutes and not really thinking or censoring what your write - a stream of consciousness.

Interesting topi! I have a story about automatic writing, or a practice very similar. It was my very first magical experience, at a youth group in grade 6. I was at an anglican school run by nuns, and one of them was getting us to write a letter to god. The activity was on one side of a paper you write the letter, then you flip it over and just write. Lots of people ended up with scribbles, but mine was a very clear message answering my questions directly, signed I AM. The nun was flabbergasted, and told me that was the name of God. Not long after I started my journey. I still have that letter tucked into my bible lol. Love the video btw, keep up the good work!

Third comment, ay, to answer that last question, I use automatic writing pretty much constantly in music! It’s complete free-improvisation conveyed through some form of linguistic or quasi-linguistic medium!
I’m not super into the idea of cruddy self promotion, so I’ll just mention briefly, but I used this technique extensively in a recent piece, Crossing the Abyss. It was a wild result, the piece became a massive recursive fractal, and since I was doing this hours daily for about a year straight, it made the subject matter come to life in some not-so-pleasant ways.
Anywho, automatic writing seems to be an excellent way of dragging the unconscious into the 3D space, oftentimes with weird and somewhat miraculous results, whether that’s a good thing or bad thing 😂

Have you ever tried non-dominant hand writing in the same context? I think it was art therapist Lucia Capaccione who introduced it for "subpersonality" or "parts work". I did it, or do it, it's a powerful technique and can be a bit overwhelming. Drawing with the non-dominant hand is also an interesting practice.

    Thanks for this, brother.
1:22 is also what mine usually looks like. And generally, it is a reflection of my own subconscious,
but lately, I keep getting the message “this is Alex (I’m assuming this is a dead friend)”, and then weird actual messages that are even generally legible, but don’t make sense in context. I’ve tried different methods of interpretation, but for the most part, it almost seems like my passed friend/the specific entity is just “having fun” sort of using my body to write.
Also, it seems maybe some words are in Russian or something? Which is not a language I know, so it’s hard to interpret.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Of course, true channeling, as I understand it, can be quite dangerous and detrimental to one's health. Jeffrey Wolf Green once posited that most people who claim to channel the dead are not actually doing so, and that the rare few who are don't live very long. He likened it to running too much wattage through a lightbulb. Somehow, that seems to make sense to me. My aunt died in her early 40's.

First of all i'd like to say that I really enjoy your channel and the way you present information - in such an easy, relaxed way. And i'd like to thank you for your work!
As for automatic writing and how coherent words may or may not be. I have a friend, she is a kind of a channeler (whether of her subconscious or external entities) and while in a trance she fills entire notebooks with a very coherent and very informative text. This amazes me, because I only get squiggles (which, however, I somehow turned into a fictional fantasy race writings from my as yet unfinished graphic novel. BTW why not think of fictional fantasy languages and writings as being born as a result of auto writing sessions?), This friend of mine worked for a long time as a script writer. This makes me think that the coherence of the text is a matter of training, skills and talent. One can, maybe, draw or something else :)
I also just came up with the idea that one can auto-type (on keyboard), especially if one possesses the skill of blind typing. And yet, there is such thing as “neurographics” - a method of automatic drawing of a certain type of shapes and lines, which helps a lot with debarking and reprogramming subconscious settings (you can find more details on the net)

Clearly there are different forms of automatic writing, some of which sceptical occultists might scoff at. However, I think Manly P. Hall said automatic writing, whereby you allow a spirit or entity to take control of your hand, can eventually lead to permanent paralysis.

The idea that all 'spirits' involved in automatic writing are demons is just wrong. Sometimes so called demons might be involved, esspecially if called upon. Most probably are not, esspecially if the practicioner has called upon a particular spirit or entity other than a so called demon. Yes demons exist but so do many other spirits and entities. Also, not all the things you might call demons are 'bad'. You should read Golden Dawn Magic by Chic and Sandra Tabitha Cicero. @@JesusSaves194 As I said, the idea that all spirits are demons is FALSE. You may think they are but that is simply your belief. However, working in the occult can be dangerous and sometimes people do fall under the effect or influence of dangerous and destructive spirits or demons. Religious acts, whether performed by a zealous Chrsitian or a 'pagan' Amazonian Shaman, often has the power to lift the influence or effect of any 'negative' spirit, demon or otherwise. This in no way confirms your religion, beliefs or assertions as being true. Not anymore than the 'pagan' beliefs of the Amazonian shaman. An occultist who believes you have driven out some spirit or demon may well feel moved to follow your religion. However that does not prove your religion is true either. Religious belief and zeal can be a powerful force, but that which results from it does not mean your religion is true. Of course even if your religion is wrong, it can still provide you and others with a genuine connection and experience with the Divine.

Hi, I love your channel. It appeared in my life last year when I had the spiritual revelation. I was an atheist since high-school, now I'm almost 30y old. I have only one question, do you have any advice for people with aphantasia? I may or may not have aphatansia as I never did a brain scan. But as far as I remember when I was born I had the ability to visualize, and even more than that, to jump to other realities. One night when I was in kinder garden I realized that I couldn't visualize anymore. I told my parents about it and they didn't understand what I was talking about. Years passed and I forgot about it. I learned about aphatansia about half a year ago. And both my parents also have it. I'm not obssed to heal my visualize skills, but I'm having trust issues if things like a LBRP would work with just imagining the concepts of the entities. I'm afraid to do other experiments like invoking spirits in the black mirror. Just because I'm not sure if the banishing ritual works without clearly visualizing all. I'm kinda of a creative person, but for me visualizing means gathering/interpreting raw data, like the html code of a website. I can think of the code, what each block of code is supposed to do, but I cannot see the pretty website

Automatic writing is a common practice in Jewish magic as well, where it is called Shem ha-Kotev or "The Writing Name". Zohar, for example, is widely understood to be a product of automatic writing. It's one of my prefered magic techniques. I first taught myself as a teenager, based on AO Spare's automatic drawing instructions.

I've read about it but no have not tried😊 all the same I think I should try...have you ever asked a question prior to automatic writing and received an answer? I don't even know if it works like that, but for some reason I'm curious (that just popped in my head as I was writing this)😊 thanks again for your time -love the content

Interesting technique….. I usually will get in a trance with pen and paper and call upon a spirit and ask it to communicate with me through my mind or writing…. Usually I end up more or less taking notes vigorously as my mind informs me of an impression or conversation thAt becomes noticeable in my mind that I believe to be the entity I’m communicating with…. I could be crazy but hey that’s magick

I tried once to do automatic writing. I waited in silence for about five minutes, maybe more, then started scribbling an ininteligible mess. The only thing I could make out was the number 77 (or maybe 177, honestly, I forgot) so I went and did some research which eventually led me to a very sketchy numerology page about angels or some such, but I couldn’t make any sense of it. To this day I still believe that it was my own wishful mind playing a trick on me, but I may be wrong. I will try it again one of these days.

Automatic writing is usually just writing but automatically, meaning you are writing down words but you arent controlling, it can happen with spirit guides through you writing through you automatically. Like when you unlock a memory and the memory is in your head and you are writing it down and the words are just flowing through you.

I didn't even know this was a thing, but I remember one time during my "journey" of this stuff, I ended up doing some random scribbling, at times it looked like I was starting to draw some random thing, at some point I started using period's, which for whatever reason, my perception of the periods turned them into random numbers, which I would write down. I eventually worked all that down to some 10-digit number, which could've been a phone number, but I never called it. It was an interesting experience. (Went through like 200 pages and 2 cheap $1 store pens.) -- I also know that I've done like "mind-flow", "heart-flow" writings at times, and have even sometimes ended up with what I'd consider decent poems or passages, but I don't necessarily consider that automatic writing. It's an interesting thing for sure.
This comment was edited to remove unrelated notes for integrity reasons. (Basically I said I read some Hermetic books, which wasn't entirely true. I only read parts. Basically, I gleaned enough to start doing the inner work, but not enough for the actual practice.) (In retrospect, I should've just amended the comment. Sorry if I'm overthinking this.)

Automatic writing happened by accident for me. I was doodling and something took over. I dont actually write words although it did spell out my name and the word love but with me i ask questions up and down for yes and side to side for no. Then i tried with a book and it circled words and what i have been doing now is writing words and then my pen will circle the words to make a sentence. Im new to this and its been mostly God loves you and love yourself stuff. Its pretty bizarre.

I think the cleaner type of 'automatic writing' is really more like clairaudience or clairsentience that the person translates into words through writing. I can invoke spirits and sit at my keyboard on my laptop and write perfectly understandable sentences that do not seem to be coming from me, but i have full control over my hands. The kind of automatic writing that you do doesn't work so well for me.
