What a thrill this had to be for Trey. Hard to find a more respected musician than Wynton Marsalis , and Wynton reallly seems to be digging this. Great video!!
There's not really anything new here - it's a Forties-style blues tune with jazz changes, played in a big band arrangement over a New Orleans second-line groove. Like quite a bit of Phish & Co.'s work, it sounds a bit like the Dead with more consistent musicianship, but not quite the level of inspiration the Dead could reach at their best. With that said, it's well done: Trey is a capable blues guitarist; and Wynton+JLCO can nail anything in the mainstream jazz tradition.
That was my first thought, but why not be at an angle or facing him from the side? I guess it is a radio show but as a viewer I don't like the way it looks.
Yobanero There is very limited space on the stage. The piano lid only opens in one direction and needed to be open in the direction of the ensemble. Lastly this is decided by stage managers and the pianist had no say.
That is pretty much how the JALC do their stage shows. As best I can tell, he is syncing off Wynton,Carlos (so dam good) and the drummer, as he should do. So looking forward to seeing them again in Ann Arbor in December, as their lineup evolves.
Uggg...I don't know how to feel for Trey, I mean he obviously has musical chops and yet he puts out garbage songs like this, I mean this is totally meaningless as a song...there's absolutely no rhyme or reason to ever listen to this twice, actually it never should have ever even been written at all....jeez...

Troy radiates happiness
I nearly broke my face from smiling at the Town Hall during this song.

Anthony Salvati of course he is! It’s got a New Orleans spin just for him
Seeing all of those guys in the Lincoln center band geeking at treys solo is so awesome
You know when you get the whole Wynton Marsalis band rockin' you're doing something right!!!!
I really never wanted this night to end. Worlds collided. Faces were melted.
Turns a grey autumn home office morning into a good place. Can't help but smile and groove into the new day
YES!!!! Big Red was born to play there. Love seeing Wynton bop his head to Trey's solo.
How much fun is this!!
Trey is just fantastic! So diverse and always incorporating strings, horns, harmonies. Love it
Wynton blowing out some magick at the 5 minute mark made this a classic.
I just imagine being there oh my God fire fire fire
Wow! Trey never ceases to amaze me!!!
This is 🔥
"LEO!" I always thought this song would benefit from N'Orlean's style horns, and omg here it is!!
now THAT is a smile!
New genre unlocked; Trey fusion. Trey "Phishion" also plays. It's science.

Not even a big phish fan, but this is what music is all about. Getting the groove going and having a great time
Instant Classic!
Those tri-tones that Trey hears and picks up @5:15?? 😙👌🏼
Awesome
THIS IS THE BEST
LOOOOOOOOVE
This is beautiful :)
Damn, gotta here more Trey playing w Chris Thile
6:10 i wonder what the guy says to trey
Tasty, tasty horns!
I saw this on the livestream. I totally thought that guitar intro was going to be a N.O. style Aiko-Aiko>Hey Pocky Way>Women Are Smarter jam.
Me too!
Crowd dug it big time!
Plague On! Prairie Doggers
Sickkk
For a second at the start there, I thought the piano played was right infront of Trey with his eyes glued on his hands 😂
:49 You never get too sad. You never get too blue. It must be all those chem-trails raining down on you!
That's hot!
Dan Nimmer is fantastic on the piano!
Why in the world does the pianist play with his back to the audience (and Trey, the song’s leader)?
Because he's facing the band leader, Wynton Marsalis.

One thing this performance didn't need was a progressive commercial followed by some power chords on a mandolin.
🙂
That's great. But I alnost expected Prairie Home Companion towards the end. But the ad wasn't humorous enough.
how shitty that they cut them off.
Never got the appeal of trey amaretto.
It's Tray Avocado.
Jack Cerro my bad
🤮
Uhhh, Trey, maybe stop playing over the other soloists for a minute?
Multiple people soloing at the same time is a common feature of early new orleans jazz
Uh no.

Maybe, just maybe, this song wasn't meant for you. There's other people in the world.
@@MeiToob Ok so do you think this is a great song? or just ok ?
