    What a thrill this had to be for Trey. Hard to find a more respected musician than Wynton Marsalis , and Wynton reallly seems to be digging this. Great video!!

    Wynton blowing out some magick at the 5 minute mark made this a classic.

    New genre unlocked; Trey fusion. Trey "Phishion" also plays. It's science.

      There's not really anything new here - it's a Forties-style blues tune with jazz changes, played in a big band arrangement over a New Orleans second-line groove. Like quite a bit of Phish & Co.'s work, it sounds a bit like the Dead with more consistent musicianship, but not quite the level of inspiration the Dead could reach at their best.
      With that said, it's well done: Trey is a capable blues guitarist; and Wynton+JLCO can nail anything in the mainstream jazz tradition.

    "LEO!" I always thought this song would benefit from N'Orlean's style horns, and omg here it is!!

    I saw this on the livestream. I totally thought that guitar intro was going to be a N.O. style Aiko-Aiko>Hey Pocky Way>Women Are Smarter jam.

    One thing this performance didn't need was a progressive commercial followed by some power chords on a mandolin.

    Why in the world does the pianist play with his back to the audience (and Trey, the song’s leader)?

    • @regiramanathan6245
      @regiramanathan6245 4 роки тому +2

      Because he's facing the band leader, Wynton Marsalis.

    • @Yobanero
      @Yobanero 4 роки тому

      That was my first thought, but why not be at an angle or facing him from the side? I guess it is a radio show but as a viewer I don't like the way it looks.

    • @mikeelizondo7606
      @mikeelizondo7606 4 роки тому +6

      Yobanero There is very limited space on the stage. The piano lid only opens in one direction and needed to be open in the direction of the ensemble. Lastly this is decided by stage managers and the pianist had no say.

      That is pretty much how the JALC do their stage shows. As best I can tell, he is syncing off Wynton,Carlos (so dam good) and the drummer, as he should do. So looking forward to seeing them again in Ann Arbor in December, as their lineup evolves.

    Uggg...I don't know how to feel for Trey, I mean he obviously has musical chops and yet he puts out garbage songs like this, I mean this is totally meaningless as a song...there's absolutely no rhyme or reason to ever listen to this twice, actually it never should have ever even been written at all....jeez...
