- I drive the refreshed 2017 Audi A3 2.0 TFSI quattro. For 2017, all A3 models now include a 2.0TFSI motor. There are also several new features ranging from Audi Virtual Cockpit to rear traffic alert and forward emergency braking. Prestige models now come standard with radar cruise control and lane keep assist.

Very nice observing video with comparison that actually you can see the experience of driving cars that you are talking about. I was first interested in Golf GTD, then changed my mind to the A class with AMG pack. In Mercedes were very unpleasant. At the end I will go next Monday to finish papers for the A3. Niko the A4 is not faster in a straight line. Even with the new 2017 252 horsepower output it is now even with the A3. The A4 weighs 250+ pounds more than this car even in it's most basic trim level. It also does not handle so much better. I own an A3 and had an A4 as a loaner.

Good video. I know I am a couple of years late on this but I just traded a 2017 GTI for a used 2017 A3 Quattro. Interesting contrast. I miss the manual in the GTI but love the Audi style and AWD.

How's the A3 been so far?
Neil Sahay It’s been great. The dealer experience has been terrible. There’s a recall on the passenger airbag wiring harness. It’s been in for two days for that and it’s still not done. They broke a special tool that is needed for that job and had to put everything back without the fix. Service is typically double the cost for a VW with the same drivetrain. I kind of expected that but I still don’t like it. Otherwise the car has been really nice. I have zero complaints. I was not expecting AWD to feel so much better even in dry conditions. Particularly a Halsey system that is so front biased. The car is well balanced and feels quicker than my GTI with the same power. I would prefer a touchscreen over the version of MMI that they have in this one but it is quick and responsive and CarPlay works nicely. Trunk is small and shallow but I expected that. Really solid car. I have zero regrets.
Excellent video.. I purchased an A3 Premium Plus with all options including sport suspension but not the sport seats or wheel... Terrific car and reminds me in size to some of my older 3 series Bimmers but this car loaded with tech, love the virtual cockpit, the handling, the real sportiness of the car, great B & O sound... Mine glacier white with the two tone brown & black interior.. Also love the sequential turn signals and LED lights.. Perfect for an old timer like me who still likes cars to handle like a sports car... Thanks for the video New Car Spin, loved it, very well done..!

I bought a CPO 2017 A3 loaded...sport package, everything. Put a stage 1 ecu/tcu tune on it. Beast mode! 294hp 328tq!

You know whats awesome? When the audi dealership puts an invitation out to all audi customers/owners to come to a special feature movie.... where Audi car is featured.. the newest captain america movie is what we got invited to!!! Get this, you pull up and it is a parking lot filled with all Audi vehicles!!! Then you get out your camera like i did and drool after seeing a white R8!!! This car was a piece of luxury that demands attention even in park!!! So, they paid our families movie tickets, each free popcorn& drink.. and free pizza prior to the show... kids got stickers and fun collectible stuff... all audi reps in the foyer to welcome and talk.. plus they drove audi new models to display prior to show!!!! Once you get into Audi car owner family... you get to experience all the perks of this fabulous machine!! And Props to the marketing department at Bergstrom in wisconsin for putting on such a first class event!!

Great review! Would you still recommend older models of the A3 like the 2012-2015 models of the car? I'm really loving the A3 size and practicality. By the way I LOVED how you compared the A3 to the Golf models, because I was actually considering the two cars and needed a different perspective on the two cars since they are both similar in price and features.
+Bryan Lai I bought a CPO 2015 A3 2.0 quattro on New Years Eve. I bought it as a commuter car. It's the perfect size, hauls ass, and it's actually the cheapest insurance I've had on an Audi. The one I found had about 20k miles and the original owner bought Audi Care. I get free scheduled maintenance and a 100k warranty. I paid about the same as that new 2016 VW Golf GTI S w/ DSG I drove in my gti vs gli video. I'd stick with the A3 sedan and avoid the hatchback version. If you need the hatch, get the Golf. We are on our second Audi.... our favorite has been the A6... the front grill is soo important to my husband.. this front end looks sharp... we have black leather interior with woodgrain detailing.... took forever to find one that did NOT have " noughut" camel color interior... uggghhh maybe on a white car.. but ours is a dark deep blue slate color nearly as dark as black but not...

New Car Spin A3 is a fantastic car. Subjective of course- For me personally, I just prefer the GTIs steering wheel and red accents. Performance wise, the GTI is lighter and is pretty awesome with some sticky summer tires. AWD is awesome off the line of course. Both can be retuned. Tough call. I'm actually contemplating both of these cars

NMEofdaST8 I ended up getting a 2017 GTI in Sport trim with DSG. The car is pretty awesome. Great daily driver. Really has 2 personalities going from normal to sport mode. I got a decent lease. No clue what to get next! 😲

Really considering leasing one of these. How's the B&O sound? I know it won't touch the A6 with those fancy "reflectors" but it's hard to upgrade sound aftermarket with these pop-up screens and "acoustically engineered" systems. How does it compare to the newer Fender system with the little 6" sub?
The B&O on the A3 is not as wholesome as the A6/A7/A8, but there is a significant price difference. I have B&O in my A6 and it's astounding compared to the Bose. As for the A3, B&O is well worth it. If there's anything tech-wise you can pay to upgrade in your car, it's the stereo. A good stereo will never go unnoticed and it will never be outdated over time. I wouldn't get a VW without a Fender. The Fender is loud compared to the B&O. I do miss the Monsoon system they had in the MK4 Jetta. Overall, B&O is the only way to go, and I might just do a demo for you (even though some audiophiles can argue it doesn't make a difference). New Car Spin I watched that vid with my headphones and it def comes through. I'm not a serious audiophile, but I definitely appreciate a nice stereo. My wife has a Golf R with the Fender and an upgraded sub would almost make that system enough for me. I can imagine the A3 being a baby A4, but to be considered a baby A6 must be high praise for the A3.

+Sam Schaefer Sport package includes"Drive Select" which allows for switching between comfort, Auto, and dynamic modes for steering and engine/transmission, and as a result, the car changes behavior.
That feature is in the S3 as part of the Drive Select feature. I just got one this weekend, and it makes a pretty difference in the sound of the exhaust. The A3 has a much quieter exhaust though, so Im' not sure it would make much of a difference. It's fairly significant in the S3, but they're both sweet cars.
+Heath Fournier Sport package in the 2017 A3 includes drive select, among the sport seats and flat bottom steering wheel. Also, drive select now tweaks quattro for rear bias when is dynamic mode, just like the new TT model.
NCS you a big guy how comfortable is that seat?
+Big Pun The standard seat is fine. I have it lowered all the way and the front vision borrow is raised about 50%. The seat is firm, the bolsters are not too "jabbing" in my side. The trick is to get into the seat so that I'm centered. All Audi and VW front seats are further inboard to protect in a side impact, so getting all the way over and into the seat can be a chore. When planted properly, it feels perfect, with plenty of headroom. If my knees hit the steering wheel, I know that I'm not fully back against the setback or the steering wheel is too low. This happens if someone else drives the car and slightly disappointing since it doesn't have seat position memory. I avoided the sport seats because the seat bottom is too confining and my balls need space. I didn't care for the S3 seats because I felt perched up high and it was noticeably worse than the standard seats.

I have more fun in the A3 than most other Audis. I do love the b8.5 S4 manual. But the A3 interior is far more practical and up to date.
New Car Spin thanks for the feedback! I’m a fellow Austinite by the way. Reasons I might be pulling towards the A4 is the interior vents, the 19 speaker B&O system option, etc. Whereas I like the smaller/sportier look that the A3 has to offer. If one of them were blatantly cheaper, I’d probably lean one way. But on the used market, I find both between $25K-$30K. Tough call!

if i turn off the mmi (hard press the volume knob) it stays off by default when i start the car.

Yes. There's a button on the instrument panel, but it doesn't retain your choice when you get back in the car.

Outside of insurance, if you buy Audi Care prepaid service, your only expenses would be tires and brakes. Tires should last through 30k miles and brakes 40k-60k miles. It all depends on how you drive.

There are 2 engines in the A3. They both use the VW EA888 turbo 4. One produces more torque while the other produces more hp. Oddly, the one with more torque is fwd, while the one with more hp is quattro awd.

Audi is my favorite engineering, but I just can’t force myself to like this interior. This is the first time I never liked an Audi interior. I really think they should have added more to the console.

The biggest hazard i can see with this car is the visibility safety. The rear headrests and that B pillar are huge. It limits your rear vision. I wish they made this in a coupe. The only draw to this car is that my local Audi dealer is offering this car for 299 a month with no money down.
Please dont ever talk about the jetta or golf in comparison to the audi ride!!! This car is brilliantlly smooth at 110 mph on a wisconsin interstate!!! Getting high performance tires will help your car hug the road around a curve fot flawless manuevering!!! You need to show everyone what this All wheel drive car is made of... all of the interior features are fine.. but audi drivers will be bored unless you show the power it has!!! Good luck!!

This car has an interior complex. All the other Audi models are updated but the A3 is still dragging along the old interior. VAG won't update the A3 interior until 2018. The A3 is obviously not a priority for VAG.
Uh... 2017 has virtual cockpit. The car was released in 2015 in the US. Is "2 years" too old for you, or is it just a big number? You should point your bitching to the A6/A7 interior, WHICH HAS NOT CHANGED SINCE 2012.
You must be living under a rock cause the first Audi A3 was launched back in 2002 as Sportback and the second generation A3 was launched summer of 2003. The interior and front console has practically been unchanged since then. It's the same circular air vents, the same form factor on the cockpit etc. Yes, a new virtual cockpit has been introduced but the design concept has remained unchanged. The digital display feature is still just a feature implemented into yester years design switching analogue with digital. That's all. As I said, all the other models in the Audi fleet has received several interior upgrades and changes but the A3 is lagging behind as untouched. VAG just confirmed that the A3 will be upgraded in 2019 (perhaps late 2018 for some). The Q3 that entered production in 2011 is based on the A3 and that model premiered with the newest front console and interior design so I suspect the A3 Sportback and Sedan (or Saloon if you like) will inherit the same interior system.

The current layout in the A3 maximizes the cabin space. 3. The A4 interior in an A3 would not due to cabin size. 4. The A3 uses a different architecture than all other Audi models except for the TT.

The A3's interior is only slightly better than a top of the line GTI. It isn't worth $20k more than the GTI. The A3 optioned the way my GTI is would have been $50k. I'm sorry that is just far too much for that car. I can get a Golf R for less which is a much sportier and exclusive car. If you feel that spending that kind of money on an entry-level Audi is an intelligent decision, then you are as bad a decision maker as you are a car reviewer.
