What a lovely man.
100%
Such a great song. The entirety of White Ladder was the soundtrack of my life in 1999, splitting up with a girlfriend after a long relationship and moving to a different county and being alone. I played White Ladder in the car, in the house constantly and I still play it now. Thanks for the music and all of these little lessons you are giving.
It's mad how easy music and specifically albums or songs can do that. They're like a time travel device
@Beat Orphan it was the reverse bongos
@Beat Orphan well, this is it
"No barking dogs in this one...
Quiet please!" 😅🤣😂
BEST songs ever. Can't wait to learn it
I listened to this song for 5 hours straight coming from Bend Oregon to my home one nice summer day. Thanks
Who cares what the names of the cords are when you can play and sing like you you're the man David
David, you’re one my favorite artists of all time, and you’re blushing about your “lack of music terminology”? You’re aces, mate.
Love Him💖
Absolutely one of my favorite songs of all time. I still sing along to this at least once a week.
How refreshing and honest, you only need to know that it sounds good!!
Thanks, David.
This was my first song of yours I heard. I fell in love.
Genius. Thank you David
One of my absolute favourite songs of all time. Dave you’re a legend!
Thank You Sir for blessing us with your amazing talent
I love this whole series. ❤️
Humility is a very rare gift and for a living genius to have it is so inspiring. You are very special human being David
Absolutely love this song…
You can’t beat DG! Proper all the way.
Brilliant series of lessons and such a great down to earth guy. Thanks David 👍😀
I'm another one who used to play White Ladder album constantly and still listen regularly. 😊 Another big favourite is Lost Songs.
What a lovely bloke
Brilliance. Thank you Sir David!
Thanks for sharing, still need to rescue my piano from the cellar & try & save her. Getting inspired watching these.
Love it my friend... beautiful ❤️ song ! Thank u
Don't need to know the nitty gritty stuff when you are a genius. Beautiful song.
Probably the best love song ever written. Thank you
I remember you did this on a jools Holland show and your performance will stay with me forever, thank you for bringing this song into my life David 🙏🏻
I love these videos. Please keep it going! White Ladder is a masterpiece, but does anyone else think “Draw the Line” is the most under-appreciated album ever?? Hint hint...
Thank you for this song and tutorial, David. This is the defining song of my marriage and I am learning it so that I might play and sing it to my wife at a significant anniversary sometime in our future.
Thank you very much Mr Gray love these lessons
You are a legend
Criminally under-rated artist in my opinion.
I think David has just been "sussed" - by himself!
Great stuff
Love these videos. SO down to earth.
I totally get the "tschtsch tsch tsctschstch" bit at the end.
My absolute favourite thankyou ! I don't play the piano but this was the first song I ever learnt on guitar 😊
Thanks for this!
I wish I could see through your hands, but I’ll get there. Thank you for doing this Mr. Gray.
Always incredible content! Love it!
My favourite song from this album has to be Sail Away. Beautiful. Thanks for posting this video, David.
Wow !
Love You David Grey! (Get intouch okayxxx
Thank you! Such a beautiful song.
You’re the best!
Thanks teach
Amazing insight from the man himself. I would love a piano lesson on “You’re The World To Me” please please please.
David is the man. Thanks!
This music is beautiful and timeless.
Good luck with the Hibernian job. You'll smash it.
Awesome
Outstanding.
This song makes my heart hurt every time I hear it. It's so great.
Awesome David
I salute you sir!
Love it!!
Love it 😊
Coming to New Zealand yippee
This is so awesome!!💖🦄
Thanks man.. really appreciate you doing this, as it nice to see people play from the heart and soul...I use to think that just because I didn't know my music theory as much as I just love to play I was not gonna be able to make great Music.. but then after years of being inspired from artist like you . You made be understand that aslong as you can play from the soul and it feels/ sounds good what you play then the rest is secondary. It's being able to hear and feel the music means so much more. 😎✌🏼
nice stuff
Such a great series and these songs from White Ladder takes me back to when it was first released :-)
This is awesome David. Thank you so much. Would you ever consider doing a run down of the equipment in your studio, the preamps etc?
Please come to São Paulo Brazil
DAVE: Could you kindly post an arrangement of an acoustic guitar version of this? Thank you.
That's what i was looking for.
I play C Em Am G in a strum that goes D UUU D. Would like to see David doing this on guitar only.
I play C Em/B Am G/B for the verses, and F F C G F F for the choruses. That C, B, A, B pattern on the root is very distinctive, so I think it's important to accent it if your strum/pick skills are up to it. I played this song hundreds of times in my younger days, and no one ever complained about it. Just play along to the original recording, and you'll have it in no time.
If you wish to be more accurate than my version, you could scan down to "American Composer's" comment. Just take his chords and move them all down a half-step (to the key of C). I'll probably be giving that Sus and those other funky chords a try some time. But I can vouch for my version as effective, if not entirely accurate: I was understating things when I said "no one ever complained!" ;)
Last comment: whether you try it my way or with the extended chords, I really think the bass notes are super important, so try to get them to follow that C, B, A, B pattern if you can.
@@visitur4914 Thanks for the shout out! For a pretty faithful reproduction of the song on guitar, use capo 1 and play these chords:
C(9): x32030
Em7: 022030 (you could do 020000, but the other one is a better voicing)
Am11: x02530 (if that's too hard, you can play regular Am7 x02010 or A7sus x02040 instead)
Em7
F: 133211
C: x032010
Gsus: 3x0013
Have fun!
❤
Would anyone be kind enough to list the chords hes using here as i cant find them anywhere. Or even better do a slower tutorial 😊😊. Absolutely love David . Ive seen him live 12 times now and will continue to every time he visits ireland.
David can you please break down the song "Flesh" on guitar!
What a cool 😎 guy …. I need to try playing this …. As a guitarist that should be funny
Funky little A flat :)
david u are antimainstream i like ur faith
He's some boyo o tell yea.
So bummed, Troutdale re sale tickets only. Never had this problem in the Little Bee !
Don't know david if you read these comments but cud u do ur version if shine on acoustic? Like the dublin gig at the point. You know the one qq🙏
01:22 _But it was correct to call it_ «sus» 🙂 _(being a beautiful suspended fourth!)_
Yeah, sis when it replaces the third 😉
Angus Robins _in fact, in this case it replaces and then resolves to the third major_
Can anyone tell me the notes he's playing on the right hand? I can see both chords seem to have an F, and it looks like they are F, C, Eb and F, Db, Eb. Is that right? I'm struggling to tell from the video. He's saying Db, F, Bb, Ab, but that just seems to be the notes in the left hand?
I may be 12 nearly 13 but damn my parents taught me well with music
So I've had it right all these years if not for a transposing during recording lol I have the recorded version basically then not the intended key. Can sort that out
Love the way you play great sounding chords, but don't know what they are called, and in fact, don't even care.
Exactly how I play guitar.
If it sounds great to me, and i can play it, I don't give a sh*t what the chord is called, I can transcribe it to TAB if I need to write it down.
Thanks for posting this Mr Gray but it's not clear what notes to play.
Barking dogs is my choice 🙂
Dude is tweakin fr 😂
you call this a lesson man? get real !! lol
🥰💚🏴👏
