I knew of Mark from the Screaming Trees, but became a fan when he was with QOTSA. I recently saw QOTSA and they were dedicating a song to Mark (In the Fade).
@@mlwtennessee322 he was NOT debilitated by opiates at the time of this interview or anytime after. His addictions are well documented elsewhere but he was already clean here and stayed that way until his passing. He left because it had just run it's course, it was Josh's band unquestionably, and it was a mutual parting. He wanted to create his own vision and his wealth of material after Queens is a testament to that! Junkies don't put out the volume of music he did. His book Sing Backwards and Weep is excellent, I've read and re-read it a few times now.
Those two in the same band - just perfect. So grateful to have experienced that live. What a tragedy that we lost Mark and how nice to see him laughing.
"any bizarre situations you've been in" "how much time do you have?" After reading Sing Backwards and Weep, and Mark bringing Josh while he tried score, that line is far funnier.
To see in retrospect, that young Josh is the same open wound as old Josh, with what transpired from then til now… he is a brave person because he lets himself to love!
Lanegan smiling and laughing with Josh is everything. My question is - what effect was the camera person going for? Nauseaus? Thanks so much for posting ❤
This is exactly how all TV that wasn't aimed at old farts looked at the turn of the century, sure it looks jarring now in HD but fuck me did it look fresh on a little 12" tube TV back in the day. It was the golden age of "alternative" TV, festival reports and video game related programming in the day, hardcore porn in the night to help pay off their channel slot, what more could a young adult ask for?
I was thinking the same thing. I think he was sober at this time regarding to his memoir. Layne died a year after this and Mark wrote in his book that he tried to talk sense to him in some point when he had gotten out of drugs.
mark looks healthy, it's ironic and funny how in 1996 Josh Homme was in Mark's band, "screaming trees," and in Mark's biography, the sections with Josh are fucking hilarious as Josh is still a naive punk ass kid from the desert, watching this with a new perspective of information and stories puts it into a new grasp of things, times change yo.
My influences were all lanegan, cobain, Peter Steele, all struggled with drugs and alcohol. Sucks how that junk held these guys back...oh what could have been
Mark is looking great here.
Beats my other job washing dishes
Good old times when Lanegan was with Queens
Hell yeah

Why did he leave? I never heard the official (or unofficial) reason.
@@mlwtennessee322he left touring with them around 2004 to tour/promote his album Bubblegum. He also was debilitated by his opiate addiction.

This is right after the 90’s, when everyone filmed band interviews like that.
yeah it feels like I'm on acid

in pop culture media this camera style was normal. especially in germany, a sign of the times.
This is right after Mark got sober
He relapsed

Mark looks so good in this. I read his last book about his addictions, the fact he survived as long as he did was something.
