  • Cartoon Hot Rods from mind of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, legendary custom car builder, Hot Rodder, pinstriper, Rat Fink creator & Entrepreneur. No Hot Rod is alike and Ed takes that to a new level. You'll see classic cars & trucks that have passed through his hands & Big Daddy inspired builds such as Dave Shuten's take on Roth's Mysterion Hot Rod. You'll see Tweedy Pie, arguably the most recognized custom T-Bucket in history, a 1923 Ford T-Bucket on a 1932 Ford chassis. Tweedy Pie is a textbook example of spirited custom car design in the 1950s & 60s. Check out one of Big Daddys favorites, The Beatnick Bandit. Displayed is The Wishbone, a custom car one discarded in the dumpster by Roth out of frustration & saved. The Outlaw was Roth's first custom car build using his fiberglass & plaster method. Outlaw is built on a 1929 Ford Model A frame with a 1950 Cadillac engine. The 1964 Orbitron is a futuristic slingshot designed custom car by Roth nearly lost to history (a dumpster is Juarez, Mexico!?) & saved by Dave Shuten. You'll see Ed's 1956 Ford F100 shop truck. You'll get an intimate look at the Iron Orchid, a period correct 1934 Ford custom Hot Rod built by Dave Shuten. The wild Gary Reid built & Ed Roth inspired BubbleRay Corvette is on display. Heavy Metal Customs The Smoker Rat Rod 1932 Chevy is also displayed in good Hot Rod company. Many thanks to ‪@corvettemuseum‬ for hosting this incredible Ed "Big Daddy" Roth Hot Rod classic car display. Be sure to visit the National Corvette Museum if you find yourself in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Ed Roth was the King of Glass and Class. A true Multi-Talented Artistic Genius of Imagination and Design turned into Reality. To this day there is no equal. A Twentieth Century Michelangelo.

I am one of the Rat Fink artists who created an art piece shown in this video. We got the chance to drive across the country for 28 hours to come to this exhibit. I wouldn't have done that for just anything. The amount of respect and work that went into this exhibit for Ed was so far and above anything I could've imagined. I talked with some of the lead people in charge of this exhibit and the stories behind why they decided to do this exhibit literally brought tears to my eyes. Being there personally with Ed's wife and seeing the joy it brought to her and all those around it could not be matched by anything really out there period. I just want to express my thanks to everyone who made this possible. It is because of people like these that a new generation gets the chance to grow up with Kustom Kulture and a desire to work on cars and maybe would not have had the desire to do so beforehand.

It was fabulous & brought tears to my eyes as well. Every kid in America (and adult too) needs to walk through that exhibit. Thats what I was trying to accomplish with the video work. You are a very talented artist. Love the quotes, the plaques, the art, everything about it. Thank you @Seth Jensen for the thoughtful comment. I'm 39 and missed a great era. I'm really enjoying the comments from folks that built the Revel models, etc growing up - SAM

Boy this brings back a lot of memories in 1972 when I was 12. I met. Ed Big Daddy Roth at the Autorama at Cobo Hall in Detroit he was a really cool Kat he was drawing pictures by one of his custom cars I got a picture of the Rat Fink holding a sign that says I'm a U S Taxpayer I support 10 welfare recipients and myself, signed by Ed Big Daddy Roth and I still have it. And at the same time I met Wolfman Jack another really cool Kat

Well ! What an education ! I'm old enough to remember the cars and artwork but had no idea of how inspirational Ed was. He must have been a pioneer for his paintwork as well as his custom bodywork. I'm trying to decide whether he invented candy/pearl or was the first to employ that paint. I do know that you had to apply 15 + coats of cellulose Laquer over the base coat in the early days. (That promptly started turning yellow and cracked from day one!) . Modern 2 pack eliminates that now . Well if l win the lottery l'm definitely going to make this my first port of call . Thankyou so much

Is the exhibition still there...OR did it leave? Where did it go? I've been a big fan of Roth and his creations since I was a kid (born in 64)....as a side thing, I deal in art. I presently have an original Roth air brushed painting hanging in my living room...and when I bought it over 20 years ago I paid a pretty penny for it. One of the best investments I ever made. When people see it....they are speechless. Would love to own an original Von Dutch piece of art.....Long live Roth, Dutch, Jeffries, and Barris......Fuc-ing awesome vid..it's like being there - THANK you uploading this. You made my Saturday..but if I HAD known about this, I would have driven DOWN to see it. I've been to the Nat. Corvette museum before (before the Sinkhole incident - thank God) and it is EXCELLENT. Also, if you're in the area - it's an absolute MUST to tour the Corvette plant! Best car manufacturing tour I EVER took in my life (and I've done Rouge and Toyota)
