Bought my 2001 for $45,000 over 20 years ago. Still drive it every day (unless the weather is really bad) and it looks and runs like the day I bought it!
For the right price, these cars are amazing. I think it's the perfect "intro" car for someone wanting to get into cars and wrenching. And yes, if you get a 20+ year old V8 sports car, you're going to be doing some wrenching!
The c5's are the best bang for your buck sports car made! I have a red 2000 convertible z51 6 speed and I love it! Keep on working on your vette, you won't be sorry.
Bro, I just discovered your channel. I have a black 2014 Mustang V6 Premium just like you and was also thinking about getting a yellow Corvette C5! Lol Cheers from Canada!
Funnny.... I went from a black 2014 Mustang V6 premium to a 2004 yellow C5 vette. (I dumped the Vette after ~18 months of ownership due to too many electrical issues.)
These issues are nothing compared to what I had on my bmw z3😂 but you got a great bargain! And a great reliable car! I personally don’t like how that exhaust sounds but everything else looks great 👍 love the car!
It looks like you have green coolant in the overflow tank...that could have caused the radiator to leak. These cars are meant to have dexcool (orange coolant).
Ok, always keep in mind this is a HOBBY CAR not a daily. $8,000 is ok for the issues it had or still have but try not to run before learn how to walk, repair everything step by step. The car looks fine to me for 8k. Suggest you to watch My Corvette life channel, that guy will bring you inspiration. I fix my 98 vette one step a the time and now the car looks awesome, love it! One last suggestion, be carefull with the cheap parts on Amazon and Ebay, sometimes is better spend a little more than spend in the cheap BS and then have to buy the good stuff.
Absolutely agree with you. I've been working on it for the past 5 months, weekends only, following all the UA-cam channels. Don't worry this is my 3rd car so I don't drive it too much 😉
Nice car! I can tell it was repainted because when you open the door up all the rubber was painted over which is not factory. Did you paint it yourself or did it come like that? Thanks
I’m sure with 125,000 miles on it that car has been beat on pretty good. And it doesn’t matter if it’s a stick or automatic people are still gonna beat the hell out of it, not sure shy you think since it’s an automatic it’s not gonna get ran hard.
All the years are good but if you have an option to pick, go for 2001 and up. Z06 comes with a more powerful engine (405 hp at the crank as compared to 345~350 hp).
With all due respect... you needed to do more research on before the purchase. 1. Most C5 issues are in the 1999- 2002. (You bought a base model) most reliable is 2004 upgraded model. 2. 125K for that price point your going to have some issues. 3. Exhaust change expense wasn't a requirement that was a preferred cost add right ? 4. The best thing about the C5 is the timeless body lines, sleek look, pop up headlights, & driving experience that still draws attention to this day. 5. I own a upgraded model C5 2004 triple black convertible corvette w/ only 28K miles myself..so my comments are vested & have substance here.
@@motornut I am old school, I think crome looks great on anything, I really like the yellow color, I look for one first but couldn't find a good quality car, now I have a 2000 c5 white love it 😊👍
@@user-zt3zq8uf1z Thats great, not many people are fond of yellow color, I personally love it, especially on a sports car. White is my favorite color lol, you cannot go wrong with it. I was trying to buy one in white, 1997 but someone beat me to it. You should make a video of your car as well :)
Your title is deceptive. The things you list are not really common only to C5s, they are more common to a poorly researched purchase. And...several of the things that you list as 'common' C5 repairs are your preference. You take the purchase price and the absolutely necessary repairs and you got a deal dude. $9G + $4G in legit repairs and you're probably $3G or $4G lower than what that would list at. Don't blame C5s for your poor purchasing skills.

Absolutely! The best part is that its relatively easy to work on these cars, plus it makes you feel happy 😊
Also, these wheels are from C6 Corvette ZHZ trim, they were originally chrome but I got them painted black. I love multi spoke wheel so I got these.

Well done on fixing everything. I've been fixing up a '99 that belonged to my uncle and hadn't been used for 9 years.
Thank you. Wish you the best on fixing all the things, the best part is that this car is very easy to work on.
I truly appreciate the work and the video. Then you for sharing this. Your car looks amazing.
Thank you, really appreciate it!

$8K @ 125K....You did fine my friend.
Is it normal to have a slight shaking when idle in C5s (very subtle) maybe spark plugs or misfire?
Slight shaking is normal with bigger engines. If its too much then its concerning. If it's misfiring, you will feel the engine jerk when you rev it.
