    Disclaimer for everyone, The LMC5 Column lock module is only needed for manuals 97-04 and automatics 97-00. 01-04 automatics don’t need it they aren’t prone to locking up and have a different module that doesn’t fail

    Good tip on the LMC5 Column lock device. Check to see if yours already has one in the passenger side footwell first. I think 50% of the C5s probably already do as you mentioned - they all FAIL and you will be stuck.

    For column lock issues, I used to bang the bottom of the steering wheel mount because that's where the pin is located. Would usually release. Did that until I got it fixed...Not saying its the best option, or a good one, but it worked for me in some tight middle of nowhere situations.

    Well, I guess I have been sorta lucky in that I had only the column lock issue. GM paid for the tow(I had a backup car to get to work, luckily). Have about 22,000 track miles on the car since '01, and only have the oil loss at high RPM issue from ring flutter. I am second owner, (8,000 miles when I bought it,) but as you know, second place is the first loser. I just keep a couple quarts with me at the track, and keep it 1qt overfilled, so far, knock wood! I think this covid winter, I will do the valve springs with the biggest ass cam I can drive! Thanks for the motivation . AGAIN!

    Literally suffered steering column lock problem this week even I have watched your video like one month ago!! I just fixed today with LMC5 and I regret not accepting the advice in the video at first LOL! Now I'm also thinking to replace the springs of my z06. As a person who often goes to the track(I live in Florida and my last brz went to the track once or twice a month), I really hope to get advice from you!! Do I only need to change valve springs or is it better to change the rocker arms and pushrods, etc.. together? Because I only got this C5 z06 for one month, I am still wondering whether to replace the cam.. I want to keep the original factory power temporarily to get acquainted with this car.

    • @Beezy_Builds
      @Beezy_Builds  3 роки тому

      Haha hey at least you got it done brother no harm no foul! If I was you I'd do the upgraded pac 1218 springs(to give you some room for a cam upgrade in the future so you wont have to upgrade again), some BTR one piece push rods, and a rocker trunion kit,that will bullet proof your valve train at stock power level. But if you are tracking regularly in FL switch to a 40W oil rotella t6 works well and fill it one quart over (if you havent already) , get a oil cooler, improved racing oilpan baffles, and a aftermarket balancer because the stock ones literally come apart even with normal driving. That will be enough to get you by but a upgraded radiators is 100% in your future these vettes run hot hot

    didn't know what valve springs were until I watched this. so is there any signs or symptoms that you would notice if one brakes while you're driving? and how often should they be replaced...my 1999 c5 has 66k miles but I'm not sure if they've ever been changed out. it's stock other than aftermarket mufflers.

    • @Beezy_Builds
      @Beezy_Builds  3 роки тому +1

      Honestly for a lightly driven car probably once every 100k. The base c5s didnt have the valve spring issues but they can still fatigue and break over time. Symptoms are misfire codes, decrease in performance all the way to possibly loosing a engine if a valve falls in the cylinder while its running

    the value issues are restricted to the Z06 within a well identified time of production, identified by the vin numbers. I can't dispute the man's feelings of valve train insecurity , but do dispute that the stock Ls1 engines have this issue. It was only experienced with a portion of the Z06 production run.
    I would suggest he nail down a few facts before any more well intentioned helpful hints. Reason alone should have warned him , since so many LS engines are in common use, and are almost a routine engine swap, that his information was logically flawed, which might have led him to google the specific information. I appreciate the man must be busy, but false repair information must always be resisted. This car attracts a lot of internet attention, so some people post stuff about the car that is no better than gossip, and is not helpful.
    By the way, if you ever find yourself the victim of the infamous locked steering column, some violent shaking of the wheel will sometimes allow the motor to retract the lock pin, and then you can fix the issues once you get home. the computer only messes with this security during the start cycle , so it is safe to run otherwise.

    I've had my 02 C5 Z for 7-8 years, so that means I have no knowledge about recalls. Did GM recall C5's for the column lock issue? If they did, I assume i could get any Chevy dealer to look up my VIN and see about this.

      Beezy_Builds i only ask because i have recent, first hand experience (lesson learned) of driving aggressively and shredding a belt because i didnt take care of all the maintenance issues first. wasnt a c5z (‘06 mini cooper s with 120k) but still relevant for higher mileage cars, in general. Aye bro, really enjoyed the video, i should be getting my c5z in a year or so. Maybe make a vlog on, why you’re in Germany, car ownership (import) in Germany, being black in Germany etc.
