  • This is how I do it.
    1- Lexan body shell painted on the outside
    First video of a serie.
    It's only ambition is to show people how I build my rc's.
    There are so many different ways to do it.
    It works fine for me thus I hope it could help someone out there :). Just do it… there is no try.
    In further videos I plan to show: weathering, fake rust, brazing…
    If there are subjects you'd like to see in videos please let me know and leave a comment hereunder.

    this is cool and even if using this technique on a "basher" I think it works out -- the paint on the outside may come of and reveal silver; and if you paint over the patch it still gets an authentic "painted over the patch in my garage myself" look! came here via your datsun rally video, thanks.

    could you add a clear coat at the end to make it shiny? im doing a body from the outside

    • @fullspeeddesign
      @fullspeeddesign  2 роки тому +1

      If I'm right Tamiya doesn't have shiny clear coat (in the PS range). It should work but if you mix color brands be careful they might not be so compatible. Make a test on a lexan bit aside, make sure to let paint cure before applying other layer.

  • @smartje268
    @smartje268 2 роки тому +1

    Do you always need to use PS spraycans on the outside ? Or is it okay to paint the first layer with PS paint , and then you can use other types of paint ? Great video !!!

    • @fullspeeddesign
      @fullspeeddesign  2 роки тому +1

      When I was young … I painted my bashers on the inside for paint longevity reasons :-). Now that I ride slow things I paint them on the outside, it matches the used paint appearance I look for. I heard that if your 1st layer is PS paint your following layers can be TS, I wouldn't mix paint brands tho. I'll try that soon for sure! 🙏

      @@fullspeeddesign @fullspeeddesign hello, sir! I'm a beginner and I'm planning to paint my Tamiya and I saw this video of yours. It took me out from my anxiety of painting outside. I'll be painting my kit on my rest day 😁
      It's been years since this video was uploaded. It's really a great help!
      Oh wait, Have you tried spraying ps paint on the 1st layer and TS on the 2nd layer?

  • @MarcRCAddict

    Mate you have some crazy painting stills, real talent I'm watching ALL your videos now.. What masking tape do you use because your lines are perfect with no leaking..

    • @fullspeeddesign
      @fullspeeddesign  5 років тому

      Thank you Marc, I use the Tesa blue masking tape (Tamiya's is greater but defenitely too expensive) and a sharp blade to cut it. It's important before painting to remove air and bubbles where you plan to cut the tape, I do that with an old empty pen, push gently. After painting let it dry but not too long, for me it's fine after a good hour.

    Another tip is that I use the paint protection film itself as a mask. I recently got a Proline F150 Raptor shell for a Traxxas Slash and was sad to find out was no decals included for the mud splatter graphics on the rear quarters. So got my Sharpie pen and a sharp craft knife and set about drawing my own did this with truck bed window rubbers and ford lettering on the grill. Looked like a prepainted shell.Got some vids of i on my channel. Check it out love to know what a guy of you skill thinks

    • @fullspeeddesign
      @fullspeeddesign  10 років тому

      Good tip indeed, I used it sometimes too. Didn't use it for this 2 tones job because I had to work with multiple masks and I wanted to be sure the paint would grip firmly on the lexan. Checked your channel, keep up the good work… RC rules!

    nice work on the blazer, but I must say I do find it interesting that you warn us about sharp objects, but fail to use one of the most important safety tools while spraying paint some form of respirator. I sprayed paint in my youth bycycles, later motorcycles, and always thought na I dont need a respirator. I would use nothing or just a bandanna. well now years later. I have neurological problems they are sure came from that spraying without a respirator. take some advice buy or borrow one. just advise from a fellow old spray painter. carry on guys...

      @@fullspeeddesign The other thing I highly recommend is a Rustoleum Comfort Grip spray trigger. It makes painting much easier and the paint flows better because you can put more even pressure on the nozzle without wearing out your finger.

    • @fullspeeddesign
