I LOVE that the adaptation kept in that Jeff ate his leg not like in the anime that he lost it through an anchor. Shows that they really care about the original source material
The Baratie episodes are hands down my favorite parts of the season. I love the atmosphere. It’s so much fun and Sanji and Zeff are probably my favorite characters so far.
Wholeheartedly agree. Baratie episodes are my favorites, too. No other time were onion-ninjas near me throughout the whole season except for episode 6.
its weird that fans hated the actor when the casts were announced then after watching it they went all 180 and now a lot of them are fangirls/boys now. he is a good actor and hopefully we will see more him in the future be it in different works. and i love that they somewhat included the story of nolan the liar.
They actually built all the ships from scratch. Imagine the size of that Baratie ship. Huge. Probably the most expensive ship in the series. Well, there's also Garp's bulldog ship which was built as well. That one wasn't cheap either. It's cool they took the time and effort to build all these ships.
I got, that they build the Going Merry but the Baratie as well? I just assumed it's CGI because of it's size. They should use it as a legit One Piece themed floating restaurant :D
@Geffi01 Some ships were probably CGI, but Going Merry, Garp's ship, and the Baratie were definitely built from scratch. Look up behind the scenes clips. It's wild the effort the production crew put into building this world.
@@ryansmith8102 It was build, but not from scratch. The south african studio that they used to film is one specialized in water and ship scenes, they have tanks of water and some prebuilt ships that the production used to add Merry's figurehead and details. They did the same with the others ships and the Baratie was build just the outside and the fishmouth drinkbar. The interior was constructed elsewhere.
It would be nice if they convert the built Baratie into an actual restaurant, museum, theme park or fan shrine, once it's already done being used by the OPLA shoots, because it's really good.
Sanji is probably the one of the crew that deviates quite a bit from the source material especially in terms of his flirting but I think its for the better... in the anime it came off as borderline sexual harassment more than anything but here its toned down and done very tastefully which I appreciate... and I mean Taz is just sexy straight up so I dont have any complaints
Not at Baratie, Oda went the perv route much later. At Baratie he normally flirted with Fullbody's partner and made that cheesy love declaration with the rose to Nami. 22:43 That is correct, Taz Skylar even took kick-boxing lessons to get really good at doing stunts. The entire cast brought their A-game for this series.
Loved this reaction, V! Not only is Mihawk "anime as heck", but the fight between him and Zoro is one of the most faithfully adapted that I've ever seen. It matches the scenes from the comic practically panel for panel, and successfully expresses just how much stronger Luffy and his friends will have to become simply to survive on the Grand Line. And please don't apologize for your emotions, especially not while watching Oda-sensei's magnum opus. The story that he's created is designed to make us feel all the feelings, and there's soooooo much more story to come. Be prepared to laugh, cheer and cry -- sometimes all in the same episode. I know that I have.
FYI - Mihawk’s sword isn’t just another sword. It’s actually one of only 12 Supreme Grade blades in the world. Most swords in One Piece are just swords. But, there’s a 4-tier ranking system of high caliber swords in One Piece. We don’t know how many are in the 4th tier. But, their are fewer than 100 in the top 3. Mihawk’s sword, Yoru, is in the very top tier. Zoro/Kuina’s Wado Ichimonji is in the next tier, Great Blades. There are only 21 in this tier. Any sword that’s not one of the swords in the four “meito grades” is just a sword.
I'm happy to see these episodes resonated with you so strongly! Sanji is probably my favorite Strawhat and has one of my favorite backstories among the crew. I absolutely love his relationship with Zeff and how much they really care about each other even though they have a funny way of showing it 😆 Your memory serves you well, Sanji is ABSOLUTELY a much bigger flirt in the source material and honestly the fact that they toned it down a little for the live action is a choice I liked bc even though he's my favorite that part of his character can get a little old
I'd say Luffy is way more blunt in the original, and while he's always inspirational and carefree they made the live action one more "heroic" in that sense. We see him grow into this, but the live action doesn't have as much time so they captured the essence of Luffy as a whole instead. Zoro and Nami are more talkative in the original, and shockingly Usopp is actually more capable, he's just scared often (a trait he shares with Nami, non-coincidentally because they're both normal people without training or powers). Sanji is basically the same, but he's very extra when it comes to women in the original. Basically they did a great job on both capturing the soul of the characters/stories, and making everything realistic since exaggerated features are a big characteristic of animations/cartoons.
I love how they did it, but Luffy being a "heroic" character is not the best choice considering he again and again says he doesn't want to be anyones hero.
@@MrProthall You can say him having to deny being someone's hero confirms he's a heroic character. Sanji is also a lot more hotheaded in the manga/anime. The moment those dudes threw the food on the floor manga Sanji would have kicked the shit out of them, not offered them wine lol Love Taz as Sanji btw, he did amazing, i just hope they'll keep more of the original "angry" energy going on😄 About Luffy, yeah he is definitely more blunt in the original, i've seen multiple comments from people who started the anime after the show and were shocked about how much of an "asshole" he is there (their words not mine) lmao

Sanji's flirting is way less over the top in the LA. In general the LA files down some of the rougher edges of the manga/anime but almost always in a good way. I eill say manga Sanji isn't exactly a creep or anything, but his flirting gets pretty obnoxious, especially the 100th time. In one of the animated movies he actually gives up on trying to court Nami (a real holy shit moment) but of course the status que is restored by the end.
Nami is the holder of the braincells on the crew. You pretty much nailed it: while on the ship Nami may as well be the actual captain in almost all ways except deciding in general the direction of the ship.
Glad to see you're enjoying the One Piece Live Action! Mihawk is one of One Piece's top tier characters and this episode gives you a small sample of what they can do.
I have been a One Piece fan for almost 20 years now. I loved the live action and it's so cool to see people enjoying it so much. Especially people who never followed One Piece or know very little about it.
2:06 This is basically how it canonically and will continue to be. While at sea, Nami is basically the acting captain. Luffy might decide where they're going, but Nami decides what everyone does until they get there The strawhats have three vice captains for different situations and one of them is Nami
32:56 A splash? Yes. In the anime/manga, fishmen had the ability to take water and fling it at dangerous speeds against their enemies. Luffy getting flipped up and over from the splash was meant to depict just how fast they can basically throw water at you.
The characters are definitely well adapted in my opinion. Small traits are changed but they are all in ways that fit live action storytelling better. Personalities are slightly less exaggerated and comical, but the core of who the characters are and their emotional layers are well preserved.
They toned down Sanji’s worst traits in the LA. In the anime and manga, Sanji was a raging pervert - the kind to get fire-hose nosebleeds at the sight of any remotely attractive woman (the nosebleeds even become a plot point in a later arc, where he nearly dies from hemorrhaging and has to be hospitalized for most of the arc.) In the LA, he has a flirtatious side and is much more suave. I vastly prefer his characterization here.
The nosebleed comes a LOT later, Sanji was a simp when introduced not a perv. At Baratie the most he did was a cheesy love declaration with a rose to Nami and normally flirted with Fullbody's gf. I love that they are going to keep him as a flirt going on, but it's sad how many seem to forget how Sanji was originally, Oda worsened his gag a lot later.
Hi VKunia! I'm One Pieece fan since 2006, so I can answer that without spo (don't worry lol). And yes the actors and actress are making a wonderful job. The anime (and manga) characters are a bit more "exagerated" considering behaviour and manners. Besides the graphic work to put "funny" faces in anime are current... So you can imagine how difficult is to change that without getting silly and even mantaining some "goofiness", some "wackyness" (lol) to sustain the original charm of these characters.
I just like the little things, like everyone seeing a fuzzy light in the distance, but Usopp can clearly see the letters xD Man, I hope usopp gets more time to shine in S2 at least uvu Also, I really love the crew interactions, I know there's no much time with only 8 episodes, but I we need more trivial interactions between them in the future.
enjoying your reaction to this series. i had to go back an rewatch the anime. so much fun and so much influence from Dragon Ball. they truly did a great job bringing this to life through live action. thankful Oda is part of the production.
Girl, don't worry about your initial pronunciation. You just read the word like it would be pronounced in english, which has it's vowels sounding differently than other languages like japanese. It's not wrong in itself, it's basically like an accent if you think about it
When I watch reactions I always notice something new that is a tender touch to detail. Sanji's facial scratch as a boy after the shipwreck is the same swirl shape as his eyebrow design in the manga/anime. And the story of Noland the Liar is VERY IMPORTANT.
Loved your reaction. Highly recommend the anime, the people are portrayed so well in the live action but the anime is able to delve much deeper into all of them but be prepared for more crying! The anime had me in tears a LOT (you really start to fall in love with all the players) and all the parts that made you cry in the live action were so beautifully done. Keep up the amazing work! x
Mihawk is the most broken character ive seen on anime... and the most lovable, they will go in the background at some point and still make no sense, Zoro improve a lot since this fight
Nami is actually the de facto captain. Shes in charge of the money of the crew meaning she was the one giving others pocket money, shes the only one who has navigating skills so basically while you're on the ship and its something related to navigation whatever she says goes. Also she cooked for everyone before sanji joined but since the meals were charged for from their pocket money luffy and usopp were especially happy when sanji joined
"Of course he named it", actually, all great swords in One Piece have names, and they're usually named by the blacksmith that made them. Just like Zoro's sword (the one that belonged Kuina) is named Wade Ichimonji.
32:51 Actually splash sea water over a devil fruit user is the best attack. When I saw that I thought he was superclever and experienced fighting them. 😅
My guess is she either forgot but most likely was talking during the scene where the tell us that water takes away his powers as is often the case with people who react to shows and movies.
Yeah but he has to be submerged, rain won't weaken him, nor will a splash. The more he is submerged, the weaker he gets. If he is fully under, he shouldn't even be able to move. Seems like the live action made that detail a little different, but I enjoy the live action for what it is.
About the adaptation: It's the best adaptation of an anime/manga there is! It's very very close and the emotions are almost as similar to the anime. In the anime some scenes are way more detailed or different (for example orange town (the buggy arc)) but that is because of the short amout of time the netflix series has. I'd say the anime is still a bit more goofy in the beginning than the live action series, but it has it's own charm. If you finish the series and would like to know how the story goes on, I'd love to see your anime reactions on your Vkunime channel ^^
A HUGE plot hole is that after being at Buggy's circus, Nami was fixing the hat, did she really not see the ear? Because it is IMPOSSIBLE that she knew that Buggy was in deals with Arlong to find Luffy, since she was the one looking for the map.
Apparently the author of One Piece said Luffy's actor was just like the character he wrote. And I looked into what he acted in and he hasn't really been in much which I think is crazy because I think he's such a good actor.
The difference between Luffy's idea of a pirate and his grandfather's idea (not to mention everyone else's) is Luffy's idea or interpretation is that being a pirate is "adventure and freedom," not looting and pillaging. The difference between Luffy's idea of a pirate and his grandfather's idea (not to mention everyone else's) is Luffy's idea or interpretation is that being a pirate is "adventure and freedom," not looting and pillaging. Luffy can't swim because seawater is his "kryptonite" and keeps him from using his powers while he's wet.
its more spot on in terms of characters and backstory's than the anime is, its closer to the manga the anime changed a good amount cause in Oda the creators words the anime was made for children and thats why he was okay with the changes and censorship but it took him sitting in a McDonalds and seeing kids watch it (cause they play children's anime in japan in places like that) then he realised its a version of one piece they could enjoy, the manga is the story how he truly wants it also the pacing in the anime is some of the worst in all of anime takes forever to do stuff that is just 3 panels in the manga
Sanji is a flirt/perv before the halfway point, but he's got character. Right after the halfway point he gets really bad, but he certainly improves later in the series.
*I’m going to keep this spoiler free* One Piece has a bunch of well written characters with deep backstories. Not everything is black and white. Each character is more of a multicolored tapestry woven with multiple colors and intricate designs. Each character has a reason for their actions. Those reasons we often don’t find out until later on in the story. So my advice is to pay attention, and maybe take notes. A ton of OP reactions take notes because of how big and overarching the story is. That being said, I do enjoy your reactions. It’s cool to see people go in blind, and voice their own theories and opinions. Keep it up! 👍
@@skye2792 I'm just speculating. I haven't seen her upload a Breaking Bad video since the last season we watched. She used to release a BB video every other release. She broke the cadence so I'm assuming she's just giving a little time in between.
29:13 This moment makes me think Nami is redeamable, she's desperate for Luffy to leave rather than confront 'ol Saw-nose. Nami also waited till she needed to give Luffy a chance to survive before stepping forward with the Map (though I'd hazard she expected that outcome. Without the scene I linked, I would think Luffy's insistance at the end here that they go get her would seem misguided, but I think we all know different.
33:41 If he was doing it to stop himself from sinking (clothes keep you warm even when you're wet but the heavier ones can pull you down or cause you to use more of your energy because you're carrying your weight and the weight of heavy wet clothes) he'd have done better to take his shoes off.
lol people saying Ba-Ra-Tea-Ay differently but when the shows correct them for how to pronounce certain character or place its nice to know we all suffer pronouncing other words when its not our own mother tongue...

Also, I really love the crew interactions, I know there's no much time with only 8 episodes, but I we need more trivial interactions between them in the future.
enjoying your reaction to this series. i had to go back an rewatch the anime. so much fun and so much influence from Dragon Ball. they truly did a great job bringing this to life through live action. thankful Oda is part of the production.

How does one lose 50 ships and 5000 men, you ask? Easy: Mihawk. This guy was part of *that* armada.
Girl, don't worry about your initial pronunciation. You just read the word like it would be pronounced in english, which has it's vowels sounding differently than other languages like japanese.
It's not wrong in itself, it's basically like an accent if you think about it
Did anyone else notice when Nami was reading the book about Nolan the liar?
"They had a full meal, they werent worried about the whole payment thing?"
They're pirates Kunia🤨
When I watch reactions I always notice something new that is a tender touch to detail. Sanji's facial scratch as a boy after the shipwreck is the same swirl shape as his eyebrow design in the manga/anime. And the story of Noland the Liar is VERY IMPORTANT.
Am I the only one that noticed the Scuba divers ready to give Lufis actor air? (not shown here) Love this series!
29:44 "There's something a little fishy" - What a coincidence that those are fishmen xD
mihawks introduction was so fire, my favorite character in S1
Great job.
Fun fact fish skin is actually a very effective bandage and is still used, primarily for burn victims.
Sanji's goodbye to Zef in anime was more emotional I mean i cried a lot on that scene and ofc nami's in anime TT
THANK YOU for understanding the Sanji thirst. Man is finely cut. chiseled.
Fun fact V: Sanji doesn't use his fists when he fights, as he doesn't want to ruin a chefs most precious tool
"There is something fishy about them." About the fishmen made my day 😂
The spirit of the anime is totally there, the actors do a fine job of portraying the spirit of the character while grounding them in our reality.
Nami is actually the de facto captain. Shes in charge of the money of the crew meaning she was the one giving others pocket money, shes the only one who has navigating skills so basically while you're on the ship and its something related to navigation whatever she says goes. Also she cooked for everyone before sanji joined but since the meals were charged for from their pocket money luffy and usopp were especially happy when sanji joined
namis more of a quartermaster + navigator if anything
Those things don't make u captain...but just part of crew
I loved Sanji and the 2 episodes at Baratie are phenomenal. One Piece is incredible, make us laugh, cry and be amazed in the same episode.
I like how he says "no killshots" and then throws a cannonball directly at his grandson.
Seawater takes Luffy's powers, so splashing with water put him at a disadvantage
Yeah but he has to be submerged, rain won't weaken him, nor will a splash. The more he is submerged, the weaker he gets. If he is fully under, he shouldn't even be able to move. Seems like the live action made that detail a little different, but I enjoy the live action for what it is.
1000 chapters later and coby is a badass. Even our man Helmeppo isnt totally useless
They did a amazing job on Chef Zeff.
I recommend Ghostbusters 1&2&Afterlife & Robocop.
Why not Ghostbusters 3 😂
So glad you're enjoying this so much!
I love Sanji he my favorite character
Not sure you remember from previous, but devil fruit users can't swim in the ocean. In fact sea water saps their energy until they can barely move.
A HUGE plot hole is that after being at Buggy's circus, Nami was fixing the hat, did she really not see the ear? Because it is IMPOSSIBLE that she knew that Buggy was in deals with Arlong to find Luffy, since she was the one looking for the map.
I love the anime so much. I have seen this crew in my dreams multiple times and i was their nakama
Apparently the author of One Piece said Luffy's actor was just like the character he wrote. And I looked into what he acted in and he hasn't really been in much which I think is crazy because I think he's such a good actor.
"tell us the story!!"
Little did she know...... it's gonna fck her emotions up
The show doesn't really explain the fact that devil fruit eaters' weakness is sea water which is ironic being a show about pirates.
"He splashed him" it was sea water. And sea water is the weakness of a devil fruit user.
"So the chef DOES have a heart!" ...Nah...not red leg Zeff. Couldn't be.
You didnt use waterproof mascara when watching One Piece?
- One Piece: "So you have chosen face paint."
13:10 oh darling, you’ve still yet to see the corruption.

This is becoming the best ensemble cast since Firefly
its more spot on in terms of characters and backstory's than the anime is, its closer to the manga the anime changed a good amount cause in Oda the creators words the anime was made for children and thats why he was okay with the changes and censorship but it took him sitting in a McDonalds and seeing kids watch it (cause they play children's anime in japan in places like that) then he realised its a version of one piece they could enjoy, the manga is the story how he truly wants it also the pacing in the anime is some of the worst in all of anime takes forever to do stuff that is just 3 panels in the manga
When the shark man splashed Luffy with Seawater, he drained Luffy of his powers. Sea water is his weakness.
U gotta keep in mind being a pirate in their world is like being in an actual gang member in ours. No parent would be OK with that.
Sanji is a flirt/perv before the halfway point, but he's got character. Right after the halfway point he gets really bad, but he certainly improves later in the series.
*I’m going to keep this spoiler free*
One Piece has a bunch of well written characters with deep backstories.
Keep it up! 👍
FUN FACT: The sword Zoro holds in his mouth belongs to Shimotsuki Kuina, the young girl who was his childhood friend.
Zeff s Story is the Mildest..of FEELS Crushers you'll encounter in this show
Love your channel V. so happy to watch things with you. hoping to see some more breaking bad at some point but I totally understand the break.
Why is she taking a break?
Sanji definitely comes off as more of a horny brained creep than an actual charmer, which is honestly a good change for the live action version.
Trust me when Nami says Left Zoro understands it and turn the ship to the right.
Vkunia is always crying. I want to give you my hug 😘
Hey, you fire a pistol and declare you're part of the fight, you better believe I'm kicking your false leg out.
lol people saying Ba-Ra-Tea-Ay differently but when the shows correct them for how to pronounce certain character or place its nice to know we all suffer pronouncing other words when its not our own mother tongue...
I once saw Nami described as the lone, overworked braincell of the crew.
34:00 to borrow a gag from CinemaWins:
"Taz Skylar's workout routine."
*ding*
"Someone has a superiority complex" it's a bit clearer in the manga (although never made explicit) but it's more of an inferiority complex xD
Great video & reaction. Thanks for the vid.
There's gonna have to make a thematic park of one piece, imagine eating at the baratie i'll love it
In all fairness, my introduction to OP was the manga, so when I got to this arc, I thought Baratie was pronounced Ba-ra-tee.
"Don't talk to your boss that way"
You've clearly never worked in a kitchen
live action sanji is less horny than og sanji that overshadows his important qualities sometimes.
27:03 You said "She is a closed book" while she was holding an open book in her hand lol.
29:43 .. yep . Arrlong .. he's a little fishy xD
