Just some more updated info. GAC 100 is no longer recommended as a size from Golden, the manufacturer, for oil painting. I personally would not even recommend PVA as mostly bad experiences with it. I have tried them all. RSG is dependable and works. It is not perfect, as nothing is. Nothing else works like it.

Hi Ann, thanks for your comment and info. I’ve been hearing similar things regarding GAC100 that Golden apparently made a statement to use one of their gloss mediums instead of GAC100 as an oil penetration protection/size coat for organic substrates. Obviously it’s difficult to compare RSG given how much time we’ve had to watch its effects with climate, consistency, time, UV exposure etc vs polymer based mediums. I have yet to try out just a RSG size. Hoping to get to that this year. Can you please share your source so I can link it in the text of the video as an update? I’ve found a few articles that discuss GAC100 and GAC400 as size alternatives but like anything time will tell us what the best materials are to use. Thanks again for your comment!

@@hacuna45 You can find the article from Golden under their Justpaint blog. Sorry I do not have the link handy. I have also seen a video by them on youtube on this, is about two years old. I highly recommend giving RSG a try. The RSG is not difficult to prepare. And it has so many superior benefits compared to synthetics. The hype over being hydroscopic is over blown to help sell synthetics. All are sensitive to moisture. But I believe RSG handles moisture better.
