Why conservation education matters | Charlotte Smith | TEDxWarrington

What would it be like if our education system was centred around empowering young people as conservationists? Charlotte Smith asks us to consider the purpose of education and the role that schools could play in helping solve the climate and ecological crises.
Sharing experience from her work as Director of Conservation Education at Chester Zoo and from years collaborating with school leaders across the UK, Charlotte explores the difference schools and young people can make when they centre their curriculum around real world conservation issues, and how we can support young people to be conservation changemakers.

She has spent 20 years leading environmental and social justice education programmes in cultural organisations. She believes passionately in the role of well-planned education interventions in empowering people to fulfil their potential and shape the world for the better. Whether working on local grass root initiatives or large international campaigns, Charlotte enjoys collaborating with people, sharing ideas and building capacity in others.
For the last five years she has been working with talented colleagues, pedagogical experts and schools across the North West, to empower young people to take action for wildlife as part of their school based education.
