An amazing two day bus journey from Manali to Leh | Getting to Leh-Ladakh (N. India Ep 10)

- Getting from Manali to Leh by public HRTC bus is not for the faint of heart. It takes two days, organising your own accommodation in Keylong on the way. It is actually two completely separate bus tickets as well, requiring you to purchase your ticket for day two in Keylong the night before a VERY early start (like 5am departure!). The first bus from Manali to Keylong takes about 6 hours, the second from Keylong to Leh is over 12.
Was it worth it? 1000% yes. The road up to the Rohtang Pass from Manali is amazing, very windy and very busy with day tourists. Once over the pass however the whole trip becomes amazingly quiet, and the scenery is incredible. Around every corner was another incredible view of the Himalayas, and the geography of the area changed significantly throughout the trip so it was impossible to get bored.
Day two's bus journey ascended through a number of passes, the highest being over 5300m, and I can assure you at this altitude we were really feeling the thin air. It eventually descends into the famous Indus Valley and then up in to Leh at 3500m.
This is without a doubt the most amazing bus journey we have ever done, what a way to get to Leh!

Al, from New Zealand and Kel from Australia met through work in 2010 and have been together ever since. Always infected by the travel bug they finally decided to head off on an adventure and started with Vietnam and Laos before heading to Sri Lanka, India, then Cambodia and Indonesia. Their mission is to explore as many off the beaten track places as possible through a slow travel philosophy on a tight budget.

Passport checking is only to record that you have guys travelled here and any misfortune happens they can track you after that post instead of searching here and there and wasting crucial time.
Hope you enjoyed India..this was a very good and cheerful vlog.
We loved our time in India. Thanks for watching.
Good info, cheers. Was hoping to do that on motor bike this year but will have to wait! Leh is stunning, cant wait to get back.

Best thing about this bus is that it avoids traveling during night so that you don't miss the stunning scenery.

Because of high passes and state border checkpoint you need to show your passport for your security , if anything happens so they can easily find you ..were you supposed to be search and rescue...

I took the same bus till rohtang pass and it was some experience . I can only imagine the experience you had till leh.

Roads were Rough due to Landslides... Heavy rocks slids from heights and drop directly on the road which causes big holes on the road... beautiful video And Belated Happy Birthday Kel Ji 🙏🎊🎊🎂🎂🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Why i found this beautiful video at this lockdown situation 😍❤️

Wow..different experience..entertainment with economy...cheer-up
Amazing work from both of you...enjoyed your journey 👍🏻
Honestly speaking, I love this vlog. I used to travel by buses to remote places outside of state even. I have visited Manali only once, but that was with friends and we did it in a tourist bus. I like transport buses to travel. Idk how many times I've seen this particular one. It makes me jealous and happy at the same time. Honestly wishing you'll get more subscribers and I don't care even if you chose India for views' sake like others do. Hope you enjoyed the trip. And stay safe. God bless!
What a courage sitting in last seat of hrtc ❤️love from 🇮🇳

Glad you guys enjoyed the trip it's rrally an experience
i live in himachal pradesh ..but never been visited lahaul &spiti.i am happy that you had a good experience !
The good part of this journey is the scenery. The bad part is the back breaking road journey into Leh for 2 days in some of the worst roads on earth lol.
I’d probably take the easy way out and take the bus back to Chandigarh and take the 1 hr flight 😀. The journey is quite arduous and painful despite the scenery with total unpredictable nature of the state of roads which close on a whim.
Go back to India in a few years and there is supposed to be train route under construction that is supposed to open in 2022 and set a record for the highest altitude train station.
Thanks Sam. We will spoil the surprise. Within 48hrs of arriving in Leh we agreed to fly back to Delhi. It worked really well with picking up our itinerary again in Rajasthan. Once was enough, amazing bus ride or not!
Kel Bolt Yeah once is an adventure, twice is madness LOL The road is very rough and the buses are not that great. It’s also a very unpredictable road.with random closures due to landslides.
You can do a day trip to Rohtang pass from Manali on a car and that is good enough to enjoy the Himalayan scenery. I can’t stomach the two day bus ride up there but you guys braved it successfully lol
You can fly to Leh from Chandigarh or Delhi which is an hr to hr 45 min. It’s probably more reliable than the roads and easy too.
You just spent 2 days in Leh? It has enough to spend a few days there.
The other risk with the road trip is getting altitude sickness on the way and you are in the middle of nowhere. You fly in and rest up the whole day and get acclimatized to the altitude and you are good for few days of exploring Leh.
Reasons r many for bumpy roads... how many resources for help or stay did u saw in video... there r causeways n glacier points.. obviously these will damage the patches...
BRO is working all round d clock ... guys just cheer for them..👍
Wow.... It's really great experience...... Everyone must go ladakh...
Love from India. We hope you will come back again to India. 👍👍
Welcome to india guys Both of you lovely couple love you so much guys
Sweet! Need to do this one comming mid sept. .will remember to carry my Fairydown n kathmandhu gear for chilly weather. Hopefully there will be great local game cuisine ( goat, duck, mountain Trout and other mountain fishes, smoked meats to sample along the way as well, right?
Lovely, this is one trip, which is different everytime one goes on it.
Self drove the same trip in July 2019.
Spent 2 weeks driving to different destinations in the Leh and North of it. Stayed at camp sites in some.
Enjoy yourselves and hope to keep seeing more from around the world.

19:07 what is the titile of the song and from which album, singer etc. Great music and a best video I watched on bus ride to Rohtang pass.
There are massive construction projects going on in the Himalayas which would considerably reduce this time of journey to Leh..
Tunnel of 8 km already completed. In next year its fully operational
