My new album “Two Roses” is out now : avishaicohen.bfan.link/two-roses For many years I had thought of writing some of my existing music and new compositions for a full orchestra. Though it seemed more like a fantasy for a while, at a certain point it felt like the right time. So I decided to contact some good orchestrators and begin the journey. Diving into the assignment getting deeper and deeper into it and within a few years this incredible body of work was ready to be performed and recorded. As soon as we finished recording, it was clear something special had been achieved and now I can’t wait for more. Playing and singing with an orchestra is pure magic. I’m feeling very fortunate for this incredible opportunity and wish to thank everyone who is a part of it. Enjoy, Avishai
Happy to finally announce the release of my new album "Two Roses", out on April 16th 2021. Pre-order it from today and listen to "Arab Medley" - already available on all platforms. Preorder it here : avishaicohen.bfan.link/two-roses "Avishai Cohen describes his new orchestra album “Two Roses" as a "a once in a lifetime project”. Combining his core trio - Mark Guiliana (d), Elchin Shirinov (p) - with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Alexander Hanson, Cohen offers a very cinematic recording including his original Jazz and Classical compositions tinted with Mediterranean Folklore influences. The title “Two Roses” serves as a metaphor for the album’s adept fusion of jazz, and the symphonic world. Cohen’s music is an intricate tapestry of global and historical influence. A beautiful antique pink and dark green double vinyl edition of “Two Roses” features 2 exclusive bonus tracks ("Seven Seas" & "Overture Noam, Op. 1") in addition to the 12 songs included on the digital and CD album versions. Recorded by Lars Nilsson (Nilento Studio)"
The piece itself is of course tremendous. It is exceptionally good and has become one of my favorite Avishai pieces in the last year … I was thrilled to know that Avishai was making a studio recording of it, and I've been looking forward to listening to it (thus far we only had the live performances)… My apprehension began when I saw the lineup… Don’t get me wrong, Mark Guiliana is an awesome drummer (so is Noam David, by the way, who does a great job playing the drums on this piece on the Ukraine concert)… BUT to do a studio version (where presumably you’d be going for the most detail-oriented and meticulous, most authentic and real, most inspired and generally speaking - most outstanding recording) and then settle for an awesome drummer playing a standard drum-kit, when you’ve already played this piece with a phenomenon like Itamar Doari (who, with all due respect, is on a level of his own) in which he played the darbuka and other authentic percussions, which you know has elevated Arab Medley to a series of other dimensions… well, that is incomprehensible…. Same applies to having Elchin Shirinov instead of Omri Mor. With all due respect to this excellent Azerbaijani pianist, Omri’s deep, intense connection to the genre, to this particular piece, to Avishai’s particular vision, to the live and vibrant interconnection between East and West - not to mention that the guy is a freaking virtuoso - all these things - have made it so that Omri’s contribution to Arab Medley is indispensable. Why on earth would you record your studio version without him? In short, this version is okay. But what a waste…
I listened to both versions repeatedly. They're both amazing. The Paris Philharmonic rendition is pure fire though!! Much due to the musicians you mention. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/Bk5Z5cCTHJI/v-deo.html
Wow! Looking forward to buy your CD and Vynil ! Best musicians, best trio : Avishai, Elchin and Mark! I can hear Azerbaijani motifs by the amazing pianist Elchin Shirinov. This tune is 🔥
Indeed Elchin adds some beautiful Azerbaijani touches. But since this is a medley of Arabic songs by Samira Tawfiq (a Lebanese musician who sang in the Jordanian-Bedouin dialect and musical style) - then traditional Arabic motifs work better, especially when playing with a western symphonic orchestra. Check out this other version, which Avishai played live with a symphonic orchestra in Paris and pianist Omri Mor, who is an expert in Classical Arabic music. I think you'll notice the difference (and by the way, Elchin is a great pianist, just not that familiar with Levantine Arabic traditions) ua-cam.com/video/Bk5Z5cCTHJI/v-deo.html
Wow, what a breath of life, full of joy... 🥰 That is just perfect what the world needs now 🙏Can't wait to hear the album, thank you sooo much Avishai for this amazing music in full harmony with the other musicians, thank you all for your music 🎶🎵 with lots of love ❤️
So beautiful Maestro Cohen! I've always loved the elements of classical music and harmony in your music, now with orchestra seems like such a natural progression. Congratulations, can't wait to hear the entire album!!
I enjoyed Gtb concert and must admit that I am a bit disappointed as it was told the concert will be recorded for the album. I apologize if I got it wrong. Love the album, though.
actually Avishai's song combines affinities in his song from both Samira Tawfik and Oum Kalthoum.. I could not find any close song from them though. Nevertheless, you might be interested in listening to music from Aynur Dogan also, since she also combines affinities from Samira (eg: Samira song: Asmar - Anyur song: Yar Meleke where the live performance is much better)
@@arielleHT Nope. It is absolutely not new, and Avishai did not compose this piece. It is based on songs by the Lebanese singer Samira Tawfiq, of whom Avishai is a fan. He took her songs, put them together in a Medley and of course arranged the piece for Jazz Trio and Symphonic Orchestra.
