From our huge collection of free training vids. Let us show you how to ride dirt bikes using enduro techniques and dirt bike techniques. Learning to jump a dirt bike involves both minimizing and maximizing air time depending on the terrain and obstacles. Cross training involves trials and enduro techniques for jumping dirt bikes to get your enduro skills to the next level. A huge thanks to Australia's 2014 Junior Endurocross champion, Ruben Chadwick, for helping out with this enduro cross training series. So what is cross training? It's just applying trials skills to dirt riding... slowing things down initially we we can be faster, and more importantly, better dirt riders. Slow things down when learning how to ride a dirt bike faster and focus on clutch control, balance and traction. Don't aim for speed straight away or you will have to unlearn bad dirt riding techniques later.

If you've never jumped a dirt bike before, it's definitely something you want to take in small easy steps. It's an easy skill to master, but you can get into a lot of trouble if you bite off more than you can chew. Your body position should be relaxed when doing jumps. What do the world's best extreme enduro riders have in common? Riders like Graham Jarvis, Chris Birch, Jonny Walker and David Knight are all former trials champions who applied cross training techniques to hard enduro and endurocross events, and even right from the start when learning how to ride dirt bikes faster.
WHICH WHEEL SHOULD LAND FIRST?
The growing interest in extreme enduro led to an upsurge in trials riding riding internationally, and many dirt riders are now joining trials clubs to improve their overall technique for basic dirt riding or hard enduro. When learning, you want to either have both wheels landing at the same time, or the rear wheel just before the front. Jumps are fun. They are so much fun that often we subconsciously learn how to get extra lift just for the thrill of it. However, serious dirt skills aim to keep your air time to a minimum. So how do we keep the speed up but the air time to a minimum? This can go a long way to maintaining speed but making sure you aren't launching into orbit.
Throttle control is important too with jumps.
The absolute best way to learn how to ride dirt bike with tips from Taddy Blazusiak, Graham Jarvis and other top enduro riders on how to ride dirt bikes cross training-style - a blend of trials and enduro techniques. The rise of extreme enduro, endurocross and hard enduro events has led to cross training - trials skills applied to dirt riding on enduro bikes. Get into here!
PRELOADING - MAXIMIZING YOUR AIR TIME
Now it's time to do the opposite! There can be times you deliberately want to jump higher or further, if it means you can clear an obstacle, gap or rough terrain after the take off point.

I've had my 250L for a month and knew just where to go for a some jump training.
Great stuff!!! Thanks.
I have the same bike, let me know if she can handle it
Dang looks like that big dude on the yami at 3:13 needs stiffer suspension, looks like he's nearly bottoming out the suspension. Also, needs a FF helmet if he values his face.
+CycleCruza james is a trials rider but just jumped on a neighbour's WR450F for a bit of filming. i agree you wouldn't want to do a face plant at speed with a trials helmet. :(
ayyee CycleCruza
lol was gonna comment the same thing but i see you have already covered it..
Oh hey cycle
CycleCruza good old brain buckets...only thing left in the helmet after yiu crash is your brain the rest is smashed to pieces lol
Landing a jump for the first time is awesome. Once you land you feel so good and more confident.
+ReBl_Callout ooo yeah :)
I did it today for the first time feels so awesome
When i jumped for the first time, i was so happy that i came in my pants 😂😂
@@NLeontje I shat in my pants on my first jump instead of coooming, let down the throttle too soon.
You've got a fabulous sense of humour my friend! I'm actually taking a pause while watching the video so that I can read the "Disclaimer" fully ;)
Me to honey... me to 🤣🤣🤣
I find alot of your cross training videos are helping me alot with trials, your trials training channel is very good aswell :D
+Glynn - iRacing thanks glynn, yes a lot of the stuff is almost a replica of each other although things like full lock turns are harder on the trials bike because they can turn at such ridiculously steep angles :)
I always watch this channel before going riding
makes TOTAL sense! TNT! I'll need about a megaton of it to get my dr up in the air like i'd like it to...
Hahaha those big heavy ass dr's though
***** heavy ass shit it is
Love the instructions at the end. Never changed your tone.....lol.
😁 Thanks aarfdood!
I'm not ready for jumps yet, but can't wait. Thanks for the vid!!
Ohhhh isss itt. Going to try jumping this week
Loving the riding tips keep up the good work lads , my skills are slowly getting better
+rick holster good to hear rick, same for us. sometimes one of us will make a big jump in ability but most of the time it's baby steps.... :)
Enjoying all of these and learning heaps, many thanks
You guys should try Protaper Pillowtops grips, they reduce a lot of vibration and reduce arm pump, and yes they do work I currently own them and love them :D
Ben Fairhall I don’t know about the worst grips around. But I do know they turn to mushy gross shit when used really hard. Mine were sticky and unusable after about a month.
Haha. I love this vid. It has given me some great tips I didn't know. Also love the photos at the end 😂 keep up the good work👍🏼
+Madi Mayne thanks madi, we find it hard to be serious for too long in these vids :)
but what about in motocross.... landing both wheels at the same time can be very painful...like if you overshoot the jump and land flat...
i doubt enduro frames are strong enough to take landings like motocross landings. the suspension is completely different too.
I'm here because I broke my foot trying to do this on my own
+Efren Gonzalez ouch
Same here :)
I broke my throttle wrist on a 2ft homemade ramp
hope u guys get better soon. did my first mx this past weekend and cracked my fuel tank on a simple fall. the jumps were a ton of fun but I only got 5 laps in br the tank broke.
kareem mckelvey yeh.. its annoying, its luke my brother..hes fallen off his bike fast and done no damage than when he was stopping his foot fell into a wombat whole and the bike fell on his hand...snapped the leggement in his thumb
I like the TNT part :-)
Just got some sticks of TNT, now do I put them before or after the take-off ramp? and also, should I put a stick in my exhaust for extra power for the jump? It's a 2m jump? lol
***** rofl two up the pipe for smokers and four (of course) for the four strokes?
CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES No no no, due to the extra weight, I think you'll need about six for a 4stroker.
Also, put them in the middle. This will help your bike to jump even higher.
I learned how to do this with a rocket launcher, trust me it works.
So bace icky your going to blow up your bike
*So basically, you're going to blow up your bike?!
Hay how do you do the whoops on motocross I have no idea what to do with that kind of thing I have crashed so much from it
billy leverton no idea, we don't do motocross techniques at all, just cross training.... trials applied to enduro riding.
started jumping on a 6m bike and then I switched to a trial moto and from that to an enduro with which I now jump
Great video. The tips at the end are especially helpful!
Can't help to think that these videos are shot around the Sunshine Coast area, Glasshouse Mountains / Caloundra forestry ??
Now to figure out a way to legally acquire TNT. :D
Congrats you are now on the list
ur putin. shouldn't be a problem
Marc Tjon Kwan Paw NUKE !! :D
I took off a jump that was way too sharp and big for my level a year ago...
Broke my ankle xD
how do i know how fast to approach a jump? even if i jump little jumps how do i know the speed to try to land right? it looks like there's no way of doing it without crushing many times.
Learned the hard way to jump on a DR 750 Big. Folks at the MX Track told me to not ride there. That held me back quite a bit out of fear. I realized quickly that there were jumps involved as the bike took off after riding up a slope. I did not anticipate that to be honest. Had to go with it and it worked, but none of the huge jumps to clear obstacles or from ramp to ramp. I do not have the balls or resources for that, yet. Thanks for the video, I recognize all of my mistakes now. What do you think about jumping a 200kg bike like the DR Big? Yes, no?
personally i wouldn't want to take the risk as the bike isn't designed for it. if you watch this vid the guys are clearing a 50 foot table top on a DR650 even though we warned them the DR frame is notoriously weak in a few spots and could break. but then evel knievel was jumping harleys.... ua-cam.com/video/tl9soqGCyok/v-deo.html
@@crosstrainingenduro Thanks for the response and video link. These DR 650 jumps are insane. And yeah, they jumped hard tail Harleys back in the 50's. My bike cost 1300 bucks. Not comparable to the other rider's gorgeous light weight grasshoppers at 5-10k. But it is great to know that this thing can get me almost anywhere at least. I' ll keep it low, work on improving my technique and avoid extremes. Thanks for all of your videos.
forgot to mention 125s are best for this.. light weight hit alot of my jumps in mid second gear.. then landed with thw front wheel to high got acared held on and nailed a tree
Keep doing ur videos, theyre awesome keep it bro
Nice, now this will be interesting to practice on the DR's. Excellent video and full of good tips as always! We'll post some footage of our first jumps when we attempt it :)
hehe, i was always worry about the frame breaking when i jump the DR. it's actually not too bad with the suspension done, but frames have been known break near the swingarm. :-(
So drifting and wheelies it is ;)
.k flf cp, gkhgxj.
Nice Vid! I don't know that happens, my jumps always seems to get the front wheel too high, i even felt because of this. I tried to reduce throtle bu my bike always land in rear wheel.. I'll try those tips next weekend!
Oh God, he never made it back to the forum!!!
How do u make one of those tire jump things?
good question... we covered a bit of stuff on making endurocross tracks but not that specifically. ua-cam.com/video/mC-iWo6yDlw/v-deo.html
Thanks mate I am making one!! It means a lot
You need a big tire first of all. From a tractor or any type of big machinery. Then you build dirt against it to make a ramp up to it.
another great video, keep it going.
Hello. I have Yamaha DT 125. Can it deal jumping high without damaging the Swing Arm? DT. Not DTR
i have a friend who has one and it does pretty good with withstanding jumps but I probably wouldn't do too big of jumps.
I am assuming I should use the rear brake when I land back on the ground? I am very new to this type of riding switching from my VFR sport bike to my 1989 Honda Nx125 enduro.
actually i'm not sure about braking adam, the top riders can land and brake immediately but i think the rest of us need to land first, make sure we are all balanced then apply brake.
The leg technique you share at 3:26 is this similar to a seat bounce that the MX SX guys are doing?
I couldn't say, Jacob. I don't follow mx at all.
@@crosstrainingenduro Thank you for your time anyway! I believe it's to preload the suspension for lift.
What you show is more applicable to the trail riding I do. Thanks again.
Awesome channel!!!! I love it!!!!
Full car park warriors . Meeting spot at glasshouse.
i put a bunch of tnt around my table top to practice concentration like the video said. but i think the fuses were too short because they went off before i reached the top of the jump. and now my front rim is destoyed. what am i doing wrong?
+XGC BAD HABIT that's all good, it will just help you get very good at wheelies awful fast :)
Maybe a little chat about the worthiness of your suspension ?
I have trashed the stock suspension on every dual-sport that I have owned.
Shouldn't need a chat, an mx bike and a dual sport are worlds apart when it comes to suspension. Should convert an mx bike to dual sport to retain that.
Otherwise, don't jump as aggressively on dual sport bikes. Saves money and and a lot of body ache, too.
I have just started to ride which bike should i buy to practice these skills ?
already done several vids on this topic, gulzar 😊
ua-cam.com/video/DBTSq8OdWIc/v-deo.html
what is it called when you hit a jump and whip/turn and land at a diffrent angle..? The guy attemps it at 2:17. Minor compared to what i talking about.
Mick Reyling not sure mick as i figure it would be an mx thing? the rider at 2:17 only rides trials bikes and was attempting a flick turn on the WR450F... if he was on his trials bike the flick turn would have taken him at least 90 degrees around.
yes i ride enduro as well. not competion (though id love too) but yes a flick turn describes well. just curious cuz ive been trying to do it and found it fun and challenging. i need a trials bike to learn like you guys suggest.
Wtf Is it normal that the Suspension on Dirt Bikes bottoms out at the take off? At Dirt or Freeride Bikes (the MTB ones) the Suspension should never bottom out
Ok when I last hit a little steep jump I like left my bike and really hurt my knee... Soo how can I avoid flying off the foot pegs lol..
Matthew King actually those are tricky little buggers, i've had my butt way up in the air and feet off the pegs...
Found it! 😄 👍
I'm here to learn how to place TNT in the proper position.
Cool. #MaximizingTheCross
I race and there will be times I'm right behind someone who launches there bike going the same speed I am not trying but I'll try and I'll only get a foot off the ground why is this?
+Harley Bustamante it will probably be because of everything we explained in this vid.... weighting or deweighting the bike. it's actually faster the closer to the ground you stay.
Anybody know where to get some dynamite?
Great vids guys...Im on a KTM 1290 super R...do you see these approaches different than on a lighter bike?
not sure about a 1290 james... used to jump a DR650 the same way though.
CROSS TRAINING ENDURO SKILLS thanks for the reply...I used to get some pretty good air and control on an 06 cr250 and I didnt know what I was doing...id like to try this 1290 on some enduros...thinking about getting a lighter bike to practice some techniques and work up to the 1290 flavor...all that said my intent isnt to be launching the big bike but be able to get it through an enduro thanks ill be watching your vids closely
@@jamesabrams6321 damn man that’s a real big bike for jumping, dr650’s are on the heavier side already imo
Hey may i have advice from you guys my bike a dt200wr an old yamaha bike it weight is about 107kg dry do you think i can jump with this bike thanks i've been watch your videos for so long now i am able to do a powerslide thanks to you but i need advice jumping tis bike its my first bike
The Barbarian sure that would jump okay, the main thing would be not going beyond what the suspension could handle. and obviously just build up to it, plenty of guys get into trouble trying to get big air straight away.
Can we use this tricks on sports bike
No idea. This is an enduro channel.
@@crosstrainingenduro ok
i have some problems to mantein my feet on the pegs when i m in the air. they go up. i try to hold the drz with my knees but i can t. Any idea?
sounds very strange, i'd have to see it in person....
A year too late maybe but might be helpful for someone else, sounds like you are backing off the throttle a bit on the takeoff which is making the front drop - pitching you forward, this would make your feet go up off the pegs. If it’s a short, steep takeoff, you might need more throttle to keep the bike level in the air than you would on a longer or shallower takeoff.
im 15 and about 5 foot 9, and i ride a crf 250r out in the woods, what would be the best enduro 2 stroke bike for me thanks.
+EpicMan878 this won't be much help but.... ua-cam.com/video/1beL18_qz-8/v-deo.html
The DirtyVlogger should've gotten a CRF250X it has more trails gearing and is more of a tank compared to the R.
Every time I do a jump my front wheel always lands first I need some ones advise how to keep that from happening
Honda Bro your going to want to give it more gas in the air, it will raise your front end. Be careful not to overdue it though!
Anthony Maynard thanks I will try that and I will tell i the out come
Honda Bro did you die?
Love your videos!
I read some of the comments and saw that you wrote you have no experience in jumping...so how do you make a video guide on it? haha :)
big motocross jumps that is lol. no problems with the standard ones you'll get in an enduro or the usual dirt riding....
Ok so once I'll sell my Raptor 700 and buy an EXC 125 I'll do use those tips :P
+Nir Hason you'll feel like a much bigger man too
tarded400 riding on a dirt bike instead of a quad? (:
+Nir Hason exactly! :-D
Jumps out fun no doubt about that.
2 strokes were much easier to control throttle
These new 4 strokers just unbelievable power
Do I need to use European or Japanese TNT ? is the type of TNT bike dependent ?
it's more rider dependent. you'll get more bang from the european TNT but it's less reliable. :-)
for a wheelie,do i need softer or tougher shock absorbers? :D
Skugat Endless Piston neither, just a well trained right foot to cover that rear brake lol
i have two same bikes, one have soft suspension, and the other one tough, this one with soft is easy for wheelie, but this with tough shock absorbers it won't wheelie at all..both engines are in good condition, it's old bike Yamaha dt 125 mx
soft suspension may help to bounce the front up, but usually technique and timing is the most important thing by far.
gtreat and funny fish...
3:13 poor Yamaha :(
you forgot a part when you are in mid air squeeze the bike with your legs.
minimize air time. pshhhh... what a gumby
Ryan villapoto does most of his time in the air and he is the fastest badass in the track.. most of the time anyways.
Mx riders don’t always aim for less air time there are instances where the max air time is better
How can you end like that after the boring monotone narrator? Amazing finish! 10/10 would watch again.
ua-cam.com/video/vf7Ls_mZCs4/v-deo.html
lollerblades! 10/10 would comment again :)
why do you sound like you ate dry chicken before this video
that's how i prepare for every video
HA HA HA oom!
I'm getting a dirt bike I want a dual sport Honda and I'm 12
How many here was sitting down when going for a jump? Hahaha.
KareliaRussia not me😂

Most times that ive gone for flying, ive landed on my ass.....
Who is here before 400k clicks?
good tutorial but too much builders bum "expose" for me
just put that in there for the ladies :D
Lol that wr suspension getting taxed..
